Hi Theresa, I am so happy that the videos helped. All I ever wanted by doing them was to help so many people out there who had no info on navigating life with a foley catheter. My hat is off to you for caring for your dad. I know at times it's not easy to care for an elderly parent, especially if they have health issues, however for you to give your time, and resources and educate yourself to support him is genuinely wonderful. Stay strong. I wish you both great health. Tony
I used a 5 gallon bucket with a trash bag liner that worked out nice. You have a handle to walk around with if needed as a bonus. My biggest issue was trying to keep the cath line from twisting! So annoying and very uncomfortable when it wants to twist the tube in your pee hole. Thank you for ALL of your videos on this subject...it made a bad situation a little bit better. God bless.
Mr. K, I'm so pleased the videos helped you out. The bucket with the handle was pretty creative - necessity is the mother of invention. You hang in there. Cheers Tony
Picking someone up from the hospital literally in the next hour and was wondering what the heck we were going to do, so thank you SO MUCH for this video. You've made our lives so much easier in a time when we don't need to be stressing out about anything extra.
Misty, you made me smile! I made the videos for exactly the reasons you said...I just wanted to help. Don't hesitate to reach out if you or the person you picked up from the hospital have any questions. Cheers Tony
Another great video. I'm four days in with foley catheter. Never told me anything when i left the ER. I've mentioned this in a few of my other video comments. I'm on my way to find someplace to buy a nightbag. Slept with leg bag so far and now understanding all the health and other uncomfortable risks. I hope I find them at Walgreens. I think they should have given me some when I left ER. Thanks again, Tony.
The ER supplies nothing! It unfortunately is not their job. Fix you up and get you out. I might suggest for some supplies any of the major suppliers, B. Braun, Coloplast, Bard, Cathcare. I don't believe Walgreens will have what you need. Amazon used to have some items but really the best best is one of the supplies. Also one that does not require a prescription makes ordering easy.
@@maletenance i do feel supported. i do thank you. sharing your story and the tips have made a huge difference. i guess now its time to sit tight and wait until may 30 to see urologist. seems like a long time to wait from the day i left the ER, May 16.
You, sir, are a rock star! All of these videos are the saving grace as we're trying to navigate new catheter lifestyle for my husband. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. XOXO
OH WOW! Thank you for your very kind comment. I was petrified to put myself out there on such a personal topic, however, it has been so worth it to know I am providing at least some information when so little was out there. I am so humbled that I have been able to help. Feel free to ask me any questions or I'm happy to talk with your husband if he ever needs to talk to someone who was in the same boat. I've spoken to tons of people and it's helped. I wish you and your husband great health. Tony
Tony, you are a lifesaver! Thank you so much for sharing such useful advice. My husband was able to finally get a good night’s rest, thanks to your simple and ingenious solution.
@Sugarmag1366 you are so welcome. Really glad the video helped. Be sure to like and subscribe so the videos can reach more people who need help and support. Also if you don't mind me asking what was your husband's diagnosis that led to a catheter?
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had a radical prostatectomy (robotic assisted, laparoscopic) last week. Gleason score is only 6, so we are hopeful!
@@Sugarmag1366 I'm sorry to hear about his diagnosis. 6 is low grade so definitely stay strong and hopeful. I wish you, your husband and your family continued hopefulness for a positive outcome. Sincerely Tony ps. How old is he? I'm putting together stats as part of my advocacy for men's early screening.
He is only 56, and the diagnosis was made as a result of a yearly routine screening. His DRE was normal and PSA was within range, but his PSA velocity was high, which was the red flag. Please let me know how else I can help with your research and advocacy efforts. Thank you again for sharing your journey and providing support. I wish you and your loved ones peace and good health!
@@Sugarmag1366 Thank you for sharing. It seems that your husband's diagnosis is affecting men younger and younger. I always thought that this was something much older men experienced but it is touching men in their prime which is devastating. I would like to see the first screening be 45yrs, as many of the issues surrounding the prostate can be cured if detected early. Again thank you for sharing and I appreciate your offer to help. Right now I am trying to figure out how the channel can reach more people who find themselves lost with a urinary catheter. I will be speaking with my urologist next month, on how to become a peer support person based on my first-hand experience and the thousands of people that have benefited from my videos. The pattern throughout, is people say they found themselves with little to no information on how to live with a catheter. It was just put in and they were sent home, which adds another level of stress. That time between the first insertion and finding my videos is painful, emotionally and mentally exhausting, scary, and unnecessary. Receiving a life-altering diagnosis is really really hard on not only the patient, who has to process it all but difficult for their loved ones who become caregivers. There needs to be intermediary support and information, while on the road to recovery. Hang in there and sending you a BIG virtual hug!
You are so welcome. It makes me smile to know I'm helping people in a small way by sharing what I went through and learned along the way. Cheers, and wishing you great health.
@@maletenance I have a question because you referenced the "sandy sediment" because I experience the lumen clogging and I even use a special silastic foley catheter which is crazy expensive but does not clog as often.I drink water and still have this issue I am told it is because I have had a catheter for so many years. I was just wondering if you know any ways I can prevent this issue? I see a urologist but it is 2 times a year for 5 min and I sometimes learn more for peers than actual Doctors or nurses
