Oh thank you very much haha I think we are a long way off that, if it ever happens to us that is. Yes I think there is often a lot of misunderstandings between countries.
I think too many people handle corporate affairs in the bank and have to wait for the people in the front. Usually personal business can be handled using mobile phones and ATMs.
I think your experiences with the admin stuff is because you're a foreigner. With a residence permit or an identity card, everything is a breeze and sometime self service. I'm not sure if you guys are eligible to get a residence permit, but if you can you should and you can use all those different kiosk machines or just use your phone to book stuff and do stuff through apps. You can't really enjoy the convenience of China without the card to be part of the system.
I'm surprised you mentioned patience in hospital, here in Australia the average waiting time in ER is 4hrs and I find most people are definitely more patient than I would expect
It's not the waiting time as I understand that, and actually the times I have been it's been pretty fast. It's more the going from desk to desk to pay different people and getting different tickets and the computers don't have all the information so you have to carry a notebook around with you for your records which seems a little old fashioned to me. It could just be the hospital we have been too but there was many frustrating times.
J W actually in the USA it’s worse , I don’t know U.K. , but compared with USA , China bank is Much more efficient even so much people wait in line , in the USA , even open a new account you have to wait 2 hour , they check everything about you , just 10000 US dollars.
In China's banks, you have to wait for a long time because they have so many customers, the staffs actually are pretty efficient. To avoid the long line, you may try to use machine which is common now. In the US' banks, I find usually I have to wait a longer time when openning an accout, because the procedure is more complex.

I don’t know about other country but UK to me feels like they are doing much better on the system while the staffs/process can be ‘slower’ than Chinese ones I experienced haha! It’s not simply because how many people are waiting to use the service and how long you need to wait for a response. Similar situation happens in hospital, everyone in chinese hospital are busy, doctors nurses and even patients. It’s true that this kind of situation is happening because they need to service soooo many people with limited hand. However it’s also due to the fact that the whole system is not perfectly efficient (Although making a appointment with doctor is easier recent years thanks to the online pre-booking system). You can buy some mosquito repellent spray call 六神,liushen,in the supermarket. It serves well for keeping away with the insect for 3-4 hours. Or you can light some mosquito repellent incense during filming. Mosquito lay eggs in the water,so better keep away from lake or river.
We were covered in it and kept stopping to reapply but it didn't work. Yes I think that was the problem, being close to the canal. Won't be doing that again!
I saw some Chinese disagree with the patience thing in the comments. Me as a Chinese, do agree like man I miss when I’m in China I can get a Visa card directly from a machine on site where here you need to wait at least for 7days and can’t personalize your pin! But I think nico is right too! They are foreigners and can’t speak fluent chinese, so I think things definitely can get tricky and frustrating for them~ good work nico!
Yes actually I was shocked at that it is good you can get a card straight away. I really think it is all down to if you are a citizen or not. For us it's much harder as we can't use the machines etc I imagine it would be the same in other countries for Chinese people also.
Yes, China excels in efficiency in many areas what other countries doesn’t and vice versa. For example here in Australia a simple construction projects takes years where in China it only takes a few months. And post within the same city sometimes takes a week or so where as in China you get your orders from across the entire country within 2 days. But as Nico mentioned and from my personal experience, being a foreigner in China does complicate thing a bit. There indeed are a lot of strict and redundant policies, protocols and procedures required on the admin side. Which I can understand, with a society of 1.4b people, the complexity of it must be mind boggling. But I think as the society and technology matures, things will improve.
Everything will be better.education entertainment life quality and so on.but everybody still need to work harder.and all people around the world out to understand and respect each other
if you want to avoid mosquitoes, wearing dark colored clothings is about the worst thing that you can do...and if you're wearing shorts, you are really asking for it. Haha..Try wearing lighter colored shirts, and put on perfumes. Mosquitoes are attracted to your natural smell and body heat. if you wear perfumes, that kinda mask some of your smell and put them off.
