Finally I used this method for an appropriated P & L, splicing data from two systems a CRM and Sage Accounts 50c! Brilliant! You make me look like a genius at work! Thank You Very Much and in Welsh "Diolch yn fawr i chi"! :)
I like your presentations a lot as they are not only easy to follow but you have a very convincing attitude. You talk in the right tempo and well-articulated to follow. Your enthusiasm really works! Thank you!
I have worked on pivot tables for quite a few years but I learned quite a few things just from this video!!I like how you explain things short and to the point.I am looking forward to watching some more of your videos!
Nicely presented, Mynda. This should advance acceptance of table based modeling and PivotTables in general. I'd like to remind viewers that a HUGE advantage of PivotTable financial statements in addition to slicers is DRILLDOWN! This is particularly useful when we pull detail actuals directly from our financial systems using Power Query.
Thanks so much, Craig! Indeed, using Slicers to drill down is one of the main benefits of PivotTables...not to mention they are far more robust than any formula based solution.
Yes Craig! The drill down when you double click to see the transactional detail is one of the best parts of having this kind of information in a pivot table! Mynda showed an awesome example of how a P&L can properly look in a pivot table. Love this.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub update...i publish on demand up to 3 years only financial statements nearly 30 divisions using power query to merge chart of accounts, opening balances, current activity, posted and not posted for well over 600,000 transactions. best part is that i can show Financial statements segregated by posted and waiting to be posted so that we can predict what the statements will show once posted. what rakes others a full day, just takes me to refresh and in about 20 minutes its done. who needs college? best bang for the buck for this 40 year accountant are videos like this.
So many comments in just one day? Yes... it is very efficiently and masterfully done. I followed it. Too bad that the variable were already done, so I could not create them. But very minor element. Working model is convenient too. I will continue with other lessons.
Excellent! I really like that you provided a file so that I could go through the steps myself. I hadn't done this in a while and needed a refresher. I picked up several things that I hadn't known before. Will be checking out more of your content. Thanks.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub I have a single question if you do not mind , after completing every thing , how can i prevent my dashboard from being change while being used by my manager
Great to hear, Brian! Please consider my PivotTable Quick Start course that'll have you up and running with PivotTables in 1.5hrs: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-pivottable-course-quick-start
Thank you for the tutorials. Can you please make tutorial on complete accounting process, from Data Entry Transaction to Trail Balance, Income Statement, Balance Sheet and dashboard only by using Tables pivot tables? This will help me and I believe so many other accounting students. Thanks
You have put an end to my worry with this video. I have been looking for a simple way to automate my month-end report. I have used this knowledge together with power pivot and power query in my current work to prepare some important reports. Please, is there a way to manually edit the value fields may be during a management meeting(adjust the values). You are great. Thanks and Thanks. Problem solver.
That is fantastic. Thank you! I spent 2 days doing something similar in Power BI, but this is so much easier! my question is though, when would you choose power bi over excel?
Awesome to hear! I use Power Query whenever I have multiple steps I need to perform to clean data, or if it's something I'm going to want to do again when new data gets added to the source I'm referencing. If it's a one time and done task, then I'll probably use one of the Excel tools.
Thank you mam. Today i practiced everything shown in the video and learned new formatting technique to present report. If you know that in india most of the companies use either SAP accounting or Quickbook or Tally and dld reports in csv or excel file. From this i learned how to present report in structured and in cleaned manner. Thank you mam
Excelent explanation ! But too nice to be true... if as it is almost always the actual and budget are not different fields but rather one field sorted by year / budget (it is not possible then to calculate the variance )
I love you 💕💕 I've developed a P&L that uses some source data from an SQL database (the P&L can be different as I work with different companies. This could just give me the 'portable' solution I need . Thank you
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub I've got a question. Related to my comment above. I'm finding the performance of a pivottable version of my previously created P&L is significantly quicker at updating than my pivottable alternative (using your great video above). Any tips on how to make it almost instant with ~1600 rows of source data? (Note I'm also bringing in my financial period data for the entire FY)
Many thanks for this great tutorial Mynda! I think this P&L report would be easier to read if there was a bit more whitespace between the lines. I strongly prefer to scroll down rather than read scrunched reports (even if the whole report can be seen on one screen). Just some feedback for what it's worth... 🙂
Hi, thanks for the video. Would like to seek for help if the raw data consist of a mix of balance sheet and profit and loss items, how can we use pivot method to do it?
You'd have to add another column to your source data that categorizes them into P&L or BS and then you can filter the BS accounts out of the PivotTable.
Glad you can use it, Zubair. If you have messy data you can clean it first with Power Query. Here's an example of using Power Query to unpivot data: th-cam.com/video/-IMqkg35adA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks a lot for the useful tutorial! A quick question, please: if I added a row of Net Profit as a calculated item and now I would like to add Net Profit percentage (from Revenue) also in a row, how do I do it correctly so it will not summarize all percentages below on the total level?
You can't add the percentage as another item, you'd have to add it in a separate column and use the 'Show Values As' setting as explained here: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/show-values-as-percentage-of-another-pivottable-column-total
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub thank you for your reply, but I need it in row not in column, that's the issue. In columns I have years and in rows all P&L accounts, like revenue, cogs, opex, fin. exp., etc. and the net profit is calculated in rows as well. Thanks again!
A good everyday use of Excel: working with P&L statements. Thanks for the real life, down-to-earth demo.

With a PivotTable you can only insert one blank row after each item, but you can always make those rows wider if you prefer.