I use a small bathroom trash can and fits perfectly ,it took a bit to find the right size but solved my problem and have been using it going on 6 years,
My mom now has a catheter. I literally place it in a dollar tree bin on the floor. Gravity does the rest. No leaks, no worries. PS. Thanks for your videos. There isn’t much out on this topic
Hi Chaunda, I am really glad the video's helped because I agree, there is not much out there. If sharing my journey helps out other people then it makes me happy....thats all I wanted from this. Wishing you and your mother great health.
Great idea. I used my hanger so that the length of the bottom was exposed, with 2 together for strength. This made it convenient to slide the bag as needed, with a bucket underneath incase it leaked. I also taped a baggie over the curved part that is used to hand on tbe clothing rail. The baggie was to protect my bed from getting holes, if hanger gets caught removing it Thank you
Hey Terry, Glad the video helped. Great improvements and tips you've made on hanging the night bag. It'll help others that come here for sure. Cheers, and wishing you great health. ps. How long have you had a catheter and what was the reason if you don't mind sharing. Cool if not☺
Thank you! I'm a home care nurse, this will be helpful for my clients. I also encourage people to use a plastic bucket, or a basin from the hospital to place under the overnight bag, it may save you from mopping the floor or having to clean the carpet.
This is BRILLIANT! I had a plastic file-folder box and was hanging it on that but it was so low down I didn't have much "tube-freedom" to change my position. Thanks so much!
I'm really glad it helped. You know anything we can do to make life a little easier while having a catheter makes a huge difference. Cheers, and wishing you great health. Tony
Man, I couldn’t get to sleep bc this catheter was bothering me so bad. Had it hooked, but the tubing and some of the bag was touching the ground. Didn’t know what my issue was and this helped immensely! I can already tell how much more comfortable I am after creating distance with the hanger trick so gravity can do it’s thing. Thank you sooo so much, I needed a decent nights sleep after all those nights in the hospital 🙏🏼
To get a comment from you that the hanger trick worked and is giving you relief makes me smile!!! I am truly humbled and privileged. I was so scared to put out these videos but I knew if I could help out in a small way from what I learned while I had my catheter, it would be worth it to share and at the very least help one person. It has blown my mind that so many people have visited and commented positively. It's also sad that so many have to use a catheter to void urine. There is a crisis with men and their health. But I'm working on something to help. So tell me, how are you doing? Also, if you don't mind, what was your diagnosis that led to catheter use and how old are you? The reason I ask is it will help for my further advocacy for men's health. You can also email me privately if you prefer anonymity - tony.alcindor@maletenance.com. Cheers. Tony
Great I underwent Rezum procedure yesterday and I am home same evening. I adopted your hanger idea to hang the urine bag at night. It works so well. Thanks Vijay Damle Pune, India
Awwww Jan, thank you for the kind words. All I wanted to do when I started these videos was help and there was nothing out there. I had to go it alone and figure it out by myself. God bless my doctor and the nurses but they were at a loss as to how to live daily with that archaic device. My, I ask, as a home health expert, how many people do you see that have to use a urinary catheter to void urine? What is the age? Are you seeing more? What is the diagnosis? Is it the majority of your patients and is it mostly for incontinence due to age? How has it affected their physical mobility and their mental state? I'm doing research and have developed a catheter that allows more range of motion so that activities of daily living can be achieved which improves the quality of life. I am also working to be an advocate for prostate screening to be lowered as more and more men are diagnosed with BPH at a younger age than the first recommended screening. I'd like to be able for men to get comprehensive care instead of reactive. Sorry to blab on but I am passionate about this. Anyhow, thank you for all you do as a home health care aid......you are a God send to many I'm sure. Wishing you great health and hope to hear dorm you soon. Cheers Tony
This is a GREAT idea. I am using a catheter temporarily for a few days following a procedure I had. I saw this and tried it last night. I had plastic hangers and ended up using two, one on top of the other--for a little extra support. It worked GREAT!!! Thanks for the idea. I am going to share this with my urologist.
Hi Wayne, I'm really happy the hanger trick worked for you. I had an older gentleman write me to say he used his walking cane. He just slid it in between the mattress and left some hanging out and voila! Necessity is the mother of invention. Hey do me a favor when you speak with your urologist and tell him about this channel that offers practical information (not medical advice) on living with a catheter. Probably like most of the urologists out there he did not provide any information beyond medical.....which of course is incredibly important.....but from the hundreds of thousands of people who have watched the videos and thanked me for making them, something as simple as hygiene, sitting, sleeping is not covered by the medical professional. Its peer support which is very much needed in tandem with medical support to get through it all. Cheers, and wishing you and your loved ones great health. Tony
@@maletenance So Tony, I told my urologist about the hanger method and where I got the idea from. The response was, "What a great idea--I am going to remember that to help others." Again, thanks for sharing. I have another surgery coming up on Tuesday where I will need a temporary catheter again. My hangers are ready! 😁
Hi Wayne, Thanks for sharing with your urologist the hanger trick...hopefully he'll share it with others. Also, I think you may have had your procedure..... how are you doing?
I leave night bag usually in trash bin at side of bed . Currently sleeping on couch long story so I leave it on ground at side of couch . I'm getting painting done so all my stuff is on bed . Seems to be less tugging on couch than in bed . Sl this video really helps me prepare for sleeping in bed again. Thank u
