- In this tutorial, I will teach u how to upload the firmware to the Arduino board and the important software needed for this project step by step.

when you are opening wheel config make sure you are opening "wheel config Dev " there are 2 applications inside it, u may not see them in there but you can search in the search bar( type wheelconfig ) and get it! If you get an error message while installing Wheelcinfig software I suggest you change the installing location to another drive and install it.

There are many encoders if your encoder has 5 wires it means the other wire is for the Z, one for the 5v(VCC), the other for the GRD, other 3 are A, B, and Z. since I have used 4 wired encoder I have to use a toggle switch for the Z.

@Lolac Cro I have uploaded the zip file of the wheelconfig to the drive, Try to uninstall the previous one properly and re-install it. if you get an error message while installing try to install it to a different location. One of my friends had that issue and that method solved the problem, search for wheel config in the search bar you will see the same icon named "Dev" if that did not work try to download the software from where I got it, I will put it in the description.
Does a generic Leonardo board work the same way or do I need only the original Arduino Leonardo
I hven't tried. It it may work but force feedback may not work properly. Its better if you can user th original board.

Hello i connected everything but on wheel config the rotation doesnt show but on emc i can see the rotation and my motors only runs one direction i am using bts7960 20a. also sometimes motors just keeps spinning why would that be?
the reason the motors keep spinning is because your software thinks your encoder is not in center so until it become center it keep spinning. Due to your encoder is not working properly it is not stop spinning. make sure your connections to the encoder is right ( no loose connections) and i found a mistake in my diagram in force feedback section and i will update the drive image. your problem is in the encoder see what is the issue. most of the time it may not connected to the right ones( vcc , GRD , phace A,B,Z). i have not touched emc but its better if you could stay with wheel config because i can help. try re installing the software see whether one of those methods will fix the problem.

Hello, i have made a ffb steering wheel same as other a motor, ibt2, and Arduino Leonardo with 3 pedal based on potentiometer, 7 button shifter plus more button I want to add as ets/ats2 need more than 7 gear and for drifting I want to add a load cell handbrake (hx711)
What firmware do need to ?
How can I use these all
Future upgrade can be a 100kg loadcell to brake pedal

Long thing short , you need more buttons right ? I never tried it but. If you can use another leanado board and use the emc utility software as the secondary set, it has a deferent firmware and u need upload it to the board the same way u did this. Then connection the buttons to the secondary board and plug it to the pc.then run both emc utility software and wheelconfig software you are using. It should take as 2devices and you can use the secondary board buttons for your liking.from this method ,You can use the handbrake too it takes a analog input i think(load cell handbrake ) you got to do an experiment. What exactly is the code in the hex file? Is it like serial communication code for the buttons we press?
Something like that. Its like the middle man of the software and the hadware. Without it, wheelconfig cannot recognize your buttons and the encoder readings.
The hex file could be different from one software to another , this one is spesifc for the wheelconfig software.
Can you help me whenever i turn my wheel left or right it move slighly ang keep coming back to the center

Most probebly this kind of a issue can happen because of your encoder. If it is not aligned properly this can happen. Can you join the discord and send me a image of your encoder! Yes u can. You need 2 potentiometers for this but the only problem is you can turn a limited rounds. I tried it it works accurately. But u have to risk 2 of 3(accelerator , brake, clutch )

Yes this have a x axis and a Y axis but im not sure how accurate this will be for your project. How can i help u?
If your flight simulater yoke has a rotatonal motion input u can use it as well. U can use for 3 analog inputs like acceleration,brake. And you can have 9 digital inputs from this ! I think you can cover a big roll from this.
Yes I only need to potentiometer for the the x and y. But my main concern is about the force feedback. I will need 2 motors instead of 1. Meaning there will be one motor for x axis and one for y axis

You need to look inside of a broken printer or find a printer encoder online, it will be much easier if you clould search on ebay or alliexpress. Alliexpress is cheaper than ebay. Link for the encoder is given in the description.
Right side encoder rotation not reading in wheelconfig please help
Could be few issues for this. Your encoder disk is not properly aligned with the sensor or your wires may have loose connection or your encoder is not working properly. Comen issue is the alignment.

I previously make this project using an Arduino pro micro with an disk encoder I face this problem after that I decide to change my board because of that problem I buy a new Arduino Leonardo R3 board and 600 ppr orange encoder but now also I face this problem
@@Rotating_Wheels are you sure you imported the firmware correctly ? And can you see the version 0.16 in the wheelconfig ? Try re installing wheel config that i have uploaded to my drive(link in the description ) if you are still using win 7 that could be the issue.. win 7 do not have new updates.. try installing win 8 or above.. you might get it to work.

But the link i provided in the description works fine. Coz its in one of my drives. Try both if u have any question feel free to ask i'll try my best to help you. 😊
If you have already installed the software just search after pressing the windows button "dev" you should see it. If not try reinstalling it to a different location like to a nother dirve. If that did nit work download from somwere else and try again. My google drive linked software works fine. Change the defoult install location and then install. Good luck. ✨
what is the encoder ppr value u have set?
900 but it depends on each encoder. If you use a lower value you can see the triangle routation is fast if u increase the ppr value you triangle spins slower in ref wheelconfig.

