I think the outrage from his female audience is motivated more by feelings of betrayal than offence.
His rise to fame was enabled by a mostly female audience supporting him on social media for a joke that was weak and unoriginal. Stav nailed it on the head on that WMBD podcast.

It's not edgy tho - that joke is a century old. It's been married, divorced, had kids, grandkids, and so on. This isn't new or original. It's just an old black eye joke about a woman not being able to cook. It's so overdone and not funny. But, it was still just short joke compared to the rest of the special - just surprised he did this for Netflix.

He's an interesting guy, does well acting, decent writer... But, nobody has ever smiled and bragged to their friends because they're going to see Marc Maron. Matt Rife is one of the best crowd work comedians. His stand up wasn't a 10 out of 10... But, it was above average. He's got nowhere to go but up with his material. He could have easily put out a really safe LA comic style special and cashed in on the broad appeal for the next decade.

Stav takes weird opportunities to morally grandstand on some of these more touchy subjects and his whole take on this is just bad considering he was a laugh track for Nick's jokes which were just as offensive. I do agree that Stav is way more popular than Matt and yes comedy is subjective, however i don't think he is genuine in his criticism. All i know is when in this video Stav said you can joke about anything if the joke is funny which is 100% true, and i have been aware of Matt for a little while now and i personally dont find him funny at all. his jokes are not very good at all, so i can totally see how a regual who doesn't know who Matt is would be offended by his jokes. Imagine taking Andrew Dice Clay and try to put him on netflix today in 2023..... it would be the most disastrous thing to ever happen. Just because something is shocking doesn't mean it's funny, and honestly, you sound like you just dont like Stav, so you are using his pretty accurate accesment of this situation to take a shot at him. personally i think he's got potential but as of now he's still mid to me compared to the plethora of other new talents comedy has to offer. whether you want to admit it or not though, he clearly gets hellaaa extra hate because it's not only from his snowflake gen Z fanbase, but also his peers in the industry because it's rare to see a handsome dude doing well in comedy lol and that's just facts. even in this video theres two guys ready to hop on the hate train and you can tell tim's tryna back him up. i've also seen on one of theo's pod when he had tom segura on discussing matt rife and it seemed like he was tryna bait tom into trolling matt but tom didn't bite. overall i think matt's a net positive for comedy but just like a rookie you gotta give it time.

Absolutely! He had some clip go viral on Tiktok and next thing he knows he's doing arenas from coast to coast! He knows he's not necessarily ready for that level but WTH do people expect him to do?? He can't just stick to the local chucklehut for $500 for the weekend when he can be making the millions

I counted 19 dudes discussing about a misogynistic joke but no women. If you think that this is part of the problem clap your hands 🙌

Stupid, the complainers don’t get comedy. It’s like Shane Gillis making special needs jokes 😂 btw I’m female, have an autistic son, and work w adults w disabilities. You must find humor in everything ❤

Some people think that walking up behind a complete stranger and hitting him/her in the back of the head is "funny" too... sorry, not everything is funny.

@@WRDend Well, that's the issue these days. It's ok as long as you say, "I'm only joking". If the other person isn't OK with it, then they get accused of being "woke". Sooo... you just caught me having sex with your wife/gf/mom. I tell you, "Hey man, it's just a joke! Haha!" Is that how it works? Or do I have to say something like, "I'm doing you a favor since your woman is so ugly... gotta make you feel as if your choice in ugly women is worth something." Funny, right?

I honestly think the joke was lazy af. Like i swear to god i heard this same joke 100 times when I was a 12 year old kid hanging with my buddies laughing at dick and fart jokes all day. All of us have heard that joke tons of times lmao