Whatever gets you some comfort. I'm not sure if I was supposed to do it or not but I sometimes I laid the overnight bag at the foot of the bed. Nothing happened thank God. Most of the time I did the coat hanger trick.
The bag is a real project to understand. This really needs to be discussed with the nurse. I drain on a time frame and note my -in-flow rate. One can even back flow it to flush end-time degree.
Thats a great system. I wish the medical professionals would provide some information than nothing. So many people that visit the site say they were given no information at all and it would truly benefit the user. I'm working on proposing to my urologist to suggest to his patients to watch the videos as a tool to supplement his work. Just got to figure out how as I am not a doctor. I don't have all the answers but some are better than nothing and if the end result is great health, physically, mentally and emotionally, then it's good for everyone. Cheers, and wishing you great health. Tony
I had no idea this was supposed to be hanging, the first few nights, I just laid it on the floor, then the only night I slept in the bed I laid it on a towel under the sheet. This really helps me, many thanks.
I'm really glad you found the video informative. I'm not surprised you did not know that ideally the bag should be hung as it's better for draining when you're lying down. The common theme for anyone who gets a urinary catheter...and this is globally....is NO INFORMATION IS PROVIDED!! I can not tell you the thousands and thousands of people who have told me the catheter was put in, whether in the ER or physician's office, and discharged with not even a page of dos and don'ts, how to, what to expect.....zero information. It's actually shocking that something so common does not come with a booklet/pamphlet on how to navigate living with the archaic torture device. I mean you get an instruction manual for everything else!! Sorry for the rant....I'm a little passionate about the topic. Anyhow, keep watching the vids and if you have any questions feel free to reach out here or at Tony.Alcindor@Maletenance.com Cheers, Tony
Me: I’ve been a T-12 complete paraplegic, for about 14 years now. I haven’t been hanging my 2000ml night bag for many years. I have a Rubbermaid brand, plastic basin/tub, and lay my overnight bad into it. Re: Sometimes you get a poorly manufactured bag, even new, I’ve had an entire 2000ml puddle of urine, all over my bedroom floor. Even though my floors don’t have carpet, it’s still a pain, to have a Hugh urine puddle to wake up to. By laying my nighttime urine bag into my plastic tub, I have no worries, should a leak occur. Make sure you have your tubing attached appropriately to your leg strap.
Good advice for night hanging. Those hooks need to be redesigned or given options. For home use, the hook sucks. If I'm not going out, I want to hang a strap on the bag and carry it around the home. Currently using a luggage strap that can carry the night bag. Loop the strap over my head and shoulders. Almost works. The hook lets the bag fall from the luggage strap. Connect the luggage strap to the night bag with a carabiner after the hook is "unbuttoned" from the night bag.
Hi, I'm glad the tip for the night bag helped and I commend you for your creative use of the luggage strap. You gotta do, what you gotta do when dealing with the archaic torture device. Necessity is the mother of invention and I took it a step further and was awarded a patent last year for an improved catheter that works with the body to cut down the pain from the in and out friction when moving. I suffered when I had my catheter and thought there has to be a better way. I hope it'll be available in the near future. Cheers and wishing you well. Tony ps Do you have a pic of your system you rigged up?
@@michelleadriaans5760 sorry for the delayed response. I'm keeping things under wrap for just a little longer before I share it with everyone. stay tuned.
That is brilliant.. Picked up my husband tonight from hospital and he came home with a catheter. I saw this when I was looking for how to switch from the leg bag to the night bag. We actually do have a hospital bed, but I had a hard time figuring out how to hang the bag anyway because of how the rails move around. (Confusing to explain). Anyway, I'm sure you have some good tips I can use while caring for him so I'm subscribing. God bless.
I'm so glad you found the bag tip helpful and hope the other videos do as much. If you have any questions that I did not cover in the video please feel free to reach out. I wish you, your husband, and your loved ones great health. T
I made one from a 14 inch long, 1/2 inch pvc pipe. I then attached a 1/2 inch pipe clamp to one end. Then I set the pipe between the 2 mattresses. Works great.
This sounds amazing!!! Real MacGyver!!! Do you have picture you could share. I might even do a video about it. You could email it to me too Tony.Alcindor@Maletenance.com
That is a brilliant idea, I will have to try that, now the other issue is cleaning the day bag and the night bag, do you just give them a vinegar flush and hang them somewhere or what is the trick to not get bacteria problems?
Hi Ralph, Necessity is the mother of invention when it came to hanging the night bag. Some people shared their tricks....a cane, a tennis racket.....people are pretty creative. As for how I cleaned the night bag....just warm water hang to dry. I also used gloves and made sure the bag tips/openings did not touch any surfaces. I was fortunate to have all my supplies provided by my urologist. So basically you wash the one you are not using, while using the other and rotate. I think after a month I would throw them away. As for bacteria problems....if you get away without having a CAUTI while cathing, you're lucky. Even with all the proper precautions and hygiene I still got one during my three plus months of being a catheter user. By the way, if you don't mind me asking - How did you come to using a catheter, what was your diagnosis? Cheers, and wishing you great health. Tony
Great idea! What I did was set a empty kitty litter bucket (7.7kg bucket from Tidy Cats LightWeight) on the floor at the side of the bed. I hook the bag INSIDE the bucket and lower the plastic tub lid down which keeps the cat from playing with anything. I set a bit of weight on top as well. Again to keep the cat from messing with anything. Works out fine.
lol! I had discovered sounds on I-Movie when I was editing. I thought it was funny and decided to leave it in for a giggle, as this subject matter can get a little heavy.
