    I find it interesting here in comment sections, Thai folks neither praise themselve nor talk negatively about Vietnam in order to make themselve look better while some of Vietnamese in comment sections here already provided some incorrect info like they know everything about Thailand lol. Well that kinda attitude may change overtime. I think most of Thai people seeing foreigner as their guests thus you may find Thai people helpful and that's in their nature.

It's funny that halfway through this video when you stopped to take shelter from the rain you said 'Mua' to the people.. because I said the EXACT same thing to people on the street whenever it was raining too haha

    Saigon is my go to city in S E Asia. Previously it was Chiang Mai so I think I can give a reasonably informed subjective opinion. I was very surprised you bemoaned the lack of parkland in Saigon. I would argue the opposite and and say that Bangkok is more of a concrete jungle than Saigon. I believe district one benefits to a large degree from the French colonial legacy. They do have style in France. They also have decent coffee and bread. Yes it is frustrating that the metro still hasn't opned in HCMC but Grab bikes there are so cheap and convenient they make up for an inadequate public transport system. I took a moto taxi in Bangkok once and it was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. Agree with you about the food in both countries and would just give Vietnam the edge there. Saftey line ball as I've never felt in danger ineither countries.

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Grab is a great option in Vietnam for sure.The traffic does get pretty snarled up here though, I think the metro should hopefully help alleviate that to at least some degree. I was really impressed with the new Benchakitti park in BK, it's huge, has bike lanes and is very well looked after.

Most foreigners have to leave the country for a day or so & return for another month or 2-3. So these two countries nicely compliment each other. Bankok, DaNang, Chaing Mai, Saigon...The beach at DaNang gets the lion's share of the benefit of living there. As you well know. Envy you're beach side ebike treks. Boldly go my man!

    As a Vietnamese born in small village, living in HCMc for 10 years and went to Thailand/Bangkok mutiple times I'd say your points are fair. The no.1 reason why I keep coming back to Thailand is the price (cheaper hotel, food, clothes, other entertainment) with better services. The second reason is that I can walk up to 20km per day in Thailand especially in smaller cities / villages but not anywhere in Vietnam, it's also a shame that metro in HCMc is still under construction (but yes, all Thai fellows drive and ride like crazyyy). Thai and Viet people are all nice, the Thais are more reserved and Viets are more out-going, and I can enjoy both while travelling which is a plus for both. If there's something to complain I think the view especially beaches in Thailand are a bit overrated (or it must be because Vietnam has looooong coastline with many good beaches, not to mention outstanding views up North), and you can easily get ripped off in Vietnam (which never happen to me when I'm in Thailand, or is it because the prices are all reasonable so I don't feel it? lol).

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your reasons are exactly the same as mine. I love walking so even in Bangkok i can walk around much more easily then HCMC. I also think accommodation is much better value in Thailand for renting compared to here. I hope that they make Hanoi/HCM more walkable soon otherwise people just wont want to use the metro when it finally opens.

    Vietnam could be nice. Good pay, great food, pretty women, etc. But I honestly don't want to be on the back of a motorbike in 90-degree (32-ish C?) weather, traveling to 3-4 different schools. If I can find a place that's walking distance to a school, a mall, and a gym, I'd be set.

    It depends on one's preference. For me HCM or Vietnam in general is better because of 1 the food 2 landscape 3 people 4 the future. I'm from the U.S. and have eaten both types of food many times. I found Vietnamese food much more flavorful and health conscious compared with Thai food. I only have a few favorite Thai dishes compared with the many dishes of Vietnamese food. I have both Vietnamese and Thai friends here but I have been invited to the Vietnam friends' houses a lot to celebrate. I haven't experienced that with my Thai friends. I'm American, and I intend to live in the U.S. for now. That said, Vietnam is my preference. I seriously think Vietnam will be growing a lot economically compared to Thailand in the very near future. In fact it has already happened based on the GDP growth rate. Thanks for the info. Subscribed.

      Yes, i believe Thai GDP forecast is much lower than Vietnam, although once they get their tourists back it'll be up again perhaps. Based on my experience, I'm touched the most by the generosity of the Vietnamese people. Now that doesn't mean all the Vietnamese people are down to earth.

