This is really cool but the example is too simple to use Power query or power Pivot. Do you have more complex example - multiple entities and reporting periods? My power pivot has a entity ID listed horizontally, plus a reporting period as the pivot drop-down.

Hi Jay, For me, I usually use Text.Middle(Text.From(datedata),6,4)&"-"& Text.Middle(Text.From(datedata),3,2). Hop this will help
i still prefer using calculated items