I hav that bag my original finally died..i didnt lije the drain valve at all saw that ut would probably wear out b4 bag..i took other valve from other bag attached very easy no keaks push valve
An empty plastic rectangular kitty litter bucket works perfectly. The plastic handle is longer so it keeps the bag below your bladder when walking around with it.
What do we do when the bag collapses and the sides are sucked in together and it needs some air in it to allow it to fill? I have to wait way too long for a home health nurse to come over! I have gotten an infection because I wasn't shown how to properly care for my Foley. The vaccumm situation is mystifying 😢
Hi Terrie, I'm sorry to read you're having a rough go with your catheter. It is a big pain in the crotch, to say the least. In all the years I have been doing the channel, I have never heard of the bag collapsing, least of all creating a vacuum. I never experienced that. Might I suggest you join the Facebook Catheter Support group at facebook.com/groups/1921771728037940/ They are an incredible group of people worldwide who share what they know. There you will probably find someone who has experienced this phenomenon once you ask the question. If there is anything else I can help with please don't hesitate to ask. Hang in there. Wishing you all the best Tony
My elderly father had a foley catheter after his hospital stay for about 3 weeks. Because he had a broken arm and general impaired dexterity we empty his drainage bag at night. The frustrating part is that there are nights where he can fill it 3 times typically 2 times. Meaning we didnt sleep a full night. He now uses an external cathetor as his cast is now removed but the hand is healing and we dont want him getting up. I just ordereded a 4000ml bag in hopes of sleeping a full night. Once more of the swelling on his hand goes down he will switch to the urinal cup as well as the bed sheet snd bed pad.
The larger bag should allow everyone to sleep a whole night. Not sure if this would be an option if nightly medication is needed but I cut off drinking anything a couple of hours before bedtime which helped.
@@maletenance Much appreciated advice. He is however a diabetic. So we still allow him to drink lots of water even at night. I appreciated the video about the importance of being healthy not just for vanity. Bad health complicates everything, it is not as simple as the way someone looks.
@@archielang7427 Hi Archie, I'm glad you liked the video about having great health. It's really our greatest gift. Where do you place hose for drainage. I ve had mine under leg but it doesn’t always work. Also how do you clean plastic tubing so that it can be reused
Hi Jeff, I'm not sure what you mean by the hose? Are you referring to the catheter or the longer tube with the larger nighttime urine bag? I don't want to give you the wrong information. Also, I'm sorry you have to deal with all of this catheter stuff on top of whatever health issue got you here, however, I will try and help you the best I can. Tony
@@maletenance I’m referring to the longer tube. I have been running hot water thru it to keep the flow but all of a sudden the hose is not emptying in the bag. I’m really tired of investing in hoses and bags.
Hi Ricardo, I was actually more careful about the tip of the catheter and the part of the urine bag that joins the catheter. You have to take extra care with hygiene and wash your hands every time you handle any parts of the catheter and your privates. Even with all that, I got a urine infection. I think it kinda goes with the territory of having a catheter.
Hi Tony, I had the foley finally removed after 2 weeks, but I had issues emptying out the bladder. They wanted to send me home with another foley, but I chose to use the "self-catheterization" method instead. They sent me home with a box of one-time use foleys. Tony, (if you haven't as of yet) you could do a video on the problems one may have after the removal of the foley, just a thought. Thanks always for all your information, much appreciated. xox.m2
My uncle finds self catheterization impossible to do as it is extremely painful apparently and he can’t imagine anyone being able to do it so he refused to let go of the Foley now for five months now - any tips on that to share please?
@@webversation the self foley, is lubricated very well, also, what helps is numbing the penis first. He can ask for some numbing gel, which can be inserted first, wait 5 minutes then do the self foley. I understand many men do it once at night, then in the morning. He can also ask a friend to help him, or a visiting home nurse can help as well. I couldn't sleep with the attached foley so I went with the self foley. Just had to do it 3 times before I got back to a normal stream on my own.
thanks for really a genius way to hang that bag--my husband has catheter and he just puts the bag on the floor--which is wrong! because he has had many problems with infection and bladder spasms he has to wear large bag during the day too. So visible! Any tricks to make it less visible?
Hi Aleksandra, I am so happy you found the video/s helpful and my hat is off to you for being a great and concerned caregiver to your husband, For the larger bag, I did a video about how to hide it and I suggested loose-fitting pants, preferably jogging pants. Black is best to hide any possible leaks. The looser leg will hide the bulk of the bag and it will be much more comfortable. I did not wear a pair of jeans for months. I also placed the leg bag a little more toward the inside of my leg so it wouldn't stick out. It did not change the functionality of the catheter and when the bag was filled it was more discreet, especially if I was in a place where I could not dispose of it readily. Do check in with your guy and see how he's going mentally and emotionally. It was, for me at least, mental gymnastics not to feel sorry for myself or feel like I was broken or less of a man. That at times was as difficult and painful as having the catheter. I wish you and your husband great health. Cheers Tony ps. I suggest also slip-on shoes...no laces....It was just too painful to bend down.
@@maletenance it is about hiding the smaller LEG bag, which he used to wear and he USED TO feel less depressed with it. Now he has the overnight bag all the time which is very visible. Because of painful bladder spasms he wants to do TURP as he thinks he will be back to normal after it as his prostate is enlarged. Anyway-YOUR TRICK WORKED GREAT LAST NIGHT. Thanks. Also, you are the only one who knows how hard it really is.

