I hate to admit that I have listened to this book a few times (maybe 3 times) and it’s not until this listen through that I realized that George and John Knightley is the George and John Knightley from Emma! Let’s just say and had a full face palm moment. Love it though lol!
You are not the only reader to be surprised by a "mash-up" combination of Austen's characters. It's a fun discovery. You know, @jesrmaxw, the greatest compliment one can pay to an author is the re-read / re-listen. Thank you! John Knightley isn't very well-developed in Emma, so I'm not surpised you didn't recognize him. I had fun making him more outspoken than the few lines he utters in Emma. I worked in a law office after graduation (too many years ago!), so perhaps I infused him with some of the personalities I encountered.
I really adore how you create situations and interactions with our most loved characters from Jane's novels. Absolutely one of my all time adaptations favorite ❤❤

Dianne, most ideas come as I am writing -- strange how that works, isn't it? I was as surprised as you to discover how well-matched these two are. Mr. Woodhouse is a good deal kinder than Mr. Bennet. And he does not mind being fussed over. She will guard his health even more ardently than he does! 😄

As you point out, options among Jane Austen's people do not come to mind. H'm. Perhaps this summer, when I am no longer in the (middle school) classroom, ideas will percolate. 😀

Great fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this story with it's focus on some of the men of Austen's books juxtaposed with the women. Many of the situations and repartee provided ample opportunities for smiles, chuckles and laughter, which always makes a book more memorable to me. The narrator did a fine job, too.