Hi Nicole China is so big actually if you go to different banks in different cities you may get totally different experience. Honestly i also got some very bad experience as you did which made me very angry before but sometimes I also can get very fast and good experience as well as amazing bank services in different bank or different bank in different cities so it is hard to say old or new bad or good ,even the bank working staff you meet also would be totally different.:)
I really love this beautiful park! But it was painful to see you guys squirming from the mosquitoes! Why don't you guys apply some anti-mosquito gel on you face and body. They do sell it in the shops in China I believe. We have it here in Malaysia. The gel is harmless to the body but keeps the pest away. Very interesting discussion though. The things you covered will surely be of help to those who plan to go work in China or stay there for a while. Cheerio!

Hi Guys, I have been subscribed your channel for a while now. About to move to a city that you had been living NJ. I am sorry if this seems so so irrelevant but can you get cod fish in NJ ? I have seafood allergy but can have salmon and Cod Many thanks
It's traditional Chinese medical theory , which is why we drink hot water a lot. Hot water stands for Yang, when somebody is sick or dying, his body's Yin-Yang is out of balance, usually lack of Yang, so having some hot water will keep the balance.
China is not an immigration country, so services for foreigners are not well designed. If you go to a bank in the US, UK or Canada, the bankers surely knows what documents and procedures required for foreign citizens with different visa types. In China, especially branches that few foreigners visit, bankers have no idea what to do with foreign customers. There are a lot of restrictions in the bank system and they need to be very cautious about it. It may take hours to confirm with the supervisors or HQs for services with foreigners.
That's right. Mainly because of language barrier, they can't explain more information to you. The details that need to be confirmed are also very cautious. Perhaps not everyone has similar experience in handling foreign affairs. Moreover, hospitals and banks are places that require a very meticulous working attitude. These places are often very busy, with a lot of people, and need to spend more time waiting.
Just want to make a quick comment on the huge efficiency gap you see in different sectors. Banks, hospitals, and universities are considered 'public service' and many of them are run by the government. We used to call jobs at those places 'iron bowl jobs' because these are very very secure jobs and people who got the job will never get fired. This creates no incentive for improvement. Even there are many passionate young employees who want to make things better, their lazy old superior would turn down those ideas. Fortunately, these people are retiring and many of these traditionally `public service ' sectors begin to restructure the hiring rule so it is no longer 'guaranteed for life'.
Until 1980s or even 1990s saying "You seem to gain weight recently" was a compliment for older generations. It was a way to say you are healthy or you are having a nice life. Obesity was not a thing in those old days in China. How would young foreigners figure that out? :-)
most banks are government owned, but while a lot of private banks and internet banks are coming, government banks will change otherwise they will get out of business in some areas
That people are better off without labels. In places where our education, our family names becomes irrelevant, we are just human and the Chinese can be so accepting of strange people. Chinese people in places with zero foreigners can be so kind and naive too. It helps to be not too analytic. To not study the Chinese and just see them the way they see foreigners, beautiful humans.
In the past my Mother said to me "you are looking healthy" aka you gained weight. :-) I am British. The Chinese, I think have a similar mind set to concern/noticing appearance.
We see telling somebody that he/she got some weight as a daily greeting and we actually don't matter with that, sometimes we feel happy if you tell me got a little fat. And we young generation seems more and more opened and direct to tell boss that we disagree with them. China's culture traditionally has same respect and saving face for elder people. We are improving it and that will be benefit for a opening society.
All the women in China are so slim so they probably don't mind haha Yes sometimes these things develop in generations and so the younger generation might work differently.
Like I said at the beginning we were covered in it but they were savage! haha we even stopped after every point to re apply. Won't be filming there again!
Ahahahaha, definitely, the hot water is the most amazing thing in this world. As a Chinese girl, I still remember how shocked i was when my mom told me that hot water make me feel cooler in summer.
I grew up in China but have never heard about hot water curing mosquito bites LOL. BTW, you don't have to be so hesitant in criticizing people cutting in line. I hate it when someone does that.
I have not been to banks for years, because I can do all my business on my phone. Probably you are a foreigner so it takes a lot effort for you to use the bank services.
Goodness... I can't stand mosquitos, so you guys are very patient If I were you, I would away bring mosquito repellent with me; and perhaps report to the authorities about mosquito problems because it's mosquitoes that spread diseases to many areas in the world

Thanks! Yes exactly fundamentally we are all the same but we all have a few quirks that are interesting to learn about.
