Freshwater Boat mechanic here. Its funny to see little things that we all end up carrying- like a mini wire brush, red/green tape, and blue tape (why Don't we just use masking tape and write port?!?). Is interesting to see, I end up using a LOT of deepwell sockets, 1/4 and 3/8, and almost always grab the ratcheting combos. I'm going to try and add the swivel sockets and 6" impact extensions to my box, curious to see how much use they get! Great video+content
Truly a Marine Technician tools. A very practical carry. I have only approx 60% carried around in my kit, as we have to walk major distance inside the sites..mainly remote areas. The weight factor plays a major roll. At the same time we have to ensure we carry all tools needed too. As just to come back to site is a major challenge at times
Number 10 socket! Everyone looses it. I actually use a pelican waterproof case with wheels. Amazing as i take it on the boat and keeps my tools dry and safe and it floats. #tools
#Tools - Most important tool for me is a small Streamlight flashlight so I can clearly see what I am looking at. I too am a marine technician and can be outside in the bright light trying to see in an area that is a bit dark. On occasion, I have diagnosed an issue simply by being able to clearly see what I am looking at without any tools.
250 lumen or better headlamp, frees up hands, gets rid of shadows and blind spots. And seems like you're often working at night on boats in FL. After that 6 or more 10mm sockets short and deep, scattered around truck and in toolbox.
#tool I have a Milwaukee 2 in. Battery right angle grinder, with 2 in. Scotch brite pads it is fantastic for cleaning off gaskets and polishing up small parts. A real time saver and will slip right into that bag.The most important tool is a cresent wrench becase when all else fails...it works
Your tools cost more than my entire boat. 😁 You should start a school for outboard and general boat repair. Real world training. You may even be able to get a local community college on board.
10mm wrench and socket have got to be the most used and the most lost tool ever! I tend to be a pack rat and the tool bags don't really work for me. Hate bringing tools to a job because I'm always missing something. It is unbelievable all the tools it takes to get stuff done. Usually something totally random but makes a job faster and easier. Love this channel!
The most important tool is your Brain! Yes, really! And you really know how to use it!...thank you for all the knowledge you are willing to share with all of us. #Tools
#Tools The most helpful tools for outboards are any tools that get into tight places and save knuckles! For those of us that sometimes need to get something done at our mooring or slip.....floating tools would be great. Ask me how I know. Bet there are a half dozen 10mm sockets, wrenches, and the odd screw driver in the harbor under my boat!!😂
#Tools The important tool is the 3/8 adapter w/6” extention with the10mm socket . I think it depend on which kind of job you are doing like if you are doing fault finding a multimeter is a must have tool or a 100hr maintenance a flathead, filter clamp, 10mm, plug socket.
I know this is an older video, but...a LoadPro and PowerProbe4 are an indispensable addition to track down most electrical issues...both of which I got from the usual market places, at a huge discount mainly because these are considered a 1 job tool...both of these, paid for themselves (full price) the 1st time i used them...not kidding, no affiliations with either product
#tools The most important tool in this video has to be the 10mm socket. I work as a mechanical tech on pipelines and I'd say the most important tool I use are the two 8" adjustable wrenches I always keep in my back pocket.
This video couldnt have come at a better time. I'm getting ready to move back home to florida and I'll be doing service work at a boat shop. I have to say the impact is one of my most important #tools ! Something I use every single day and I also see you using it a lot as well. Thanks for showing me what tools I'll need to pick up here soon!
Congratulations @Jack Gonzalez you're this weeks contest winner! Shoot us an email to aaron@bornagainboating.com and we'll figure out which bag you want! Thank you for all your support and congrats!
I've been a successful Automotive and equipment mechanic for well over ten years. I feel like marine mechanics are more well respected and also in short supply. I am really looking forward into this year making the big steps in transitioning to working in the marine industry full time. What Certifications are required in the area you work in? I was told the ABYC certs are probably what i should start with, whats your thoughts brother? I enjoy your videos a lot, thanks for taking the time to do what you do for us.
