This helps me so much, I knew most of the important basics but this video has given me a road for not just improving the mechanics I already have but also new aspects to the same mechanics. Thanks luke you’re a lifesaver :)
Counter point to speedflips being essential. If you don't want to learn then, then watch your opponent closely on kickoff and position yourself for the second touch instead. I'll be honest, I find it a bit easier to win doing this than constant speedflip kickoffs
I do agree that bounce dribbles are essential and are a great mechanic but, at the lower ranks you don't really get a lot of space and time because everyone just ball chases and hits the ball away.
Funny that when you're in the lower ranks and you're trying to get the ball to bounce before you clear it, here comes your teammate hitting it before it lands for no reason and hitting it off a wall for a perfect pass to the other team... then they hit you with a "what a save" 🤣
thanks for the tips. ive been practicing most of these already but bounce dribbling is one ill have to add to the list. i do it by accident sometimes but now im determined to use that skill.
Well done Luke! I agree with your assessments. I've started to implement all of these more consistently and have seen a huge improvement. I have started learning how to do Bounce Dribble well, even to where I am starting to do them without thinking about it, and it is so effective.
Would be cool if someone made a training pack for all of these mechanics. It could be a go too for warm up regimen before comp. If these are the most important, specifically training on these to warm up should be a no brainer. Spooky Warm Up.
lmao i almost hit gc2 and i cant half flip and i hate it, i have to play a way where im always facing play and puts me at a disadvantage, been trying to learn it, just nvr practiced them over the years lol
I feel like even some GC1's like myself could benefit from this video in which it more serves as a reminder rather that teaching something new. I can't remember the last time I chose to do a bounce dribble rather than something in the air. Always a breath of fresh air from luke!
For real, sometimes you forget about the simple bug effective mechanics. Helps to vary your gameplay to stay unpredictable too. Gl to all of u trying to improve, remember it isn’t a straight line up!
Havent played for a long time, and completely lost my feel for the game. I used to be diamond, so nothing fancy or anything. But this vid makes me wanna play again! Those bounce dribbles seem fairly easy to learn and make a lot of sense!
08:45 you say that people in lower rank give you a lot of space. Never found an opponent who gave me space. All ballchaser in 1v1 and a lot of ballchasers in 2s and 3s
It is literally the opposite of what he said. GCs and SSLs will respect your plays and won't see you as a threat if you have possession in your half of the field as seen in any 2s video on any RL TH-cam Channel ever. Low ranks though, they instachallenge, monkey, demo/ball chase and make touches just to touch the ball with no intent behind them. I've recently experimented a lot and looked at what my opponents would do if I just jumped towards the ball and they will instantly jump the moment you jump just because they want to beat you to the ball even if it's obvious they won't beat you to it. It's crazy. They literally just HEAR someone jump and boost and like a reflex they instantly jump as well even if they don't even see you.
Clears: Yes, yes and yes. I see champ 3's that can't clear well, wich is insane o me. might be because I was almost forced to play defense in the lowest ranks ro rank up, and/or that I have a background in football, but bouncetimings I allready learned in silver. No excuse for that shit anywhere in champ. It's soooooo easy.
Man, I have this problem where my perception for lack of a better word is stuck on my camera. The best may for me to explain it would be if my car is reversed and the ball is on the right side of the camera but left side of the car, i always flip right on accident, same with inverted controls on like backwards aerials and stuff. This also affects everything I do because I don’t have to be reversed, that was just the simplest example I could think of. Speed flips I can’t seem to get down in game because If in ball cam I just won’t do it right. There’s other things too I just can’t think of them off the top of my head, just wanted to put this here for advice if anyone has any. Does this just get better with practice, or is it just an issue with me?