Have either of you studied the analects of Confucius and will it help someone navigate China’s culture?
But I think as the society and technology matures, things will improve.
watching u guys sitting there and moving ur arms to keep mosquitos away. felt itching from my screen already😂
haha i know it was the worst I've ever been bitten.
I’m now itching for you both.... that looks like a torturous place to sit. Very interesting video though, thanks for the insights.
haha I know, we won't be going there again! Thanks for watching!
So true about the hot water, I always use hot water to cure my throat. It works!
Hot water is life!
Everything will be better.education entertainment life quality and so on.but everybody still need to work harder.and all people around the world out to understand and respect each other
that kid and her father just run away !! so cute !!!
OMG I know it was SO cute I didn't even know until we edited it. They even gave us some more spray as they saw us scratching. So nice!
if you want to avoid mosquitoes, wearing dark colored clothings is about the worst thing that you can do...and if you're wearing shorts, you are really asking for it. Haha..Try wearing lighter colored shirts, and put on perfumes. Mosquitoes are attracted to your natural smell and body heat. if you wear perfumes, that kinda mask some of your smell and put them off.
Yeah I actually didn't know this about the dark clothing I was just trying to hide the sweat haha
Jack's red socks are so cute
He has the best sock game!
Where is the canal?
Good content! By the way, is it now OK to travel to other cities in China from Beijing?
I really love this beautiful park! But it was painful to see you guys squirming from the mosquitoes! Why don't you guys apply some anti-mosquito gel on you face and body. They do sell it in the shops in China I believe. We have it here in Malaysia. The gel is harmless to the body but keeps the pest away. Very interesting discussion though. The things you covered will surely be of help to those who plan to go work in China or stay there for a while. Cheerio!
We were covered in it. We even stopped after every point to re apply. They were SAVAGE! haha We certainly won't be filming there in summer again, I still have the scars haha Thank you very much! Well if you think of anything you want us to discuss let me know.
@@Nicofilms Poor things you guy! If the gel is not effective don't film in the park then. I can even see the mosquitoes swarming over the river.!Be careful. Mosquitoes can cause dengue! Here over in Malaysia there are dengue cases every year, usually around July-Oct. Mosquitoes are a pest evolution or god negligently overlooked hehehe.......
@@omni3670 This was the worst we have experienced it. We won't be doing it again that is for sure! haha yeah, I don't understand them at all.
So glad you guys only drank the hot water rather than landing in some! :D
hahahaha! Brilliant!
everytime i do admin tasks here i cry of frustration lolll.. but a simple bubble tea will cheer me up in no time
haha this is a great way to treat yourself after, I think I will start to do the same! And yes all the feels I have definitely cried in the bank a few times haha
Awesome, I think you should make all videos as a couple on screen.
haha thanks but then who would film our videos and awesome b roll?
Like you guys’ honesty. That “hot water” topic made me laugh tho.😂
And finally please remember to take the mosquito repellent with yourself while going out in Summer.🍻
Hot water is life! We were covered in it but it didn't make a difference! haha
So pro!!
Thank you very much!
Hi Guys, I have been subscribed your channel for a while now. About to move to a city that you had been living NJ. I am sorry if this seems so so irrelevant but can you get cod fish in NJ ? I have seafood allergy but can have salmon and Cod Many thanks
Yes, you can find cod fish and salmon in NJ. Stop and Shop. H-Mart.
I have no idea as we don't buy fish sorry, but I would assume so!
Hot water, : ) you are totally correct! Happy, hot water! Unhappy, hot water.
Right?! haha
I think the language barrier is the most important point... But I believe it will improve maybe in my generation.
What about local people staring foreigner!? Even children say mom look foreigner, taking pictures /wanting to take selfie 🤳 kind of thing!?
As a Chinese, thank you very much for saying the truth. I don't know if this is a kind of sadness.
seriously, did hot water really cure all of those u mentions ?? (minus mosquito bite of course)
It's a joke. More like a placebo.