Get a regular paint knife , have it cut done like you would a knife and it makes a perfect scraper , Emory cloth . Sand paper and sctoch Brite pads are a must as well , 85% of my marine experience was on diesels ..... 1% gas in board or outboard Rest on outboards . I could the 2/3 drive snappy that is the size of a 1/4 saves a lot of sockets to carry
I don't understand how you dont have 100k subs yet all the Information found here saves money and time Local from Tavernier FL keep up the great informative videos.
Most important tool - If this is framed as only having 1 tool, it would have to be a Crescent wrench. If it was the most used tool in a full took kit, it would have to be a medium head phillips screwdriver. If it's what we won't leave the dock without, both of those are included along with a socket set. But, clearly the most important tool is between our ears - planning ahead.
On a future video I would like to see what do you have on the shop tools box mainely to diagnose electric issues (like DVA's KV probe etc) and tools to desassemble lower units (like pullers or slide hammers etc) I build some of my tools as slide hammers to pull prop shafts/bearing carrier, washer claw wrench etc etc #tools
Exceptionally helpful to me as a junior Engineer. Thank you very much. May I ask what is the name of the zip ties with the hoop at the top please? Thank you.
No doubts a 10mm in any format is very important. Something to pry with like a flathead screwdriver and something to cut will get a person a long way on a boat! #Tools
Awesome video!!! I really enjoy seeing what each trade carries in their own tool bag or tool box. Do you have any updates? Maybe another video on what you now carry in the tool bag? Your tool box video was great too!!! Thanks for the videos. I recently found your channel and have been enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work.
#tools A full set of crescent wrenches in different shapes, angles and sizes is what I wind up using on my projects. Amazing how the "Golden" 10MM is always missing...
man you can do a workout session with your tool bag. 10mm socket and wrench have to be the most used tools, I know they are for me. keep up with the vids learning a lot thank you.
#Tools Time is money. When you think about what a sevice tech does, it’s very important to be able to manage your time. As a hobby, there are no time restraints. However, at a professional level, techs are expected to complete their work in a certain time period with a high level of accuracy. Having the right tools is essential to being able to do this. Thanks for another great video!!
Been waiting for this video. I work on Honda outboards and Detroit diesels more then anything. Once I'm out of the Coast Guard, you have my dream job. I couldn't be without the ratchet wrenches and the 3/8 drive sockets. My tool bag is a 5 gal. Bucket🤣 #tools
#tools can't go-to work without the 10mm of course. Throw together a video on recommended tools to keep on the boat. What specific tools you would keep for a Yamaha, a mercury, on the boat
#tools Never saw or even knew the Double Hinge Long Bent-Tip Needle-Nose Pliers existed >My buddy used to tell stories about doing Marine repairs in Florida and having to retrieve nasty stuff from compartments where the bilge-pump was . These would have been great for that ! #Tools
Did you ever once a week spray your tools with Teflon spray to prevent rust A 10 mm combination wrench and or 10mm socket w/wrench I did not see loctite adhesives and torque stripe
#tools. The most important tool is the person carrying the tool bag, other than that it is probably that little 1/4 driver with the socket holder at one end and the screw driver bit at the other,
What was the tool with 1/4" ratchet on one end and 1/4" bit holder on the other? Make and model #? Very cool video. I also really enjoyed your toolbox tour. Thanks for the videos.
#tools I’m going with oil filter wrench. Last service I did I didn’t have one and the job was a bear. Had tools for all the other stuff. Going to add one to my tool bag. The most important tool is the one you need for the job but just don’t have it at the moment!
#TOOLS has to be the swivel sockets and impact driver. Swivel sockets have saved me on more then 1 occasion in some tight spots. Impact cause it makes life so much easier love my impact driver.
I'm all about the 10mm #tools - but i've got to say, i struggled for hours until i borrowed (cant afford it, but i think its worth it) a snap on ratchet 8 point box wrench with pivoting head. without it i would never have been able to get the exhaust manifold off my isuzu diesel. the 16 point one i had just couldn't grab it.
