    Lets get this straight guys. Bodybuilding is one art or sport if you like. It's goal is to develop the muscles to an aesthetic form across the entire physique, and it attracts freaks who like freakishly big muscles. No serious body builder would ever get hurt by being called a freak, it would be a huge compliment. But that is their goal, to have a freakishly amazing physique, not punch people out, not run for days up and down mountains, not swing their bodies around in a fantastical display of strength and control as a gymnast. Conversely a fighter, a triathlon, a gymnast are not a bodybuilder. Stop comparing them like a bodybuilder is supposed to come in and run the show. A master of his art will always be better than any newcomer no matter how strong they are or whatever advantage they may seem to posses. If the gymnast went on stage with this guy he'd get smoked. I wish they would show the gymnast get down in this vid because I imagine he is probably very impressive. And for all the hate on the bodybuilder, you go try a muscle up on rings right the fuck now and see hoe you do. Props to both these athletes for their accomplishments.

    I value his meaning much more over all of you trolls stating one is better than the others, it's all biased opinions really.
    I for one, am impressed. i been a gymnast for 3 to 4 years, and those exercises are deffinitely not the easiest ones, if all the people commenting on this vid would actually try them, they would very soon discover that it actually is quite an achievement for someone with his training and weight.

    I think this brings a bit of light to gymnastics. People think they can walk in and do everything we do with no difficulty just because they have big muscles.This man struggled to master the most basic of skills and he has humongous arms. I don't think many realize that time is a major asset to being a gymnast. I myself have been in this sport for 11 years and practiced 20 hours a week since I was 11 and I'm only just reaching level 10. Those at olympic level have been doing near 40 hours a week since they were 10. It takes more than just strength; you need extreme spacial awareness, agility, control, a strong mind, and years and years of practice and I think people tend to forget that.

    To all you guys talking about how the bodybuilder is "not fit" or "not functional"... are you serious? That guy learned how to do a muscle up after going to a gymnasium once. Most people would take months to learn this move and thats assuming they already are in reasonably good shape. This guy just proved beyond any doubt that he is fit and athletic and "functional" whatever that means. There is no way he could have gained any strength or power in any part of his body during that one session which means that the only thing which was missing was the skill, the knowledge of how to perform a muscle up. And remember that by the time he got to attempting it for real his arms were already tired from all the exercise he had to do to learn the proper technique. Which means he was nowhere near his 100% when he did one. Not to mention at 92 kilos (thats a bit over 200 pounds).

      In the case of the muscle up I agree. But there are many other gymnastic skills that require a lot more mobility. The muscle up is primarily a strength exercise utilizing very limited, commonly trained (in a gym) ranges of motion.

      Indomitable Beard Well, if it is, people should be aware that this guy did REALLY admirably. He has gone with muscle ups and an demonstrated insane amount of relative strength for a bodybuilder right there. I am very impressed with the bodybuilder, considering how he did. Yet he looked still on the last edge of the natural side, when you go 120kg contest weight, test jacked to the maximum, this becomes impossible as well. But this guy, really nice.

    Muscle memory is everything. This guys muscles, although numerous and explosive, haven't learned to function in the world of gymnastics, thus will not cope.

    • @REASAND5
      @REASAND5 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      theres no such thing as muscle memory. The word youre looking for is either core strenght or the strenght of the stabilizing muscle.
      if you work on a machine you only have to push your weight, not balance it.
      on rings its even harder because they move around on their own. The bodybuilder has that wicked strength but hasnt had the need to build up the stabilizing muscles, therefore hes not good at managing the constant motion

    • @Samishii00
      @Samishii00 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not only that but he lack muscle's endurance, he have explosive stengh, wich is fine but not fit for "athlete activity".

      +Samishii00 since when is only having explosive strength, "not fit for athlete activity". What about Olympic weight lifters? Sprinters (running, cycling etc.)? Contact/collision sport players?? Power lifters? Strongmen? Are they not all athletes?