It's so strange that the urologist just wants to do a procedure without a clue as to what's causing the problem. You're right to be concerned especially for your future. Can you switch urologists? Also, I believe doctors cannot suggest anything homeopathic. It might be a liability. I was on a bunch of prescription medications to shrink my prostate but unfortunately, my prostate was too large and irregular in shape to have any effect. My only option was surgery. Had I tried some of the holistic approaches when I first noticed my urine flow slowing down years ago, it might have worked but I was in denial. I would leave the leg bag on and drain it throughout the day and usually not remove it until I was preparing to go to bed. At night I would switch over to the night bag. I hope that helps. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions. Cheers Tony
Hi Andrew, I think regardless of which way you position your body to sleep, the bag should be hooked on the side of the bed you are closest to. I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask me any other questions you may have as I am happy to help. Also, may I ask what was the health issue that has you using a catheter? Cheers, and wishing you great health. Tony
I’m actually sleeping in the living room . On a blow up mattress . So I don’t disturb my wife . What I use is a mop bucket 🪣 . Hang it in the bucket. Also just in case it leaked because you didn’t close the drain right at night . The urine gets in the bucket 🪣 .
Or you could simply attach the bag to one of the built in handles on your mattress or box spring. No hanger necessary. Most mattresses have those heavy duty handles for maneuvering your mattress around so you might as well use them.