#TOOLS. Nice video, I have about most of the tools you have. Scary lol. As for the 19 and 18 mm wrenches, keep them handy. Just used mine on my 2006 135 mercury verado to remove lower unit. 19 mm nuts and 18 mm bolt behind zinc plate. Keep making those great vids. Oh and almost forgot the most important tool is the bag to carry all that stuff in!
If you're a sausage finger guy like me those double pivot needle nose would be the most important tool. Second place would be the bag itself to carry all that crap around! #Tools
#TOOLS a lot of the tools we have seen being used in previous episodes. I have a lot of them for when I work on my boat😁. Hmmmm a lot of them are very important to pick one is extremely hard. But I would keep the ones you don’t really use just because I rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.
Most important tool is always the hammer... every day. Jokes. I love the dual action pliers. But number one tool for me would be the impact driver. I love the dewalt 12v one. Nice and small.
The most important tool I would say would be the vise grips because in a pinch if they’re bull nose you can pinch hoses, you can use the to change batteries, you and lock them on and wedge them against something to take of through bolts you can’t hold and in screw at the same time, and many more things. #TOOLS
Hmmm.... I would guess the most important tool is one of your 10mm tools. Maybe the 1/4” drive 10mm socket? For me it would be my “cheater” glasses cuz without them I couldn’t see a thing! Nice! I’m a master marine tech and carry a skimmed down version of yours.. getting older can’t carry all that stuff

#TOOLS I would say spanners. having a good set one can do quite different tasks on a boat. thanks for sharing your tool bag.
Actually the most useful video i have ever watched. Congratulations 👏👏👏

I think it is vise grips
one tool I didn't notice was a torque wrench, inch, and foot lbs. 10mm used a lot on mercury, love your site it's "awesome"!!.
On a future video I would like to see what do you have on the shop tools box mainely to diagnose electric issues (like DVA's KV probe etc) and tools to desassemble lower units (like pullers or slide hammers etc)

We might eventually do a tool box tour video, just haven't had the time to do it yet :)
The two most important tools for any mechanic knowledge & experience.with out either one you won’t get much done !!!
Exceptionally helpful to me as a junior Engineer. Thank you very much. May I ask what is the name of the zip ties with the hoop at the top please? Thank you.

10mm seems to be your goto. I like the line clamp. I could use that on cars as well as my boat.
The Impact Driver! Makes jobs go a lot faster! Great info as always! #Tools
The 3/8 driver that fits your impact, must have!! #tools
#Tools
#tools I always carry two smaller bags, not so heavy. One of my most important tools is a multimeter.
Did you ever once a week spray your tools with Teflon spray to prevent rust
A 10 mm combination wrench and or 10mm socket w/wrench
I did not see loctite adhesives and torque stripe
John Bladykas he had locktite
That Alabama socket set or as you called it the crescent wrench jk it’s the 10mm I have one on my keychain. #tools
#tools. The most important tool is the person carrying the tool bag, other than that it is probably that little 1/4 driver with the socket holder at one end and the screw driver bit at the other,
id say sparkplug sockets are important daily thing id use in that bag..of course a 10mm but I always like to start with compression.. #tools
Looks like that ten mil would be one of the most used #tools used! Thanks for the great content!
What was the tool with 1/4" ratchet on one end and 1/4" bit holder on the other? Make and model #? Very cool video. I also really enjoyed your toolbox tour. Thanks for the videos.

Most important?.. has to be that amazing claw hammer that's been passed down to you through the family over the years! #tools
#tools Defiantly the the sharpie. Never ending uses for them. Awesome video! See you next week.
#Tools swivel adapter can be a huge time saver in many places.
#Tools.....no. 2 screwdriver. Either one for the drill or hand held. Must of hit a cold spell down in Florida. Got on Jeans and a sweater.
