How to Make a Cone Gnome / Easy Christmas Gnome / Cone Gnome / No Sew Gnome / How to Braid Faux Fur

  • If you want to make a gnome for Christmas (or any other time of year), a no-sew cone gnome family is an easy DIY project which comes together quickly.
    A couple of years ago, I made this gnome family (Daddy gnome, Mommy gnome with braids, and a daughter gnome) for someone who is as equally enamored by gnomes as I am. I just realized I hadn't ever shared it!
    For those of you still reading, you might be as gnome-obsessed as I am. If so, just know you have found your people! You can get a TON more Christmas gnome projects here: rufflesandrain...
    Psst: if you go to the tutorial above and sign up for the newsletter, you will get an AMAZING gift!
    The critical supplies used in this craft*:
    Get the fur from Etsy here (small cuts, less expensive): rufflesandrain....
    Get the fur by the yard from Amazon here: amzn.to/2mXWH1X
    I have an entire gnome supplies list on Amazon if you would like to see the options for the cones, as well: www.amazon.com...

    Lovely, where did you find paper tones? Those styrofome cones are expensive.

    • @SarahNenniDaher
      @SarahNenniDaher  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The paper mache cones are in the craft stores right now (Hobby Lobby had a lot of them last week in varying sizes). If you can't find the cones, you can use the tree ones (just cut off the base - or leave it if you don't want them to stack).
      I order in larger quantities on Amazon though, mostly because I go through a lot of them with my tutorials.

    • @SarahNenniDaher
      @SarahNenniDaher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For these gnomes, I mentioned that I made them with clay (just rolled a circle and squished it down to make an oval). When I make many of my gnomes, however, I use wood beads or plastic beads in shades of skin tones.
      You can honestly use anything you have: beads, buttons, clay, pompoms, bottle caps, etc.

    • @SarahNenniDaher
      @SarahNenniDaher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I buy the paper mache cones from Amazon because they are less expensive, but craft stores usually start carrying them in September for the holiday season.
      The fabric is just some stuff available at Joann's - flannel for the plaid, felt for the fella's hat, and minky fabric in a light gray for the lady's hat.
      Honestly, this whole set (one of my all-time favorites) were some of the easiest to put together using what I had on hand. I hope you make them and LOVE them!
      If you do, pop me a pic or share them in the Facebook group. I love seeing everyone's creations.

      @@SarahNenniDaher Thank You very much for your quick response, Sarah and for your useful suggestions.
      I've wanted to make gnomes for a very long time and YOUR video was so straight forward easy that anyone could make them.
      These would make great gifts for Christmas! So I will be checking Amazon and local stores for supplies! Thank You again! It is so nice that you posted this in hopes of helping others and it is.
      I am glad I found your video. Will do on posting when done as Christmas nears.
      Have a good night and many more Happy Gnomes to you!!! 😊

    Where do you get that fur or whatever it’s called?
    Where can I get that cone?

      I get the cones on Amazon, though craft stores have them closer to the holidays. The fur is called "Mongolian" and is the 3-inch, frosted gray. I get it from Amazon. I think I have both of them on this list here so you can search: www.amazon.com/shop/rufflesandrain?listId=1FTNJ97JIJE57

      I put two options in the video description (small and full yard online orders). If you have a fabric store (not a craft store), you might find the long, Mongolian fur in the home decor / rug section.

      These are paper maché cones I picked up on Amazon but the craft stores get them in closer to the holidays. My stores always sell out.

    Why’d you cover up the furry hat with the felt? Just curious.

      On the Daddy gnome? I Just wanted to make them all look different, yet coordinated. If that's not right, let me know. :)

      Julie, I will link the page with the supplies (thank you for the reminder).
      The tall cones are 13.75 inches tall and the small is 4 inches. I got them on Amazon here*: amzn.to/330EQ9n
