I've made many multiples of Gnomes (usually with school craft clubs) and find this much easier and quicker--and I'm sure the cool glue could do just as well for the kiddos. Keep up the nice projects!!

@@theartsymathie If you have a fabric store nearby, you can ask for "Mongolian fur." It might be in the home decor section - it comes on large bolts (perfect for rugs).
Sometimes the craft stores have it, too. They will always have a variation of fur - brown, gray, white, and even colors. It just might not be the two-tone you see here.
But there is nothing stopping you from darkening the fur near the fabric with a sharpie... :)

You can use a wood round, a bead, a small pompom, or (what I used here) a polymer clay nose. Really, anything!

I just made my first Gnome and he is super cute. The only issue I had was with the faux fur...when I went to cut a piece for his mustache, the hair just kept falling out. What did I do wrong?

Is everything covered?
I might have a picture of the back on the website. For some of them, I have the exact same "face" duplicated so no matter which way it is hung or turns, you'll see a gnome.
Another set, my daughter and I used card stock to write "to and from" for the gift tags.
On yet another set, I covered the back with a piece of felt in the same color as the hat.
I hope that helps to give you an idea - I might have to reshoot this video. ;)
About how round in inches is the wooden circle you used? TFAI!
Over the years, we've used anything from 2 inches to 4 inches and they're all a good size for ornaments. If you're making one for a wreath, I'd try and find one just a bit bigger.

I got a pack on Amazon which had disks from 2 inches to 4 inches in diameter. The ones I made in this video are are 2.5 inches and 3 inches.

I love getting the fur and the wood rounds from Amazon - best prices I've found.
It's exactly what I was looking for except... why do you not finish the back? If I pick up this ornament, I would be truly disappointed. It's a shame.
You can absolutely finish the back with a piece of matching felt over the beard fabric. And that's the best part of crafting - you can take my idea and improve on it!
HELP ME!! What size is your pony bead did you use for the nose? Also what size for the red berries? I’m unable to go shopping, bc I have no legs and just going to Dr is a big production.
PaisleysMomma Schwendeman The good news is that you can use anything to decorate them. I honestly didn’t know there were different Pony bead sizes, but I’d say it’s about a quarter of an inch.
The tiny red beads are called seed beads - those are very, very small.
But if you have a sprig of something from a wreath or wreath pick, that would work, too.
Wonderful, but very pricey faux fur. Unfortunately, out of this old woman's budget. Thank you for sharing with us.
There are so many options. I purchased 1/8th of a yard and have used it for nearly a year (and I make a lot of gnomes).
Additionally, craft stores have oodles of different varieties of felt (starting at less than $5).
Finally, if you have white faux fur, you can use gray (and a little black) to color your own. I hope to do a tutorial on this soon.
I hope you find some that fits your budget. :)
I just bought some white fur fabric at Walmart. It was only $14/yard. I bought 1/2 yard to start out.
How big is the wood slice?
You can use any size, but mine were in a pack which varied between 2.5 and 4 inches.

I used everything from 2.5 inches to 4 inches. Because each hat is just measured around the wood, making these is pretty easy for most sizes (would not go smaller than 2 inches).

So why is the back part left undone? You know, where the wood shows, could it be that the gnome is bald? I really like the tutorial and how it was so easy to make but some how it didn't seem to be finished because of the back. Tell me he's bald and I'm good LOL. Great video, this is next years ornament I will be making for my family. Thank you.

We did leave some of them bald (LOL) in the back. On the ones we made as gifts (after I made this video), I added the same color felt to the back to cover up the edges of the faux fur.
You could put the faux fur all the way around the wood slice and add another nose on the back in case it gets turned around on the tree or a package, though. It would definitely look more finished.
That is a great idea about how to add more to the back.....maybe just a round piece or exactly like you said would work also. Thank you for letting me know these things. Sometimes it's better for the experts to guide those of us who are not. Thanks again!!!!

Thank you so much. I know you know this, but for others: you don't have to use this fur but... It can turn dollar store supplies into an elegant gnome. I have people emailing me saying they now sell them at a premium at craft shows just because the fur makes them look so nice.
As to where to find the fur... If you have a real fabric store (not a craft store), you can usually get small cuts of Mongolian fur there. It's usually in the home decor sections and it's on LARGE bolts.
Sometimes you can find it in small cuts on Etsy OR as tiny prop blankets if you search Mongolian fur. But, honestly, I've tried a couple of by-the-yard sellers on Etsy and the quality is not as nice. I haven't yet tried the prop sellers so I can't speak to the quality.
Finally, if you look at the link I put in the description (On Amazon), sometimes they have "suggested products" and you can see the prices on blankets, throws, and pillows there.

Can fabric be used as the hats instead of felt?
Crafting Chaos Yes, of course. If you want the hat to stand tall like this, I would recommend use interfacing to help give structure to the fabric.

I have a kitty pom pom pet but that's all. I think you could make one by making a little muzzle and pom pom nose!
But I can definitely put it on the agenda for after the holiday season.
Hi, what is the diameter of the wood piece?
Heidi, it doesn't matter what they are as each piece is cut to fit what you have. :) In my original package, some were 3-inches and some went up to 5, but the most recent packages has sizes as small as 2-inches.
It's just my personal opinion, but I think the 3-inch wood rounds are the best for these little gnome ornaments.

Sarah Olson We made quite a few of these and the wood slices varied from 2-4 inches because I initially purchased a variety pack.
This year, we’ve started making some for gift tags and are using the 2.4-2.8-inch wood round packs from Amazon.
What kind of fur was that and where did you get it please?
Pam Griffin It was called “Mongolian fur” when I found it at a fabric store in the rugs section. I know you can get it on Amazon, but it’s an entire yard, so I hunted it down locally.
I love it (it’s my favorite to work with) but also use the faux fur I get at Joann’s on the fabric bolts.
eBay has it in different sizes

okay not to be a mean person but the one thing that has always driven me crazy is when people refer to themselves as WE when there is one of you standing there.

I talk fast as well and being new to this myself I figured out pretty quick to watch one part, such as cutting the fur then stopping the video and even backing it up if I need to see a section again. Simple and easy to do. I don’t think anyone could keep up being a beginner 😊 just a tip! It’s so simple to stop and start without boring others. You are so easy to listen too and very thorough so hope this idea helps because I love the way you demonstrate and explain in “your own way” 😘 Boop! 🥰