I have never used this ky-040 rotary encoder but it should work. I have uploaded a photo of this encoder(link i the discription) try to connect it that way. Since i have never done that i cannot garentee it is 100% working. But i believe it work just luke normal encoders. Do not give more than 5 v to the vcc. You have to find a way to connect it to tge steering wheel axel.
It doesn't support to wheel config.

You cannot do it without "dev" first solve that issue then you will solve 50% of your problems. I tried with wheelconfig but it doesn't work you need that "dev". That could be a reason you get a callibration error or your encoder is pluged in a wrong way or loose connection. Check the connection well. First try to fix the dev. The ways i told you. I'm trying to make a full video about this but i couldn't find a encoder ,still searching for a one.

Im still working on my project, it's not finished yet. I'm also having a problem with my encoder so im looking for a new one. But i may be able to help your problem coz i have some expiriance with encoders . I have done some experiments and i accidentally burnt one of my encoders.
@@charliegaming766 i've used the same encoder as showin in this video but it dosent work smoothly like shown in videos of mypc yt channel.....it gets disconnected often and when ever i give the power the motor starts to run on its own and doesnot stop...facing many errors like this...please help.....can i contact you i whatsapp or somthing? it would be easier to communicate then....i need some help bro
@@mahamantraghosh8543 I think we both are having the same problem. the problem with this encoder is it works only for one place, like the sweet spot. if you can design a 3D printed part or something it may solve the problem. the reason your encoder disconnects is that when it rotates, the distance between the disc and the sensor changes. that is one of the main reasons that the software stops showing it rotates & for the smoothness. I recommend you disconnect the motor (force feedback unit) until you fix the encoder problem because only from the encoder the computer knows your steering wheel position. if it's not working properly the motor is spinning until the encoder comes back to the center wheel position. and if it did not work I strongly recommend you to find a build in encoder that the encoder sensor and the disc are fixed together. currently, I am looking for a different encoder. I will bring a video about encoders with my knowledge and experience. I will upload a short video look at it, I used a Canon printer encoder it works like a charm.

Why are u using z toggle and buttons
Some encoders have only 4 wires. One for the 5v one for the GND , one for the phase A and the other for phase B , but to make this happen we need another phase , known as z, thats why we are using a toggle switch to do the thing what phase z does. Once you use the toggle switch it allow the software to detect the hardware when you rotate the encoder. I hope u understand. I explained simple as possible. If your encoder has 5 wires u do not need a toggle switch. U can use the other wire as z.
Exra buttons can be used to custumize as our liking. Like u can use them as a horn, gear shifting buttons or as a handbrake . U can map them to do anything.

Hi sir ... thanks for sharing your effort... i am facing problem in encoder setting i've ordered " Incremental Rotary Encoder 600p/r " but they sent me " Incremental Rotary Encoder 400p/r ", and now its not response at all when i try to calibrate it in wheel config software ( dev ) dos not move and dosnot give me any reading . i tried disconnect and reconnect Z toogle .... its same. i suppose i must put 400 in ppr setting but its realy confuesed me, i watched alot of tuterials every body put diffrent number depended on what ? i dont know ...
so whould you please help me to resolve this problem i will be so thankfull to you .

Hello,
That 400p/r should be the ppr value of the encoder( PPR describes the number of high pulses an encoder will have on either of its square wave outputs A or B over a single revolution.) In wheel config dev -->Advanced settings ,you can see there is a section to add the ppr value. Try 400 for that. If it did not work try with higer numbers. Make sure u have connected the wires correctly. This encoder have 5 wires including the phase Z so if your encoder have 5 wires do not use a toggle switch beacuse u don't need one. I used it because my encoder have only 4 wires. Maybe thats why you do not get any readings. If non of this work, make sure your encoder is working or not. There are bunch of tutorials so find one and check whether your encoder is working or not!

my encoder have just 4 wire ( Red, Black, Green and white ... i think they are vcc, gnd, output A, output B) ... and all of them inside kind of aluminum shield ... and as you said its 400 ppr.. so i used this number in dev advanced setting as ppr encoder setting ... i connect z toggle and disconnect it ( pin6 to gnd ) same problem ... i tried upload code to test encoder separately and its works perfectly ...
In fact, I have reached advanced stages of depression...everything is ready for me except for this encoder , and it is not easy to get a new one again. I live in Syria and the international sanctions impose a difficult reality on us, and we cannot order online that easily.
@@mohamadzarka9920 it's ok I will do my best to help you to fix your problem. This issue is different, Looks like your encoder works fine. it does not work only when the full circuit is done am I right? if u did it only once make sure it works again after it connected separately ( isolated from the main circuit) to make sure it is not burnt. wrong connection could short circuit the encoder. Anyway I think this issue should solve from this method . There are like 3 GRD pins in the Leonardo board so plug the encoder GRD wire to one of other GRD pins. Or maybe your toggle switch is not working properly did you check that? I understand your difficulty let's try to fix with this encoder.