@@alexyang8238 hahaha... u ruin my cheap "medicine" (i don't care if it's a placebo or not :p ) J/K
Apparently so! haha
It's traditional Chinese medical theory , which is why we drink hot water a lot. Hot water stands for Yang, when somebody is sick or dying, his body's Yin-Yang is out of balance, usually lack of Yang, so having some hot water will keep the balance.
Thanks for the detailed explanation!
I completely agree, I imagine it is because we are foreign and I'm sure it would be the same in any country where you weren't a citizen.
How long do you think you will stay in Beijing?
I just signed a contract for another year so at least until next summer!
@@Nicofilms I wish u can stay longer. Love your vedios and hope u r happy in China.☺️
@@yueyinggong9344 Thank you very much! Even if we leave we will still come back every year to travel and make videos.
state enterprise are still less efficient than private enterpris in some respects, it's relative.
We always take what we are used to as correct. For example, nobody in Thailand says durian smells bad. Think about it. Why?
The willow behind you guys is so beautiful
Suzhou,it is a sweet city🌹
多喝热水
You two were chatting while the mosquitos were enjoying the feast... again...
haha literally on my face! It was the same day don't worry we weren't stupid enough to go back a second time haha
That is true, the bank is not efficient compare to western countries. Hope it will change soon
I hope so, it is probably as we are foreign so as China opens up more it will probably improve. It is such a contrast to other aspects of life here.
哈哈哈,多喝热水!
You should take a mosquito spray, haha
Mate watching you two itch is making feel like the mosquitos came through my screen. 😔 I need to send help for you.
hahahah it was SAVAGE!
Banking is the worst part. Chinese banks are more conservative which is a good thing though.
Admin in a foreign country just takes so much longer.
In the past my Mother said to me "you are looking healthy" aka you gained weight. :-) I am British. The Chinese, I think have a similar mind set to concern/noticing appearance.
hahaha this is true. A little less direct I guess haha
I see you guys just couldn't stop scratching 🤣, maybe use some Insect Repellent Sprays next time
Like I said at the beginning we were covered in it but they were savage! haha we even stopped after every point to re apply. Won't be filming there again!
@The Mythbuster hahaha we take one for the team!
❤
Ahahahaha, definitely, the hot water is the most amazing thing in this world. As a Chinese girl, I still remember how shocked i was when my mom told me that hot water make me feel cooler in summer.
hahaha I still don't think it does but it is the answer to everything here!
I grew up in China but have never heard about hot water curing mosquito bites LOL. BTW, you don't have to be so hesitant in criticizing people cutting in line. I hate it when someone does that.
haha it was a joke I don't think it does. Yeah it really annoys me too!
I have not been to banks for years, because I can do all my business on my phone. Probably you are a foreigner so it takes a lot effort for you to use the bank services.
Oh that would be the dream! haha yes probably. I imagine it is the same in any country where are not a local.
I can see you guys are shaking off the mosquitoes, haha 😅
they were on my face! haha
There were so many mosquitoes around you guys😂
I know, we won't be going there again!
Looking at the thumbnail, I was like, why are you still there feeding mosquito? lol
4 mins after watching I feel itchy....
Yeah we did it the same day we weren't stupid enough to go back.
Goodness... I can't stand mosquitos, so you guys are very patient
If I were you, I would away bring mosquito repellent with me; and perhaps report to the authorities about mosquito problems because it's mosquitoes that spread diseases to many areas in the world
We had so much spray on, we kept stopping to apply more. These guys were savage!
@@Nicofilms Just found out that something has been done to the mosquito transmitted disease problem in southern China, hope people can do something at the northern area too. You guys take care!

Bring six god to the park next time you film there 😂😂
六神,SIX GOD什么鬼?哈哈哈
👍👍👍👍
It seems like you two love bird were singing karaoke in the open park with bit hip-hop style hand gesture when I have to mute it for about 2mins to find out there is a possum was making baby crying noise outside my window.
hahaha how did you know that was our karaoke jam!
cutting in lines seem to be an Asian thing...it happens all the time ....in my country, people cut in lines for transportation and other stuff..
各處鄉村各處例,尊仲和包容彼此文化差異。
Exactly!
Beijing Jade River
i can feel the mosquitoes lol
They were SAVAGE!
