@Zaydan Alfariz yes but if opposition won more than 375 of seats in house of representatives military doesn’t have power to do anythings and they don’t want to stage a coup now because Thai political landscape change so much in past 9 years and 80% of people are anti-military coup or junta , so if they stage a coup the chances that the country will collapse into a civil war are very high.

Congratulations you're finally getting Kılıçdaroğlu's name right. Something I noticed during the 2015 rerun parliamentary election after the first returned a hung parliament - if you breakdown the vote by province - then the swings to the AKP were spectacularly uneven, but frequently just enough to pick up one more MP in that particular province. If they needed 1% more votes to gain an MP, they got 1%, if they needed 12 % they got 12 % Funny that ....

I don't have the spreadsheet any more but it could be easily replicated.

if Erdogan finds a chance to rig the election he definitely will try..but as an opposition, we have experienced so much about possible loopholes in the system..just main opposition party CHP assigned 200k people to monitor the voting process..with the NGOs and other opposition parties almost 500k people assigned..since Turkish election system is not digital it's also hard to make a "digital" adjustments..so if the opposition be careful it's nearly impossible to rig the election for Erdogan, like in 2019 local elections.
Probably they will try to focus "earthquake zone". they can try to give votes for "unofficial deads" in the earthquakes.
and also when you are talking about turkish elections, remember that we're not either russia or china..we have strong election history and also people love voting and watching pie charts at election nights :)

I have watched several videos of yours regarding Turkey and I want to help you out with some of the pronunciation as they come up pretty often. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is pronounced with the "c" in Recep like "j" in jet, instead of an "s" sound like in "sea". It would also sound more appropriate if you let the "g" sound out as the letter "ğ" is a softer version of g, I suggest reading it as "Erdoan" with an emphasis on "-an". The opposition leader's name also has the same letter therefore I would suggest doing the same and reading it as "Kilichdaroulu" and İmamoğlu as "İmamoulu"

Nice coverage. By the way, there is a large margin between Kilicdaroglu and Erdogan in Kilicdaroglu's favour but Erdogan can use his judicial influence to deny Kilicdaroglu's first round victory if Kilicdaroglu only passes the threshold by a slight margin. But this will cause many issues for Erdogan and will ultimately lead his failure in the second round against Kilicdaroglu as the past Istanbul election experience suggests. The gap was heavily increased in Imamoglu's favour when the election result was denied by Erdogan's government. They had to leave Istanbul at the hands of Imamoglu. Otherwise, at least half portion of the Turkish people who supports the opposition might have mobilized to form street protests. Erdogan's regime is still not Iran, North Korea or Russia. They do not have sufficient legitimate tools to suppress a victorious and legitimate opposition and its overwhelming mass support.

One very important point Westerners cant understand: Erdogan does not ban pro-Kurdish party because he is anti-minority, he targets HDP specifically beacuse they are not cooperating with him. He and his party are saying things like ''they are not Kurds, they do not represent Kurds''. HDP's current ties with PKK also helps this propaganda with both Turks and Kurds. Erdogan is one of the most pragmatic politicians ever, he can ally or defend any politician as long as it helps his agenda. When he lost his connection to HDP, he suffered hard times with no allies(2014-2016). Since then he is allied to both nationalists(MHP) and much more smaller but also radical-islamist pro-Kurdish party.(HÜDAPAR)
One point to prove this: Despite Kurds being around 20% of Turkey, the pro-Kurdish party can only get around %11 of the votes in election. The other Kurdish votes does not go to centre-left opposition, but Erdogan. This might change a little bit in this election.

Honestly, I work a lot with companies in Turkey and I always get this confused. Turkish might be the single most confusing of the Latin languages for someone uninitiated. So many letters don't sound how you think they should sound. Of course, no offense to anyone who is Turkish. This is just something I have noticed.

@@mattbenz99 In Turkish regardless of in what part of a word or a phrase etc they're in every letter is read in the same way as in any other case (1 way to read a letter: It's phonetic). The only reason let's say the English language natives get confused when trying to read in such phonetic languages is they expect to memorize the sounds of the words/phrases, rather than just the alphabet. So in a sense English etc are the ones with a disconnection between the sounds of the letters and the writings of the letters (as a specific example the modern/internationally used English isn't too bad but still).
So yeah, don't worry, it's equally confusing for the Turkish language natives to learn the quirks & features of the English language which suffers from the said disconnect of the sounds vs the writings of the letters in various words/phrases. :D