In the 60's! Freezing :)
19mm is for your 3/4 bolts when your 3/4 wrench went missing 👍
Definitely the impact driver. Such a pain to loosen long bolts by hand. #tools
Most important tool is always the hammer... every day. Jokes. I love the dual action pliers. But number one tool for me would be the impact driver. I love the dewalt 12v one. Nice and small.
6 inch extension with a 10mil socket... golden. #tools
#TOOL The most important tool is the brain of the person caring the tool bag.
The battery driver gun it dose every thing! #tools
#tools the magnet is the most import tool 'cause a nut or a bolt always falls into those very hard to reach places.
Except when the nut or screw is stainless!
@@chiphill4856 And they always are on a boat lol.
the most important #tools in that bag is the 19 mill wrench its obviously in there for self defense
lol :)
The most important tool I would say would be the vise grips because in a pinch if they’re bull nose you can pinch hoses, you can use the to change batteries, you and lock them on and wedge them against something to take of through bolts you can’t hold and in screw at the same time, and many more things. #TOOLS

Out of all those. The camera so we can review repairs via this channel so we can fix our own! Thanks!
Oil filter wrench. I do lots of oil changes on a rental boat fleet for work. #TOOLS
10mm socket and wrench bin working on boats pro for 15+ years, can't see a day I don't use a 10mm
#tools I use the little pocket flatheads for all kinds of stuff. I probably have a dozen.
# tools I think the most important tool is a socket wrench great video also
#tools Many important tolls but I always carry a combo Phillips/flat head screw driver.
Crazy how the sun fadded the red Allen key holder.
Hey great video. I need to own some of those #tools. I will talk to the snap-on guy.
Thx. Watching from Ontario Canada 😊
Do you think u could use a 3/8 universal 14mm for outboard gearbox’s
#tools impact driver! Probably the bag, it carries all the tools.
#Tools
Most important, the camera stuff... So i can learn from your videos!
I’d say the impact. I use it on all of my 100 hour services and anything having to do with inside the boat. #tools
can you do a video about stering helm leaking oil
I would say the person using the tools, the tools are only as good as person that is using them. As always another great video. #tools
#tools
impact driver by far the most used tool for me!
#tools I would have to say the 3/8 drive socket and 10mm with a swivel extension
It looks like the 10 mm socket or wrench is the most used of your #Tools
Hmmm.... I would guess the most important tool is one of your 10mm tools. Maybe the 1/4” drive 10mm socket? For me it would be my “cheater” glasses cuz without them I couldn’t see a thing! I can see how having multiple setups of top combinations would make your service faster. I’ve never seen that but then I don’t make my living with #tools
All of my sanpy picks have broken .... they are vintage 2005 , get your snap on guy to hook me up
For me it is my prop wrench. I fish in Colorado and Saskatchewan. #Tools
Most important tool will always be the 10mm #tools
Hello, new subscriber here. Enjoyed the video... what is the name of the tool that you use to cut off the excessive part of a cable tie without leaving a sharp edge? Is it just a side cut plier or is there a specialty tool? Thank you.
It's just a pair of flush cutters. :) You can get a cheap set or an expensive set, but as long as you just use them for zip ties, they work phenomenal!
I think the tool bag, you need to get all the important tools to the boat.
#tools
Finding a multi meter very useful these days. #tools
Good morning..i wish i could have 1/3 of your knowledge and experience, then i could carry even a truck of tools ....😂
I’m not sure about you but I use my 10mm wrench more than any other tool. #tools
Mine would be a impact driver, great video #tools
I think the most important tool is probably your brain and all the knowledge you have in it. Probably the tool that is the most important in your bag is the 10mm ones. I appreciate your videos and the knowledge you share. #tools
Thank you!
#tools you can’t do your job without the right tools, thanks great video. Do you have a Harbor Freight down in the keys? Battery drill is a must have.
Right! Thank you! Nope, no harbor freight down here, I think there's one in homestead though :) (Like 2 hours away)
10mm you always need but actually they are all important for working on outboard I’m going to tech school to be a outboard machine and I’m sure my bag would definitely look like that😂 I like your video man #tools
