Thanks for watching this video. I hope that it was helpful if you have a foley catheter in place. Please let me know if you have any other topics you'd like for us to talk about
Just had a TURBT done. Nurses are nothing short of being heaven sent. The care I received in recovery was humane and attentive. IMO they deserve all the praise and gratitude they've received during the pandemic. Also catheters are not fun.
This video is leaving out something very important, sterilization. You need to ensure that the plug on the end of the drainage tube remains sterile, or else a UTI can occur. Do not touch the end of the plug or the sterile cap, and make sure you pinch the catheter tube when changing bags. Use antiseptic wipes.
UTIs are more about microbiome than hygiene. A healthy, flourishing microbiome defends against invaders. Unfortunately, most catheter-users do not have a flourishing microbiome due to frequent antibiotic use.
No. A healthy microbiome is more important prevention than hygiene. Hygiene only becomes crucial once there is no flourishing microbiome, and thus, no self-defense.
Thank you! Your video helped me very...much!!! I actually watched probably close to 8 videos before finding yours & all they done was left me more confused than ever!!! So thank you & great job
In the night bag demonstration, you were wearing shorts. If the person is wearing long pajamas, does the tube for the night bag extend down the pant leg or does it loop up over the waistband of the pajamas and hang off there? Thanks for the video!
depending on the type of bag and how long the tubing is, it will extend down the pant leg. there is also tubing extenders if the tube is not long enough on the bag
@@DrRobertChan Thank you, Dr. Chan! It's the same night bag as shown in your video. I suspect it will need a tube extender to allow the bag to drape over the bed. But the only ones I can find online are only 18" long. I can find a roll of tubing from Home Depot, but where can I find the connector tips? Thanks again!
Can you give a closer look on how to attach the straps? Seems as though the bag I’m dealing with cannot use those straps. Is it a special bag that uses those straps?
I don't think you necessarily need to do that, but it definitely will probably help keeping it clean. I'd recommend a solution of dilute vinegar. Next, you will need to disinfect the leg bag with a mixture of white (distilled) vinegar and water. Do not use yellow (cider) vinegar. Mix 1 ¼ cups of white vinegar with 2 quarts of water. Rinse the bag well with this solution to help reduce urine odor.
What can you do when the tubing that connects the catheter to the drainage bag is too long to allow you to attach to the thign? Also, the Stat-lock allows you to secure the tube in either the vertical or hoizontal position. The velcro strap has to be wrapped around the thigh (horizontal), so the tube being secured must be perpendicular to that, meaning vertical (as you are standing). That decreases the distance between the entry to the bag and the tip of the penis, which makes the long length of tubing evan more of a problem.
Good question. I never fold the leg bag the way it is shown in this video. This is not realistic and this MA and physician does not know the reality of switching the bags and wearing the leg bag.
Thanks for your demonstration it Very helping and would appreciate post how to connect to 2000ml night bag with adventure cup style Cather hooking please? Thankful for us, blessed you and family!
Can I sleep with my day bag as long as I keep leg hanging. I've had a catheter three days and slept with day bag but made sure I kinda hung my leg. I didn't know any better until I just watched your video
Pinching the catheter when switching from day bag to night bag does not prevent the urine from coming out of the catheter. It still comes out and is quite messy. You have to make sure you are not itching the end of the catheter or tip of the tubing while you switch the bags. I have been doing this as a nurse for 25 years. I wish you would demonstrate in a real patient and show all of us how you do this with a sterile technique without having urine leak out of the catheter. Totally impossible. That is why so many patients get UTI’s or don’t bother to use the leg bag.

What do you do for Cather pain

thank you. just had prostate removal yesterday. I forgot to put the night bag in my takehome bag. This video is helpful and getting it sorted out.
Glad it was helpful!
can we reuse day bag or nite bag again the next day or always need new bags?
Isn't having the catheter open during a shower a terrible idea from a UTI standpoint?
I have my bag off and just the connecter dangling down. No UTI problems.

Without still close-ups of the equipment, it is difficult to see what and how to handle each piece.
thanks for the feedback. I'll be sure to make another video with some close ups on this stuff and try to do a bit higher quality image.
I agree
This was difficult for my senior father to follow. It would help if the catheter "appeared" attached to the leg for better visuals
What is the make of the leg bag? Iam new to all this. Enjoyed your video.

Saving this video. This is great information 🙏🏽
Just switched to an indwelling catheter for convenience sake (after 8 years of intermittent). Thanks for this tutorial!
I'm just wondering when you are taking a shower do you tape the catheter to your leg or do you just let it hang down .
Thank you for the video. Do we need to clean the day bag with some soap water after we exchange with the night bag? Thank you.

Yes
Great demonstration, much appreciated.
Was there someone playing piano in the room, or did you add it later ?
hi david, thank you for your nice comment. added the piano later.... haha - no piano in the room..
Please explain how is the sterilization process

How can the day bag collect unrine folded up?

New to Urology, super helpful video. MA is awesome!
thanks!
How is vinegar instilled in the bag for cleaning?
usually through the top where it connects to the foley.
@@DrRobertChan Usually a syringe is used to instill the 25% solution of vinegar and water.

hi, thanks for your comment and watching! do you have a web link to what that style of night bag and catheter might be? I am not too familiar with it.
I was sent home with one of each for 4 days then read in the literature to not reuse the bags. Is this ok to do?
Thank you so much xxx
Thks very much!
This is great thank you.
A demonstration on keeping the day bag clean when using the night bag and visa versa.

This is useless. We have all the equipment now how do you attach it to your leg.
With straps you moron.
The loud background music is nothelpful
Our straps be button holes

Having music on while you’re talking is a bad idea
Good
Dr Chan has good legs
Annoying with the music
Wow.... let me guess - no acting classes (or grammar).
Ne dao Bog nikome.
Ditch the music! A distraction!
👍🏽
Loose the music