About $300,000Y, and it's based off merit, but the fact that it pays well, people who are higher academic representatives of the bar, and, this is determined by GPA in law school or whether they have a Master's degree in law, additional education, particularly in the related area of the law which the court is formed to hear disputes of, for instance, it may be prudent to have a family law master's program, one or two years of additional education, and the graduates of these programs have to qualifications to sit as judges in family law courts, and it's a good thing to do as a law school graduate because the salary is as good as a partner in a decent sized firm. For instance, if you have experience litigating family law cases and you did not make partner, you may go back to school and then get to be the judge in the family law court and make the same amount of money in the same area of law. So, I'm not interested in judges thinking they are judges when they are really politicians.
I tell you what I think it means. It means that this is the most successful democratic muslim country. There are people who know that they have limited media, and the vote and the determination of the Turks, will be to vote for less media or more. The people who support Erdogan agree with him theoretically, the issue is that his theory is flawed and they aren't allow to realize the flaws of his theory. In TR, there is a transparent election system. Every ballot from counting to storing is guarded by each party member of the party which participated at least one election. Furthermore, any one can witness counting process. In other words, parties count and protect the ballots. It is not like in western countries where government officials do the job. Outcomes of each ballot has been registered and collected by every party and citizens in the room and declared by every party and the court of election online, on official documents as well as at the gate of the building where the ballot boxes were placed. In other words, you can check your ballot box after the election and see how many votes are casted and which parties get how many votes. So, there is no rigged elections in TR. In the past, there were discussions on whether to change some election rules which cause many votes wasted. I.e. if there is any sign or marking on the ballot except the official seals and stamp on the candidate section, the vote cannot be accepted as valid. They have changed it to sth "if there is any intentional damage, marking, signing on the ballot, ..." Current rules are more flexible and many of the votes would be counted as valid. This was done because some people filed complaints against some election board members of ballot boxes (of any party) who marked the ballot clandestinely to make the vote invalid. You might ask why. Because in Turkey people can guess which party you will be voting for by your appearance. Currently, if you wear mini skirts, it means you will probably vote for CHP. or if it is headscarf, probably AKP.

Its not both words that are "fuzzy". You litterally just described what a free election is. Its one where everyone who should vote can vote for anyone they want. The whole concept of "fair" elections is just there to limit otherwise dominant political movements, which arent always liberal, by splitting the electorate and making it harder to pass laws.
You could define a fair election as one where everyone who wants to run can run from any platform they want and that they are represented accordingly. But by that metric you only really had free and fair elections in weimar germany (and we all know how that went so this cant be the goal of the UN).

    • @caIigula
      @caIigula ปีที่แล้ว

No, fair means that there is some modicum of being able to present your political ideal to the public. Unfair is, when the current party in power controls most means of communication and decides that only their position and political ideals are broadcast and shown in a positive light. Also they can pass laws that make it difficult or even illegal for dissenting political views to be heard. That would be understandable if your political opponents are actual Nazis who call for ethnic cleansing and racial purity, but gets real suspect when it's only you political opponent who has different views on the economy and calls for a independent judiciary and a free press.
Fairness is also a metric. An election can be more or less fair. Seldom is one totally fair or totally unfair, at least as long as there is any real democratic process (that's the "free" part)
Turkey or Türkiye and Hungary are both cases where the ruling party and person is so long in power, that they were able to consolidate that power by encroaching evermore on the free press and an independent judiciary.
And Weimar Germany maybe had free and fair elections, but the Nazis received help by big industrialists who were more afraid of communism than they were of somebody like Hitler, go figure. Also, the Reichspräsident being only voted for every 7 years wasn't very good, Hindenburg did play another part in Hitlers accession. And the first thing Hitler did in power was to put an end to free and fair elections. He knew he didn't want to risk having another election at all.
By the way: Splitting the electorate (what you said is unfair) is exactly what Erdoğan wants to do, he thinks other candidates than Kılıçdaroğlu will split the vote so it goes to a runoff election, where he believes he has better chances.

Your dislike for Turkish politics is irrelevant.

    • @oriontigley5089
      @oriontigley5089 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's *really* complicated.
NATO started as a Military alliance, but I think it'd be niave to claim that NATO is _not political_ at this point.
NATO was very much created within the mentality of the Cold War, with it's foundations being established on anti-communism, anti-dictatorship, and pro-Western, as evidenced in article 2.
That being said, the Military aspect cannot be ignored, and Turkey is absolutely critical in terms of Strategic placement and geoplotical position. Turkey has been a crucial bridge between the East and West that the loss of would be painful for NATO.
And of course, NATO doesn't have any system for kicking members out. This strife is unprecedented and solidarity is central to NATO, if a country can be kicked out of NATO, the organisations sense of solidarity and reliablity may be called into question.
Of course, on the same coin Article 5 relies on the idea that every NATO country would be willing to defend each other, no exceptions, and Turkey's trustworthiness is largely threatening that.
Overall, Turkey's shenanigans are bad for NATO, whether we decide to kick them out or not. Either options hurts NATO'S solidarity.

Well, it's only fair that they aren't really fair.
Turkey follows "divide and rule" model like Russia and many others.
The actual democracy can only exist in chaos. When there's no chaos, people just abuse the mechanisms to control the opinions.
Divide and Rule model implies having one big party with stable support and many smaller ones which would divide the opposition. In the end, even if opposition is stronger - the big brother would win. You can also make people to believe that elections are already pre-determinated and "your vote" won't matter.
More advanced models (like American) would try to control the opinions of their people via social engineering. What you can see or listen to, what you cannot... what's morally correct and what's not. The impact caused by communism, theocracy and national-socialism was immense. The "experience" is still being used by this day.
Sadly, the actual democracy is an expensive thing. It needs chaos, it needs war, it needs constant struggle.
When the democracies were born in Europe, it were merchants fighting nobles for power, then nobles fighting the king for the same thing. They would gather their supporters and fight of their wellbeing. Right now, however, most people in EU, Euroasia and Far East live a pretty normal lives. People really don't care who's their leader as long as they have plenty of food on the table in an apartment they own. They would just stick with however is currently in power for the "stability".
