I thought I'd let Dash's fans know that he has continued to do very well in sports, all positively trained with food and toys. He is 3 years old and competes in obedience, rally, and agility. In the past two weekends, he got the following scores: 100/100 twice in rally; 194/200 and 196/200 in Open (intermediate) obedience; 100/100 four times in Masters agility. He is quite the little perfectionist. You can see his work ethic was apparent even at the young age he was in this video.
That just really highlights how amazing your relationship is with him and how happy he is! You've obviously got really clear communication with him and he's super bright! What an amazing duo!!
Dash says hi to Pico--great name! I thought it would be fun to have a group called Nano, Pico, Milli, and other metric small quantity names. You beat me to it. Have fun with your baby!
I just watched and stared in awe i have a papillon myself and i just looked at him and said "we need to teach you all of these tricks although you can barely drop a ball on command." haha :P and awesome job on teaching your dog!! he is AMAZINGGG :OOO
Very Nice. And the go out around all the furniture was more challenging than other go outs that I have seen. And I was really impressed with finding the keys. Little Dash had to really work for that one. Congratulations on his title. Well earned.
You are so welcome! Good luck with your new puppy! I've competed with ten dogs of eight breeds, and Papillons are my very favorite. Such sweet dogs with a "brain the size of a planet"!
Sorry for the late reply! I highly recommend the free positive training videos on the Kikopup TH-cam channel. Better than any book. Emily Larlham is an expert positive dog trainer and covers about 100 different topics, from solving behavior problems to doing cool circus tricks.
Congrats on your Pap's many accomplishments, Papillons are just the best! I have 4 & one in particular, Dillon (you can see him under Dillon Moonwalk on youtube ) is my worker/trickster. He's now retired from agility after getting his MACH3. They are just the very best!
Hello!!!Hope Dash is fine and still performing...Being the first TDCH papillon must have been quite a thrill. I love Dash's video...love him...his tricks are fun and interesting. Love From second papillon TDCH Medlee's Ruby Slippers(Glinda)
Hi Diana, please link to your video in the comments. I'd love to see it. My best to Glinda! And Dash is doing great, getting ready for a big stage performance in Feb '17 and working on his MACH agility title.
Who says Papillons aren't smart? Probably no one lol. They are universally considered as the smartest of miniature breeds, and recognized as ranking alongside the smartest of all dogs.
Hi I have a new Papillon puppy, a little girl. I’m encouraged by your video. What an awesome dog & trainer. I’m struggling with potty training. She does come and sit, I know she’s smart but she’s still going in the house even though we take her out and for walks. I love my Bonnie Blu. I have 3 books I purchased but I haven’t had success yet. How do you have success? Thank you
I like the book "How to Housetrain Your Dog in 7 Days." I also highly recommend going out with the puppy and giving food treats for going potty there. And when in the house, having the dog tethered to you so she can't wander away to go potty where you won't see it... or put the puppy in a crate if you need to leave the house in those early months. While at home, I use a timer so I don't forget and take them out every hour or whatever, gradually adding a bit of time each day.
weird thing,my pomeranian does the hiding-finding thing really really well but i never taught him to do it!one day i just decided to trick him and hide something and tell him to find it,and he just ran around looking everywhere like dash until he found it :) he has a huge problem on "come here" though
My papillon, Dobby, is a stubborn butthead. I also have a lot of roommates and it’s really hard to train a dog extensively in a multiple roommate situation. No matter what their influences are going to affect the training.
I know your pain. I wasn't able to do any serious training until I had a place of my own. Hope you can enjoy Dobby on his own merits though, despite not having a great training environment. :-)
Hi, So cute! I just adopted a 3 1/2 female Papillon and she always runs away when I stand up or try to touch her. I've only had her for 2 days how can I help her feel more at ease?
Wait a while before you try to touch her and pick her up. You have to let her get used to you. When I first got mine it took about a week or so for her to fully show her personality and get used to me.
+1991rabbi Yep, he's a purebred Papillon. He has a litter-brother and a half-brother who are AKC Grand Champions, and his father and litter-sister are AKC Champions. However, Dash is about 1-2" too tall to show successfully in conformation. I wanted a taller dog because they have fewer health issues than the microscopic dogs, including better teeth that don't fall out or need to be cleaned constantly by a vet.
I actually pet the dog almost non-stop, but not when we're making a submission video for a trick title. :-) Most dogs, especially high-drive dogs, don't like to be interrupted for petting when they are working. When a kid is excited and getting ready to open holiday presents, do you think they would choose to take a break and get a nice relaxing massage? :-)
What she said ... also a dog expert pointed out to me that "dogs are not primates." Assuming they want to be touched all the time causes a lot of problems between people and dogs. Dogs are ok with petting in some contexts, but in others it feels to them more like aggression.

A pap is happiest when they can use their brains and bodies, especially if it means praise from their companion humans.

His bark is so adorable.
Fantastic video and I love the relationship you two have!
Dash is a true Trick Dog Champion, EXCELLENT job! Love the handstand at a distance, skateboard, scent articles, and keys.
I love the way he tilts his head back when he heels.
I’m going to be getting one of these puppies so thank you for showing me how to train so well

Bravo ! He is so cute ;) You did a great job !
Incredible🐾, is there a book you could recommend that taught you how to train your dog?

I'm interested in Papillon lately, i'm so glad this video came to my algorithm🤍
I'm so glad! Did you get a Papillon yet? I've had many breeds, and for me this is my favorite ever.
AMAZING JOB
Been working with my Dobby who is a little over 13 months. He catches on very quickly once he understands what it is I want him to do.
I have a rescued Papillon and now, I only wish he could move like this. He's been throught some shit in his life...
Karie Hollingsworth Ours too. He is just now coming out of his shell. God knows what he has seen in his life. We are starting a training with him.
Awesome! No other word!

I with I'll try to upload Glinda videos soon...thanks for the response!
Dash is now an amateur circus dog and has performed for as many as 1,500 people. See his new blog at circus (dot) dog. No www's or com's needed.
👍👍👍👍
Wow, wonderful behaviors, Amazing work. Who says Pallions aren't smart. Love it!
MsBorderCollieLover - the 8th most intelligent breed I recently read :)

Dash is so smart and adorable! My dog Bolt also knows tricks, come stop by our channel if you would like :)
Notice she never actually pets the dog
