I go tent camping once in a blue moon. I need three things for sure when I go……a comfortable folding mattress, a toasty sleeping bag and a tarp under my tent. A nearby restroom and morning coffee are a plus too

Reminds me of our 3 family tent camping on the Beach at Ensenada - in 1962 - no toilette save a “seat stool” with plastic bags. Kids enjoyed it including the clam digging, cooking & eating. All the parents are gone - kids remain distant friends with vivid memories & observations about the other families. 1962 Ford Esquire with airbags - I was relegated to the “way back” while my Sister, her friend and my 7 year old brother were in the middle seat. What an adventure reflections from 61 years ago.

Where’s the Honey Bucket? All my memories of tent camping include them.
You all are so funny and that’s because of how down to earth and real you are, by what you say and your reactions to every challenge you endure. 👍🇺🇸🔆🫖

We had an associate pastor years ago the was not a tent camper. After a father/son camp out he stood up in church the next day and said “I slept like a baby; I woke up every hour crying.”

Fun fact, we camped along the NC beach when the kids were younger. The winds were very strong, when we were packing up to leave, we saw a mosquito service truck spraying the area. If it had not been for the wind, we would have been inundated with the pests! Give Thanks in all circumstances. Great Video.

We tent camped there many years ago (not on the beach). It is a cool place. The horses will definitely come into your camping area and eat your food.

I can usually get a chuckle out of most of your videos, but with this one I was laughing full on right from the start. Grew up tent camping as a very young girl; family of five in an old-fashioned canvas tent. My little Brother was in diapers and I don’t know how my Momma did it, but we had a whale of a good time primitive camping - and I mean primitive.
Will definitely put beach camping at Assateague on my bucket list of things to do. There’s something very magical about seeing the dawn of a new day and the colors breaking on the horizon. One thing is for sure - I’ll have one of those new inflatable hiking/sleep pads for my older bones lol. Thanks for sharing!

I am laughing my butt off. We have been camping for over 60 years and are so used to it. We bought a 26' TT and we still love our tent better. I am 75 and still love tent camping in a tent. Buckle up Buttercup and have fun.

Oh how nice tent camping. I have not done that in years. Never camped at a beach but near one. The kids were excited. I had no idea that there are wild horses on the beach. I love you guys you are so funny. I’m so glad I watch your channel.

    Awesome video
We love Assateague and have camped there in every season for almost 35 years. There’s always something new to experience. We also so happy that the Park Service, MD and VA have basically returned the coast to nature from Ocean City MD south to Cape Charles VA. Incredible remote areas in the middle of the eastern seaboard hustle
Thanks for sharing your experience, especially with the young kids. We’ve tent camped there with ours many times, including when they brought their owns friends and tents.

Assateague Island was my favorite place to visit when I lived in VA. I stayed in a small inn on Chincoteague Island, though, and rented a bike for the day to go over and explore Assateague. There are great trails through the woods and around the water/along the beach. The ponies would pop out of the woods right in front of you, mosey along the trail a bit, then head back off into the woods again. Love the shots of the sunset you captured, and especially the dolphins. There’s just something about the ocean!

A blow up air mattress makes all the difference in happiness in camping. If you are comfortable, dry and warm, you will love it. A means of cooking simple food? Good to go. Walnart camping gear is perfectly fine. My favorite sleeping bag was about $15.

Our very first tent camping was at Assateague and we had a borrowed old pup tent that someone had packed damp...stink. We were able to overnight in a huge tent with friends. Then the rain started and continued into the next day. Our pup tent floated away. The horses took our clothes that were hanging on the dining tent. The flies and mosquitos were as big as the birds that ate our food. We had a blast though!. 5 kids and 4 adults in the tent. The rain cleared up as we left the park and we stopped on the way home and bought our first tent, a 9 x 12 canvas tent. This was about 1979 and we continued camping for many years...mostly in Maryland mountains where we now live.

OK guys, you need to go camping on a motorcycle, it will teach you how to camp lightly. You only have so much space and you're not going to pack much. It takes that simplicity thing to a whole new level. It was nice to see Hensley's pink boots again and it looks like JJ is getting his curls back. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

How much fun! I tent camp and use a Walmart 16.00 dollar 10 inch twin air mattress with plenty of thickness, I sleep like a baby, better than my own at home mattress! As a side sleeper, I could never sleep on anything under 7 inches thick, thin mattresses are shoulder and hip killers lol! Let the "littles" have the thin ones! Lucky you didn't have any fog, you would have been sopped without your tent fly on! This was a great family experience to give your kids, family and friends and a campfire with sunrise and sunset. Perfect!

