I remember when I first heard this song back in 1989 saying to myself WOW this song is really a breath of fresh air. Martika was on fire and the world didn't even know it. It is now 2023 and I am STILL listening to this song like it's my first time hearing it.
Ugh we didn’t give Martika the credit and accolades she so well deserved. She was an icon of her time. I’m just glad we can still appreciate her craft today.
@@angelocinfio2049 well I read that once Martika left Kids Incorporated and received her music contract, she left the industry within a year or two stating that it was a very toxic culture and she had no autonomy over her music and style so she was basically like screw this and she peaced out and lived a more normal life.
I agree, especially when one considers that she was so young (only 19 when that song came out) and she used to write or co-write all of her songs. Tragically, she screwed up her career by walking away from her career just when it was hitting the stratasphere. She has just recorded an incredible CD (with Prince as a co-writer!!!!) and she had incredible songs like "Love Thy Will Be Done" on the album. As far as I'm concerned that song should have been considered for song of the year, it's really one of Prince's best!
Lots of people don't realize just how short the era of the big haired '80's was. Martika was already showing the trends of the '90s. Fishnets, shorter hair, bigger hoops, heels and gloves, trends of the 90's. She was great!
StartabandRoxy I was pointing out that the big hair trend didn't last as long as people think is all. I didn't say anything about it being good or bad.
Harold Pruett was my hero, as Cody, when I was a teenager. My life went on, and in 2002 I had my first internet connection. I looked him up only to discover he had died 6 months earlier. I was heartbroken. Ten years on, I discovered this clip, just now. I'm nearly 40, but seeing him again gave me the goose bumps.. like he was alive again for 6 minutes..
@Lisa Surlie You really need to let that go. Lots of people have problems, and unfortunately too many people never get the opportunity to overcome them. Rather than being spiteful because a human being who was flawed is gone, try respecting that his life meant something because he inspired someone while he was here.
@Lisa Surlie people have different cope of mechanisms how to deal with their own demons. Dont expect others to have same thinking and mind like you. Spread positivity not hate.
I had a massive crush on her back then too Ever since her days on "Kids Incorporated" back then the local TV station that aired Kids Incorporated, WCOV Channel 20, before it became a Fox affiliate aired that show The problem was, They aired it @6am on Saturday Since I didn't have a VCR and I didn't get that early in the day during the week, let alone on Saturday, what I ultimately ended up literally staying up all night Friday night, just so I'd be able to watch "Kids Incorporated" the following morning @ 6am Needless to say, a lot of my friends & Family had thought I'd gone off the deep end
If there's a fire in my eyes It should come as no surprise to you If I've shown you once or twice How I feel it's because it's the truth (You know that it's true) Wanted to tell you so many times How I feel when you're with me Now that I found you I know that you are my destiny I love you more than you know This feeling's so strong inside I won't let you go I'm afraid to show it 'Cause I don't want to blow it I love you more than you know You know you've got me hypnotized But that's something I should hide from you If I feel so mesmerized It's because of the things that you do (The things that you do) I only wish I could read your mind So I'd know just how you feel Send me a signal Tell me your feelings are just as real I don't mean to put you under pressure But it's something that I can't control And though I'd give you the world if I could I'm afraid to let you know 'Cause I don't want to lose your love

i remember being 19 and moving into my first apartment and I moved in, unpacked , and decorated the whole place listening to her debut cd. One of my all time faves. Her voice was just so unique and I think she is one the best of the 80's. Her cd's are few but they are amazing. martika's kitchen and the debut i believe w.ere her only two albums. Martika , you have some unfinished business...lol, would love a third album .
Besides being beautiful and a great singer she was such a good dresser. So classy. Most of what she wore back then are still in fashion now. She is still amazing at 2020....
Whenever I play this song, I feel like I have lots of energy. I can finish a lot of tasks. I miss hearing songs like this on the radio. It is definitely oozing with positive vibes, not like most of the pop songs nowadays.
Jon Lopez I’m late to the party sorry. I only got into Martika when she hooked up with Prince. Still, I’m listening to her other stuff and liking it... 👍🏾👍🏾
This video is so great and the dancing is phenomenal. Sadly, Harold Pruett, the gorgeous guy in the video died in 2002. He had such an amazing style and incredible dancing skills.

Most underrated performer.

I feel like Debbie Gibson stole her spotlight! Martika was just as good as Debbie back then

correct. Her career was waay too short.

I rocked, danced, sang the absolute Everything from this album. I was a total Kid's Incorporated fan!! Martika is still on my everyday playlist...🥰💯
So underrated even during her day. Martika is an awesome artist.

She didn't co-write this song, though.
Innate Nobility I hear that she's on the road to making a comeback
She actually released a song back in 2012 titled "Flow with the go"
She wasn't underrated. She had 2 successful albums when she decided to leave the music industry for a very good reason.
@@RiverWorksCo Which reason? 😮
the 80's was a gem & I was glad I was born in the 70's to remember all this

That smile, that hair, your style...I miss you Martika!
Amen
Martika is so beautiful!!!
Played this hit during my DJ Days in 1989 on 106.3FM/1530AM KHAT Lincoln Nebraska. Great song great memories ❤️❤️
She did the 80s fashion just right. Still looks cool in 2020
This is more like early 1990s fashion, Martika was a bit ahead of her time with that. A trendsetter :)
I'm listening to Martika More Than You Know late October 2021
@@marioalt9420 There were many bands/artists a bit or way ahead of their time!

seriously, this video is timeless. could have been 1995 just as easily.
the spirit of the 80s, being captured perfectly well here. She's amazing and had or probably still has that class most singers today didn't have.

+Rory Llewellyn There was nothing wrong with the big haired 80s. Today by comparison ...
StartabandRoxy Nowhere in that comment did I say that there was anything wrong with the 80s.

Ok.
Martika is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND DROP DEAD GORGEOUS 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
This is a #1 song to me. Her vocals and the arrangements are great.
Why do I love this girl so much? Oh yeah, because she is the epitome of 80's perfection!

susanah hoffs & martika....was a great time to be a teenage boy in the 80's
ufodan88 And Prince was after both of them. Haha.
That wonderful sound, time and colour of the melodious 80's.
This song is my favorite Martika's song. Awesome arrangement, Fresh, groovy... . Not like the crap of nowadays pop...
If there's a fire in my eyes
It should come as no surprise to you
If I've shown you once or twice
How I feel it's because it's the truth
(You know that it's true)
Wanted to tell you so many times
How I feel when you're with me
Now that I found you
I know that you are my destiny
I love you more than you know
This feeling's so strong inside
I won't let you go
I'm afraid to show it
'Cause I don't want to blow it
I love you more than you know
You know you've got me hypnotized
But that's something I should hide from you
If I feel so mesmerized
It's because of the things that you do
(The things that you do)
I only wish I could read your mind
So I'd know just how you feel
Send me a signal
Tell me your feelings are just as real
I don't mean to put you under pressure
But it's something that I can't control
And though I'd give you the world if I could
I'm afraid to let you know
'Cause I don't want to lose your love
Just one word.... Electrifying!!
Such a great song! A happy song from happier times.
Absolutely!!😎
for you maybe...but the 80's were a worse time for much of the world