You are definitely not the only one. Backwards driving and doing stuff can often be confusing especially when you are focusing more on the play rather than your car in the moment. My current biggest problem is when I am backwards but I need to slightly air roll to recover correctly but I end up air rolling the wrong way and in turn end up turtling rather that recovering lol. But I will say that yes, all of it can be fixed with enough practice. Speed flips I have no advice on because I cannot speed flip, mainly because I play KBM and also because I haven't played rocket league as much. From what I've noticed, most of the times when people speed flip they usually do that without ball cam but I feel like eventually it just becomes muscle memory just like half flips do so where the camera is facing, doesn't make a difference. Hope this helps
I will say i got backwards aerials down by just going to pillars on slow mo and doing figure 8s backwards. Slow mo help you stay in the air longer when you mess up so you can get the muscle memory down
You mean you flick directions in relation to the camera angle instead of your controller (or in other words camera on car) right? I make this mistake alot too
I had this problem too although I fixed most of these by grinding 1v1s. However for the speedflip I do the motion without ballcam and switch to ballcam right before I hit the ball.
Wave dash? I use it a lot when recovering off the wall to save some boost. I wave dash so often in my games it’s like second nature at this point just like half flipping
I’m a bit late to this video. Sorry if you have mentioned this in a more recent video. But the only things I would add is penny boost pickups and/or boost management. Loved all the other recommendations tho!
*Disclaimer - this isn’t really considered a mechanic, however I do recommended treating it like one. Getting into the habit of picking up pennys when transitioning back to goal or even when stuck defending your goal, can be a huge game changer for most people
Thank you so much I just got to champ for the first time today after watching this I dont know what it was about the video but it helped it I think it made me focus a bit more on the recovery side of my gameplay
Can't forget about playing consistently mechanics mean nothing of you can't play with consistency and that's why I'm currently stuck in high plat is cuz of my poor consistency
Dumb question- For power slide cuts do you need to be able to press boost and power slide at the same time? I’ve got my controlled bound to default power slide and boost and have the hardest time doing this mechanic.
I just wish my duo would learn about this stuff... He's C3 but he only goes for freestyles and comes really close to ballchasing... Sometimes I wonder how I'm C2 and he's C3 because I usually carry him by a lot. 😩 he's such a fast player too, it kinda sucks.
Hey can you make us a vid on how to win more consistently SoloQ'ing instead of the usual " stop caring so much ", that thing indeed makes me less likely to make the controler and wall hug together but still doesn't help ranking up
I think Luke would be great at explaining this, however Virge also has a video called “how to carry bad teammates” or something along that line. It can really help you with stopping bad habits in solo q’s as well as giving you good mentalities for working with your teammates
@@kiwiAjs also Flake's road to SSL with no mechanics series is good too. I think I currently am developing kinda bad habits cuz I'm watching Leth too much and so end up cutting off my tm8s often and stuff
Okay this isn’t in for how to learn it’s just spukelucke it’s funny how you were timing the sponsor segment and right after that it was the cinematic and next thing you know it’s an add after lol 😆
I see that Flake's 1v1 and 2v2 road to ssl without mechanics series affected all your videos mate. You would never talk abput power slide cuts and bounce dribbling before
Is normal air roll supposed to be easier than directional air roll? Because for me at least it's not but I see youtubers talk about it like it's easier or something maybe I just hear it the wrong way or something
Question about half flips. Why is sometimes when I try to half flip when I cancel my car rotates on its own without using air roll?mainly when powersliding uturns. Fucks me up and I land on my side when I'm not ready. Is it because I'm not doing a perfectly straight backflip and cancel. Too much diagonal input?
The backflip has to be straight because technically your getting less time to flip your car properly and if you get too much time you might flip to far.
He’s right about the double jump pop, I catch some many people off guard by just popping it up
Yeah cuz they always expect a flick
Yea but it’s so simple and people always did it in plat flicks really look better that’s why I pefer them
agreed, but recovering from it is usually rather difficult if your opponent saves it.
Yea my ass steady keep getting caught by that
ye my defender was destroyed by it
This helps me so much, I knew most of the important basics but this video has given me a road for not just improving the mechanics I already have but also new aspects to the same mechanics. Thanks luke you’re a lifesaver :)

Am a bit late but... I literally only train shadow defence lmao. Love the vid btw very helpful. I now know what I'm missing
To be honest? I'm surprised people don;'t use half flips more often when needed. It's one of if not the EASIEST mechanics other the jumping.
