Just wanted to add what really helped me was learning to smash right in front of the net. If you can't smash it in the front, then you probably can't smash it in the back. Starting really close and building up from there was very helpful

Great to hear that helped you. Getting good technical foundations for the smash is so important 💪

I’m glad you mentioned at the end that you must be ready for the next shot. So many club players almost seem surprised when their smash comes back and they’re scrambling. That leads nicely onto another of the key aspects of a good smash (no spoilers), but it’s safe to say not getting this right can make even a mediocre defence look amazing! 🙌🏼👏🏼😊

It can be a good logic to feel that your smash is always applying pressure rather than a winner, this also gets people to think about the next shot more. Look out for the power episode later this month 👍

@ Thanks. I completely agree, many club players think the smash is a winner, when it’s more often effective as a building shot, or even to setup an opportunity for your partner at the net. A video on the tactical uses of different types of smash would be a very helpful follow on from the technical video series? 🙏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼😊

My students get so points at our level because other teams seem genuinely surprised that some shots come back. Snd they themselves are not surprised ehen shots return because their prsctice partners hsve better defense than average

It happens a lot, it’s having a mindset of applying pressure rather than feeling like hitting a winner, forces you to be more ready.