      @@expatnam Thailand has nearly 100 years living in peace for economic development, but has grown too slowly. Vietnam has grown too fast within 22 years since 2000. In 1995, the US removed the partial embargo, in 2000 officially removed completely the embargo. GDP VN 1992 (embargo time) is only 97 USD / person even lower than the poorest country in Africa, Tanzania 257 USD / person. Currently, Vietnam's GDP has more than 4,000 USD/person to surpass the Philippines and approach Thailand. Nearly 90% of Thailand economy is almost controlled by 10% of wealthy Chinese. Former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin and her younger sister currently live in Guangxi, China. The entire Thailand economy focused on investing only in Bangkok. Infrastructure in many rural areas and other cities have been invested very little or ignored for many years. In contrast, in Vietnam, infrastructure is built and invested at the same time in many cities such as Ha Noi, Hochiminh, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Bac Ninh, Ha Long. The infrastructure in rural area of Vietnam is also built and invested very fast including asphalt concrete roads, electricity, 4G internet and clean water systems. Which, of course, there will be people who don't have good intentions mixed in, but it may be a difficult process. It doesn't take much time. Time to enter the country. As for using wifi as well, Thailand is an open country. there will be a crime Foreigners come in by using social media to commit illegal activities. I think Vietnam will soon act like Thailand. It's true that studying in Thailand Foreign teachers coming to teach their salaries may be less. There are many foreign teachers coming to teach. So it's a huge choice. In the minds of some foreigners, knowing English will make people in the country smarter. If it's true, then in Japan, few people know English, but the country can still go. India and the Philippines are countries with a large population of English speakers. Prosperity is not different from Thailand. medical thailand It is accepted around the world . Tourists or foreigners Don't worry about the cost of treatment. Because entering Thailand There are various insurances. my personal pref on food is much better and cheaper in Thailand, the varieties is so huge wether in different country choices options or culture options while Vietnam is similar but less options especially if you appreciated food from the Persian route.
    Vietnam is a beautiful country but in term of a tourism platform for traveling and holiday maker then it is unfortunately at the moment no where near to the quality that you could get in Thailand. However, having said that the nature resources in Vietnam seemed to be richer as the country did not have the infrastructure advancement like Thailand or Bangkok. I think this might be because of the past war within the country. This mean great if you wanted to travel and appreciate different natural geographical features. As for culture both Thailand and Vietnam is very distinctive from one another and because where Vietnamese is especially up north you will feel that they are more Chinese heritage than the Thai Chinese in Thailand. So this come down to the purpose of your traveling. Though for beach type holiday for me then Thailand is a definite winner as they have the advantage of two seas, the inner South China Sea and the South Indian Ocean running along the southern part which gave different feeling altogether between the east and west side but in one country. Visited Vietnam and their beaches just Before Covid but dammed..there were so much rubbish on the beach that take away the beachy holiday appreciation. My tourist perspective is that Rubbish problem in Vietnam need sorting out so travelers can really get to see the true beauty of the Vietnamese beaches. As for Thailand the taxi fares in Phuket and Samui is ridiculously expensive and there should be a standard charge setup that is fair for tourist not just for the local.

    Nice job comparing the two, unless my job requires that I reside in Saigon or in Bangkok . I would not choose to live in either places. In Vietnam, I would live in Dalat or less denser and cooler climate,.Thailand maybe in Koh Samui or one of the smaller Island.

    Thailand is divided into 76 provinces. And in every province, there are attractions in every area. In each province throughout Thailand, there are many developments in tourism and technology. Don't focus only on Bangkok, secondary cities around Bangkok such as Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan. These secondary cities are all developed more than secondary cities in Vietnam. Throughout the country, we have attractions and technology to support all foreigners. and the part that is not developed, Thailand wants to maintain Education tourism for various ethnic groups, and of course, Thailand ranks higher in all aspects than Vietnam. while Vietnam ranks the last among ASEAN. Let the world make decisions because of what they have experienced themselves. That's a good answer and should be used to improve your country's development. Thailand has never looked down or hated any country in the world. But Thailand has been despised and hated by the Vietnamese because of their lack of knowledge about Thailand.

    One issue for some people is foreigner/expat quality. Thailand has plenty of great farang, yet also a larger percentage of psycho, shallow, dumb, violent, lazy, anti-social, racist, ignorant, or boring as hell foreigners than most countries in Asia. Fairly avoidable even if you live in a big city, but not completely. And I am not even knocking Thailand for being that way, somewhere is gonna be the leader at super easy-mode expat life, and that's a positive, it just comes with some trade-offs.

    • @expatnam

    Thailand has had 100 years of independence, while Vietnam has only been completely independent since 1975, 48 years by 2022. However, with twice the amount of time, it seems that the rate of development of Thailand has slowed down.
    GDP Year 2020 (person)
    - Thailand 7189usd/p
    - Vietnam 2785usd/p
    -> 2.58 times.
    GDP 2022 (person)
    expected
    - Thailand 7300usd/p
    - Vietnam 4200usd/p
    -> 1.7 times.
    In just 2 years, Thailand's GDP has only increased by about $120. This shows that Thailand's economy is slowing down, probably caused by the covid pandemic and the instability of the country's leadership.
    As for Vietnam, also 2 years, but gdp increased by more than 1500$. I am Vietnamese, in my opinion, this speed is just a sign of "storm", because the infrastructure in Vietnam (considered perfect) is only about 10% completed. There are many other unfinished projects. In my opinion, about 10 years from now (or maybe 2030), Vietnam GDP will surpass Thailand, especially big company corporations in the world tend to move to Vietnam.
    Sorry for my bad english!

    This: Unless you've actually got a legitimate job, why an earth would anyone in their right mind want to live in either of those chaotic, crowded, traffic congested and steamy rat races. Seriously, apart from the night life action, what's the attraction of either cities? If you're on vacation then it can seem exciting but live in either place for long enough and they become boring and stressful. Phuket and Chiang Mai are far better choices in Thailand. Da Nang is a better choice in Vietnam.

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think work is the over-riding factor for most people. I like Da nang and have lived there before and hope to again in the future. Cities like Bangkok and Saigon are great when you're young imo, but for sure the novelty can wear off over time. Big city life does have a convenience factor, but there's the trade off in regards to things like pollution, stress levels etc.