Assateague Island is in our state of MD. Just saw this and it reminded me of when we tent camped there with our 3 boys and our cub scout Pack about, wow, 18 years ago. The water was great, beautiful weather, not much bugs. The horses were there getting into other peoples stuff looking for food. The only bad that happened was when we were cooking dinner, chicken on the grill, the wind picked up the sand and blew it on to the chicken. No one from the pack of 20 adults and kids would eat it. Ended up eating hot dogs. But other than that we had a great time. The boys had gone back when they were older in Boy Scouts, no problem there, better cooks then. lol

I used to tent camp all the time when I was a boy scout, then went a lot with my son when I was a scout master. We also tent camped as a family, but it was more like glamping to please my wife and daughter. But the day we bought our class A, never been tent camping since. Yeah, go to Walmart for supplies, unless you need high quality stuff that’s going to last. Looks like you had a good time, and more importantly, you created another great adventure with your family.

Once we had our rv, no more tent camping with the kids! Horrible cold nights trying to keep a bottle warm or on top of a rock poking you in wind lol! I like my bed and toilet 😁 We bought our first rv when our son was 3 and daughter a baby, our parents told us it was too extravagant for our age but we never regretted it. So many wonderful trips, camping even living in while remodeling homes. Love all your destinations and your family! My kids are adults now so I enjoy your adventures with kiddos!❤🏕🌅🐎

The last time my wife and I did a backpack trip together, we hiked (on a fairly short and very easy) trail to a crescent shaped beach on the Pacific Ocean. It was packed with other campers and only one spot was left where we were able to set up our tent. Even with the crowded conditions, it was beautiful. The worst downside was that, pretty much all night, the gentle rhythm of the surf had me dreaming (and waking up each time the dream repeated) the tide had come in far enough that we were being washed out to sea in our tent. I confess that is one of the times I slept on the ground on one of those entirely inadequate pads without that particular discomfort bothering me as much as it usually did. So the nightmares did have that one positive aspect.

Tent camping....it has seasons. A time for rough and dirty camping and a time for a comfortable bed camping ( and you get to decide what that looks like) YOU get to decide what tent camping looks like so it’s enjoyable to you.

Although I’ve never tent camped on a beach, I’ve tent camped many, many times in the mountains!! Our daughter went on her first camping trip at 3 weeks. We slept in the back of our pickup. It’s only in the last 25-30 years of our 50 years of marriage that we’ve been in a trailer, because getting up off the floor at our age is near impossible!!!!

We have fine tuned our set up over the years, but it’s definitely nerve wracking doing it the first time with kids. We would love to get an RV in the future, but like Nathan said, the places you can stay with a tent are so epic sometimes.

You guys are hilarious! Been tent glamping for 50+ years. My son's first camp was at a month old in JTNM (national monument) before it became natl park. When he was a teen we homeschooled & were tenting glamping nomads in a car across the country with a dog & a cat and even with the hugh coleman camp kitchen. Still use it today. Used a couple tarps for the bathroom & shower tents. Have upgraded now to the two room shower tent. 😄😄
Tent & backpacking can get you to views where rigs can't go.
Now that I'm older & slower am looking at getting a small TH & will still be bringing the tent setup.

You guys crack me up! You have been so bold over the years with some of your adventures but Marissa’s trepidation on this one was epic 😂. We raised our kids with a combination of tent and Rv camping. We did a 10 day boat camping trip every August with about 25 friends and family for years. Boat 15 miles down a reservoir and pitch a huge camp on the beach. All our kids were within a 4 year range and we started when the youngest was 2. Our kids now all have kids of their own and still do all sorts of camping. You have given your kids such a gift!

It's one thing to be family tent camping for the first time, but to do it on sand...AND with little ones. I'm surprised you didn't have sand everywhere. I once took a group of kids to Great Sand Dunes NP, and they couldn't sleep because after rolling down the sand dunes all day, they could never quite get all of the sand off and they ended up sleeping in sleeping bags full of sand! 🤣🤣🤣 But that does look like a very beautiful and unique place.

When we visited the park this summer and saw those sites, the wind and bugs were my concern. If either got bad there was no getting away from them up there on the beach.
Be glad you picked the place you did for firewood. I went to the place around the corner from there a few months ago and it was all wet and wouldn't burn.
What RV campground did you stay at while there? And how was it?