    • @Samishii00
      @Samishii00 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Frezzo First, can you please explain what is ( or exemple ) Contact/Collision sport and "strongmen" ( for the last one i have no idea what this is.. )
      Don't take me wrong, i never said Olympic not being athlete and i am not so knowladgable to know everything. I was talking more for people in general and the majority.
      Tho', i'm pretty sure explosive strengh is not the only strengh sprinter need.
      Even power lifter are more build to being athlete than a bodybuilder. I was talking about the "explosiveness" of a body builder here ;)

    • @apuuvah

      Functional muscle means "functional in normal everyday life!". Get it? People actuallu USED TO do physical labor...loggers, farmers, loading and unloading ships... Actually, people still do in many poor countries! They didn't have all that much muscle, but they looked rather muscular...they were lean and mean and could go on the WHOLE day!

    For as heavy as he is with 90'ish kilos and being a bodybuilder, he did quite good. I used to this in gym class 20 years ago and my advantage was I loved climbing trees (gave me some strength). However the lifts I could do only after 2 months (barely, form true) and half a year (repetitions, great form). I felt I can't develop enough strength (I am a skinny little prick) and gave up on the gym class :( Now I regret it, lol. Impressive

      Pretty much. This what I've noticed in modern day bodybuilding - get jacked and claim you're in "top shape" when they haven't worked on endurance or holistic body strength when met with a sport (check out vids on guys who are jacked, who get into fights or attempt to do MMA - they're get f'ed up and are winded easily).

    • @benoz11
      @benoz11 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      TickleMeElmo55
      To put it simply you don't train your throwing arm for soccer and you don't train your whole body strength and endurance to be a professional Body Builder, as it is focused on muscle size and shape almost exclusively. No-one can be the best at everything because there are specific training methods and goals for different sports. Becomes even more so when you consider the neuromuscular side of things, your nervous system gets programmed to know which muscles to use for movements you have done a thousand times. Being a good MMA fighter wont win you Bodybuilding competitions.

  • @ZR1KOH
    @ZR1KOH 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I did this before. Having spent 15 years doing bodybuilding and build up a descent amount of muscle and strength I can say having done the rings, it takes a whole other mindset. You are not only using muscle in a different way they have not been trained but also muscles you never train in the gym. All muscle groups must be trained to play together well and doing this trains them to do that. I struggled at doing this more than this guy did. THe work out though was amazing. Your body burns like never before in the gym, its in a different way. IT is really hard.

      These are not beach muscles. Definetlny. I know that compared to gymnastics (and really any other sport) bodybuilding is only look, not function, but bodybuilders have very high quality muslces. ***** Now some people say mma is the most athletic sport out there, and I would say out of the three (beach muscles, bodybuilder muscles, gymnast muscles, and even toughman/strongman muscles) I would bet on the gymnast muscles every time. Problem with these exercises is you are against your own bodyweight, so a scrawny lil guy with some strength will have an easier time than a huge body builder no matter how strong they are. All about power to weight ratio. Good effort here though.

    • @razzo086
      @razzo086 8 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      ***** What the hell are on about? He didn't call the gymnast a scrawny lil guy. He was saying a scrawny little guy with some strength or a bit of tone would have it easier than the bodybuilder since has so much more weight to lift. How did you come to the conclusion that he was taking about the gymnast. Why are would you call someone dumb when you are the person interpreting what he said in the wrong way

      +Mike Hunt These gymnasts are NOT 'scrawny'! Compared to Ty they may look that way but these guys up close- wow! I used to train 18 hours a week, 500 sit ups etc a day, I'd run, swim, do other sports and I never advanced to the highest level. As well as the correct strength to weight ratio, you need to be very smart and have a good knowledge of biomechanics, kinetic awareness, and a hell of a lot of courage and that was my major flaw: that and an absolute HATRED and dread of doing beam work (I'm female). Bars and vault- loved them, but when you fall on beam, man- you really feel it! I really like this guy Ty, and Alex- he's a great positive coach- and it's pretty clear Ty is most certainly NOT one of those stupid, lazy taking 'get results quick fix' idiots. Really enjoyed these 2 videos- I'd love to see Ty doing more gymnastics! Rings take incredible concentration as well as strength and are the hardest men's apparatus to master and he really did well.