Being married for years helps us to find intimacy in many many things - still my husband feels down SOMETIMES. I wish he was ok with it. (i'm supportive, but what else?)
I understand what he's going through. I felt like I was broken and less of a man. There's no one to talk to that would understand unless they've been through it. Be patient, kind, loving and understanding.....he'll get there.
Hey Dominick, thanks but I'm just a lil person trying to make a difference and help, that's all. My hat is off to you for caring for your dad. I know at times it's not easy to care for an elderly parent, especially if they have health issues, however for you to give your time, and resources and educate yourself to support him is genuinely wonderful. Stay strong.
I wish you both great health.

What many don't realize is those "First Timers" are sometimes confused. This helps a lot.
Hi Rod,
I'm really glad you found some good info. Thats all I ever wanted to accomplish with the videos was to help.
Wishing you great health.

Sincerely Tony
ps.

Great idea. I used my hanger so that the length of the bottom was exposed, with 2 together for strength. This made it convenient to slide the bag as needed, with a bucket underneath incase it leaked.
I also taped a baggie over the curved part that is used to hand on tbe clothing rail. The baggie was to protect my bed from getting holes, if hanger gets caught removing it

Nifty! I'm a home health aide, and I absolutely love all these lil tips!😃

Using a walking cane under the mattress works good too just hook onto the handle .
EXCELLENT IDEA SIR!!!!
Thank you so much. This needs be shared around.

Anyhow, keep watching the vids and if you have any questions feel free to reach out here or at Tony.Alcindor@Maletenance.com

Thank you for sharing the tip....I'm sure it will help others. Cheers.

Hey, whatever works and gets you through. It is amazing how full it gets....not to be gross, but it looks like a pee-pillow.
I made one from a 14 inch long, 1/2 inch pvc pipe. I then attached a 1/2 inch pipe clamp to one end. Then I set the pipe between the 2 mattresses. Works great.

Great idea! Necessity is the mother of invention. Cheers, Tony

Very MacGyver!
An empty plastic rectangular kitty litter bucket works perfectly. The plastic handle is longer so it keeps the bag below your bladder when walking around with it.
Interesting?! What do you do about sleeping?
What do we do when the bag collapses and the sides are sucked in together and it needs some air in it to allow it to fill? I have to wait way too long for a home health nurse to come over!
Not sure if this would be an option if nightly medication is needed but I cut off drinking anything a couple of hours before bedtime which helped.

