  • Gold jewelry is not cheap! Don't buy cheap jewelry! I wanted to make a video showing different chain styles that I recommend not buying for long term wear. They might seem like a good idea initially but you have to think about long term. Thanks for watching!

I always thought getting gold is a ripped off anyway hehe, same with diamonds, but I understand the people who bought from him saying they got good prices. For example: I just bought a 4.5g bracelet for $330 without taxes paying cash at LA jewelry district. But this guy is selling the same bracelet for $275 plus $25 shipping and taxes of $21.32. Total of $321.23
Of course still cheaper then what I've got.

In the 90’s when I was in high school, gold was around $500/oz so LOTS of people had gold chains. I never saw 1 herringbone that held up long-term. They didn’t break, but like you said, they always ended up with dents/bumps/bends. Every chain gets banged up if you wear it daily, but with the herringbones it is obvious. As for hollow chains, they should not even exist.

I'm a jeweler, and I don't oppose hollow chains because I want people to spend more money, I oppose them because they are poor quality. I have worked on countless hollow chains over the years, and they are absolutely awful. They break more easily than solid chains, they are much harder to repair properly, and most of the time, hollow chains won't be brought back to 100% like new even when repaired properly. While solid chains are the opposite, they are much more durable, if they do break, they are generally easy to repair, and they can be made to look 100% new after the repair.

Back in the day I used to wear a 12 MM curb with the white gold plating down the middle. They called them "white pave" back in the day. The bail on my cross pulled off all the white plating in 6 months. The texture was still there, but the white part was gone. Good info here!

Nah, 14k gold isn't solid bro. 24k is the highest. So if you got 14k gold chain. 10k of other metals is placed into the chain. So every chain will fail the magnet test besids and real real 24k gold chain. Alsoz the lesser the k it's more durable. 24k gold will snap.

In 95 I bought a 100gr rope and a few yrs later around 2001 I got a 250 gram handmade Cuban link chain. Then I got a bezentine then a franco. Out of all the chains I had my Cuban never went out of style. You can’t go wrong with a Cuban in my opinion. I'm just glad it's people like this putting out this information for others to educate themselves on jewelry. A lot of people don't know shit and think they know. I've had plenty of all types of jewelry and have been wearing jewelry since I was a kid. Like elementary school kid kid. My dad use to buy all of our jewelry from Albert's in NW Indiana

If you like it, go ahead and get it. Worst case scenario, the franco ends up looking like solid rose gold. That's not a bad thing to me. And, it will take a long time and a lot of wear for that to even happen. Pull the trigger, you've got nothing to lose.

I have 2-tone solid 10kt Figarro chain and matching bracelet with white (I guess rhodium?) accents. Wear them every day, don't take it off to sleep/shower and they both still looks great 20+ years later. Am I just lucky or were these made more resilient in the early 2000s?

  • @supertriz

Not really a chain, but stay away from those bracelets with the fold-over lid-style closures. They WILL open when you least expect and next thing you know it’s gone. I’ve lost 2 bracelets like that. I guess it applies to any closure device that is not secure.

Do not listen to this do make your own decisions based off of quality as well as the size of the jury at the sizes big enough then it's not going to damage that easy if you get something Hollow then I mean that's a no-brainer.

The rope hollow chains are cool, just if you have little kids beware of them tuggin on it and then breaking it. You can repair but watch where u take it, some places will use metal instead of gold to fix