    BB is for looks and makes you good at the gym routines your train at the gym...once you deviate from that and test your strength in other ways, the BB will lose in every category against those with training, whether its arm wrestling, gymnastics, martial arts, strongman etc...

    • @TheDiabethick

      fcastle The fact that they would lose to people who focus on a single area doesn't take away the fact that they have what it's needed to do very well in any strength competition. Because in my opinion all the strength sports only deviate from the same path when the person training reaches a very high level. What I mean is that a succesfull Bodybuilder would perform well in a strongman given some time to prepare. The same can be said to the strongman going to a bodybuilding competition.
      Or someone here has any doubts that Coleman would perform nicely in a strongman? just as much as Pudzianowski would do in bodybuilding.

    • @bws205
      @bws205 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well the focus is looks, that's the whole point, and whatever is the focus is what gets developed. Yes they gain strength, but that strength simply doesn't translate into many other areas....as shown in the video because there is training and technique. Can a BB hit a tennis ball faster than a tennis player? No. Can a BB beat an arm wrestler at AW just because he has huge ripped arms? No.

I like that the bodybuilder was open minded enough to try something like this and could see how it would benefit him. Awesome videos!
    Cut the "bodybuilders are useless" and "the bodybuilder would destroy the gymnast in a gym"
    Bodybuilders are very strong, but they are not as strong as someone who trains for strength. Most of them trains low weight, high reps, meaning they won't be able to lift huge weight. Sure, they will be strong, much stronger than those who don't lift full time, but they won't get near the strength of a power lifter or a strongman. Not even close. That's because they focus on looks, not power.
    On the other hand, a gymnast will focus on power, but not on looks. But since he does not have the same weightlifting rutine the bodybuilder has, he still won't be able to lift huge weigth. He will also be strong of course and lift big weights, but he won't be able to lift like a power lifter or strongman. However he will be incredibly good at what he does for a living, gymnastics. His balance is formidable, his technique is equally good, and his strength is great.
    They don't train to do the same, and thus the bodybuilder will look bigger and stronger than the gymnast, while in reality they will be pretty much equally strong. The only reason the bodybuilder can't swing around like that is technique and because he is heavier. He has the strength to do it.

    They're not athletes, it fake muscle, it not functional, yadda, yadda, yadda...
    It doesn't matter the sport or the functionality or how strong or even the look. What matters is their hearts and discipline. The determination to be the best. The long ass hours training. Getting up to train when that voice in your head tells you to stay in bed. Sustaining from comfort foods when everyone around is eating cookies. Busting your ass for years before cashing the first check.
    These bbs have the same fucking determination and work ethic as Tyson, Bruce Lee, Serena Williams, Luis Armstrong etc. They just chose muscle over gymnastics, racing, tennis, boxing, swimming, football, hockey or any other sport you can think of.
    If this bb chose to take that discipline to any other sport he could be great in that sport as well.
    Greatness doesn't come from the sport; it comes from the men and women who dedicate their lives to it.

      The problem is that success in professional bodybuilding is *largely* dependent on anabolic drug use... the training and "hard work" in the gym doesn't account for nearly as much as most people would imagine.
      Once you're at he top level competing against guys who are likewise genetically gifted, the real difference is what concoction of drugs and injections your body can tolerate long enough to win a show...
      Also, very few pro bodybuilders know anything about effective training...
      One would imagine their knowledge of training to be vast, since they have plenty of muscle size and ripped cuts to show for their work.
      But the truth is once most of them get in a gym, you see they just pump their way though workouts in a very un-inspiring fashion...
      If not for drugs, the vast majority of today's professional bodybuilders wouldn't achieve even *half* the development they have now.
      It's true that they have dedication and discipline... but ultimately it's a dedication and discipline for self-destruction though sky-high anabolic drug use and dangerous starvation diets needed to become "successful" on stage...

      dragonhailflower, it's actually true that the heavily muscled guys get winded sooner. its not that they have poor cardio is because it take more energy to fuel muscle. they get winded faster but also recover faster and that's when their cardio kicks in. Look up ufc Roy "big country" Nelson if you don't already know who he is. watch any fight were his opponent is heavily muscled and you'll see that the heavily muscled guy gets tired faster than Roy but he also recovered faster.