thanks for really a genius way to hang that bag--my husband has catheter and he just puts the bag on the floor--which is wrong! because he has had many problems with infection and bladder spasms he has to wear large bag during the day too.
Cheers Tony
ps. I suggest also slip-on shoes...no laces....It was just too painful to bend down.
@@maletenance it is about hiding the smaller LEG bag, which he used to wear and he USED TO feel less depressed with it. Now he has the overnight bag all the time which is very visible. It's not kidney stones b/c I've completely eliminated salt out of my diet for the last 2 years and I've put myself on raw garlic, 50 mg of zinc daily, and 3600 mg of saw palmetto (every second day) and now I'm completely stumped at what is causing the urinary retention problem.... it's not UTI either since I was at emergency the other day and my urine tested clean.....
This urinary retention problem has got me really confused now... since it has been ongoing since Dec 2023....
What does your urologist say? Have they done a CT scan?
@@maletenance Urologist has no clue what is causing the problem. Urologist just wants to do a TURP surgical procedure which will possible leave unable to have kids after I get married at the end of this year....
I don't even trust doctors as not a single doctor even suggested zinc supplements for an enlarged prostate and the last doctor even told me to my face that flomax really did little to nothing....
My goal now is just to continue my catheter peer support and advocate for men to take a comprehensive approach to their health not a reactive one.
thats a great idea, i think my husbands going to need a night bag soon, so i will use this trick
It's a game-changer and will help him get a better night's sleep. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer what I know. Cheers Tony
I got send home with a leg bag and a night bag the one thing I never see is do you have to remove the leg bag or can you leave it in place?
I would leave the leg bag on and drain it throughout the day and usually not remove it until I was preparing to go to bed. At night I would switch over to the night bag. I hope that helps. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions. Cheers Tony
Very GOOD! Usefull. Thank you.
You are welcome! Cheers, and wishing you and your loved ones great health. Tony
If i sleep on my right side facing the left practically all Night i take it i should hang it on the left side of the bed??
Hi Andrew, I think regardless of which way you position your body to sleep, the bag should be hooked on the side of the bed you are closest to.
I hope that helps.
Please feel free to ask me any other questions you may have as I am happy to help.
Also, may I ask what was the health issue that has you using a catheter?
Cheers, and wishing you great health. Tony
I have super-Pubic Cattheter great best wishes paul from United Kingdom.
Hi Paul from the UK. How long do you have to have the SPC, and what was your diagnosis that led to catheter use?
I’m actually sleeping in the living room . On a blow up mattress . So I don’t disturb my wife . What I use is a mop bucket 🪣 . Hang it in the bucket. Also just in case it leaked because you didn’t close the drain right at night . The urine gets in the bucket 🪣 .
Great trick Daniel. I'm sure it'll help others who visit looking for info.
Or you could simply attach the bag to one of the built in handles on your mattress or box spring. No hanger necessary. Most mattresses have those heavy duty handles for maneuvering your mattress around so you might as well use them.
Great idea! Unfortunately didn't have those handles. Maybe it's time for a new mattress. Wishing you great health.
Mine doesn't have either one
Thank you so much for this advice
You are so very welcome. Wishing you great health. Tony

I could not agree with you more......our health as we age...at any age...is the most important thing to maintain. It is the foundation of everything! Without the quality of our life and those around us is deeply affected. I'm all about it. Health is wealth. Cheers and hang in there.
awesome thank you, Tony.
You are so welcome.
Cheers
Just hang inside a 5-gallon Home Depot plastic bucket. Works great and if there is any leakage, it is contained in the bucket.
Great tip!
Brilliant! Thanks.
Thanks Eric. I'm glad it helped.
Cheers
Tony
Great idea!
Thanks!
Clever!!
I pulled a MacGyver.
Thanks, Tony who's better than you!?
Hey Dominick, thanks but I'm just a lil person trying to make a difference and help, that's all.
I sometimes like to think that maybe there's someone out there that is going through a rough time having to use a catheter or having prostate issues and my videos helped or gave them some comfort and after they were able to refocus on their life, loved ones or their great project or invention that'll change the world for the better.
Funny right but it's a nice thing to think about....makes me smile.
Cheers and wishing you and your loved ones
great health.
I find it helpful place than it on the footstool
It’s no wonder your bag had problems. Just 11,000 ml weighs roughly 2.5 lbs
There is so much information that is not provided including different-sized bags. You can't imagine all the people who get a catheter and are discharged with no info on how to live with the damn thing and no supplies. I'm doin what I can to provide info and a platform to share resources. Anyhow I hope the message finds you well. Cheers. Tony
Just put it in a bucket next to bed.
Whatever works.
