@@UrbanistExploringCities I am also curious, did you study architecture when you were younger? The things you have said when it comes to architecture and architects are things that I’ve learned or am learning in school right now.

@@maekawamarcus I did not. My degree is in Electrical Engineering. All that I've learned about architecture is from books, TH-cam videos, and podcasts.

Thank you so much for this video and the explanation.
When I first visited NYC in 2000, understanding the grid system and how streets and avenues were named was so weird to me! That visit was full of me going
    "Huh?"
    "What?"
    "Whyyy?"
    😂
I just couldn't get used to it back then as I'm so used to how streets are named here in the UK.
The more visits I made to New York, the more I understood it and I now like it as if you're lost, you can easily find your way again, which isn't that easy in the UK. 48 years old, born and raised in London and I still get lost sometimes 😂😂

English towns and city's here have roads often based on ancient routes so are rather curved and indirect.
I loved the grid system in NY. Made navigation simple.

Great video, love the soundtrack. Have you ever considered doing a Mad Men related video? There's so much in the series that has Manhattan landmarks that you could reference. Also the character Pete Campbell was interesting. Here's some of his wiki bio... "Pete Campbell was born to an upper-crust White Scottish Protestant Manhattan family in 1934. His mother, Dorothy "Dot" Campbell (née Dyckman) (Channing Chase), descended from an old Dutch family that had arrived in New Amsterdam and at one point "owned pretty much everything north of 125th street."

    Good 🎥 video
Appreciate the time and effort to make it.
In addition, the *29 degrees* east of true North following the backbone of Manhattan Island accounts for *Manhattanhedge* .
Ariel, will ya' be dancing in the streets with your Druid attire May 29/30 or July 11/12?
Always fun stepping onto an avenue from a street on a windy NYC day, and being almost pushed over from a gust of wind due to the 29 degree angle. Thank you 1811 Commissioners.
Building structural engineers must be fond of the extra design consideration from the strong winds.
If the grid ran true north perhaps the wind would clean out NYC's pollution faster. So, with all the pollution and in reference to a previous video, where in the city can one get a 'hit of fresh air'?
Lower Hudson River is called *North River* since that segment aligns northward before turning around 23rd street. (Hudson is a tidal estuary that runs both ways.)
Would be interesting to find out what caused the ridge the Wickquasgeck* Trail followed, now Broadway. Glaciers?
If that's not geeky enough ...
... why would two growth men spent months out of their lifes searching for a spike? Vat, it voulda been too much to hire a surveyor?
*Wecquaesgeek, if you're in Yonkers, or, Man-hat-toe ... i digress

Good video and interesting. Just Stuyvesant St. is not exactly in East - West direction. East end is offset maybe 2 or 3 degree at Nord.
In the direction East - West are some streets around West 12th Street in west of Hudson Street.

So interesting especially about Stuyvesant street
Interesting how lower and upper Manhattan have named streets and midtown is numbered.
I think East and West Houston are considered double wide streets
    I am in Murray Hill

Your historical videos are great now there’s a lot of competition in this area for TH-camrs showing the same historical places or information however I think if you add astrology and ask people zodiac signs to your mix you have a better better world audience and interests as a Gemini you are a master communicator this would be great for you looking forward to your next video mighty Bull
