    Your hiring experience sounds absolutely insane. I just got hired the other day. All I did was walk in, ask to talk to the floor manager, then she asked if I had time for an interview right then - I said yes, I interviewed, she had me submit my application at the end of it, and walked away with a job in the women’s apparel in less than an hour (it was 45 min tops).
    I had not applied when I walked in, and just wanted to see if they were hiring, and if I liked the environment.
    Also, this was apparently during Nordstrom hiring week - I found that out when I went downstairs for the interview.

      Congrats!!! Sports wear is a good department to be in! If you want to make a career out of it, there are 2 paths I guess, one is to build up a client book and move eventually to personal styling and the other would be to be a department then eventually store manager and so on, depending on how far you want to take it! Just make sure to build relationships with both managers and clients!

    I understand the mission but what I don’t like about it it Hass to be realistic. I worked in department stores for over 15 years when I first started working at Macys back in 2011 I’m sorry 2012 we had sales goals but Macys was probably one of the many popular department stores, so it was almost easy to make your sales goal but over the years they found out it was driving people away. Both customers and workers because there will be a lot of days where there was no traffic and it’s a big department store. All department stores for the most part are really big and if there’s 10 people in the entire store it’s going to be hard. And certain department stores only made their sales quota only on sale days. For example, I also worked at Dillards and that place was 80% of the year no traffic the only time it was crazy busy when they had their major one day sale in the month and January 1 basically the day or the weekend after New Year’s, that was their Black Friday standing room only the moment the gate open it was like a swarm of bees coming in And you talk about hectic? Omg you haven’t seen the worst of it. Their motto for that sales day was to get rid of everything that’s left over from the end of the year for Christmas to bring in the fresh new merchandise for the new year. So you only had three days to make a decision if you wanted to return the items because everything was either 40 or 50% off with an additional 65% off. After those big sale dates, the other 80% of the year you can hear a feather drop on the floor and we working in the home department. I very seldom had not even one person in my department and my manager kept asking me how was your sales going and I’m like there’s nobody in my department most people don’t even know that we have a Home department.
    So at Nordstrom, I just got hired at the Arlington location in Virginia and I also got another job working back at Chick-fil-A transferring and I’m debating on which job I wanna take. I don’t mind going back to retail but you don’t have no life working at retail and you have crazy crazy hours , what’s it like working for Nordstrom today banned you or punish you if you don’t meet your quota and do they understand if there’s nobody in your department or if there’s no customers coming in do they understand or do they still think there’s no excuse of the return policy if somebody makes a return three or four months later and you’re the person that sold it, will it still go against your commission

    • @anthorpology
      @anthorpology  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow that’s crazy, thank you for sharing! I’ve been into a Dillards once and it was skeleton dead ahaha I would take the Nordstrom job, at least there’s commission opportunities to make more!

      @@anthorpology unfortunately look at idiot I turned down the job mainly because I do a lot of stuff with my church in different churches and they require you to have open availability and they don’t give you a set schedule and most retailers don’t open until 10 or 11 and I need some thing that opens early so that I can work a early morning shift about three or four unfortunately. And yes, Dillards 75% of the time is dead but when they had to say all days and they’re first of January sales which is the biggest sale of the entire year that’s when it’s crazy busy especially January 1. It’s crazy busy.

      @@anthorpology then I went down to another department where the manager was worse she discriminated against me was time after time rude and nasty and would often make me cry on the floor and tell me I wouldn’t have a job to come back to once I was done being pregnant. And the store manager has no idea how to correctly do his job he tried to turn Nordstrom into the Nordstrom rack the store just had a massive walk out a few weeks ago.

      @@thaigei3538 omg that’s so shitty! I’ve definitely noticed some departments could be super cliquish and rude to people joining which isn’t good. At least you’re gone now!

      Omg congratulations! I'm glad this video was helpful! 💛 Depending on who is in your department, the sales may or may not be competitive ahaha but don't be afraid to stand your ground and take ownership of a customer/sale if someone tries to challenge you on it!

      @@paulagalicia1247 I'd say just message them after a sale and be like "hey, it's Paula from Nordstrom, how are you enjoying your new xxxx" or if they haven't bought anything you could be like "hey, I know you were thinking about xyc, here are some other options" once you get in the hang of it, it's easier!
