Excellent. Very well presented. After years of problems resulting from a spinal injury I now have a catheter from September 2022. I didn't realise that one can remove the bag and close the catheter for a while. I will give it a go when I am used to this new regime.
Very well done, thank you for the efforts to put this video on TH-cam for the benefit of the interested parties. Although, I am used to change my catheters at home with ease I learned a lot and Subscribed to your Channel. Cheers…
What wonderful videos. Thank you so much. I hope other people find your site because it is very helpful and informative. This is a 5 star review for you.
Excellent. Wish I'd seen this at end of July!!!! informative although I'm unclear least discomfort place to "glue" catheter to the leg and why do all videos show a length of "out of body" free tube at least double left for me to "tie a knot" in?
Flip-Flo is the brand name for BD's catheter valve. I have used both that brand and the Ugo brand. I had several Flip-Flo valves develop leakage, usually immediately after, or very soon after, being put to use. I have used the Ugo brand for years and have never had one leak.
@tevaho This is a wonderful video. Very helpful because I just learned about the flip-flow valve. I wish you’d pay more attention to women’s issues. I’m a woman and I have uribe retention, therefore the doctor put in a catheter until my insurance approved a bladder stimulator. I’m hating the bags, the straps, so I bought the sleeves, the changing of the bags, etc, my granddaughter is graduating next week and I don’t know how the valve works. Thank you
Hi Tev. Thanks for the information. Unfortunately my health care provider provide little to no information. On my third day at home I had an instance where I urinated past the catheter, creating not just a mess but a level of stress as I had not been warned that this can happen. I went back to ER, where they changed the catheter from a No 14 to a No 16, still with no explanation about expecting by-pass or whether it is normal. Is it normal? and is there something that can be done to avoid these unfortunate accidents?
Thank you I found that very interesting. I had a catheter put in just over the week ago. I had a flip flow on it. When the district nurse came they took the flip flow off is that normal practice. I'm hoping to have my catheter taken out on the 1st of may. Is it ok to have a catheter on without the flip flow on it please could you let me know thank you very kindly
I have used Foley catheters for three years now. I stopped using night bags because the catheters would end up getting clogged. I have a day bag which first thing in the morning I connect and it fills up which I drain right away. This seems to keep the catheter well flushed. drink plenty of water in the morning. I often keep the day bag connected for an hour or two. Once the bag stops collecting I disconnect it and place a clamp made for catheters. For the first two years I wore long pants to hid the catheter. Drain it as it filled up. Again I found the it would get clogged. Since I started using the clamp method I have not had to visit the er. When I was using the night bag if I failed to drink enough water during the day my catheter would be clogged in the morning. Before I got sleep I drink two glasses of water. Fist thing in the morning I connect to my day bag and drain. Works very well. A lot less stress.
Hi Tev. Thanks for the videos, very informatives. I recently had a catheter inserted in me, after not being able to use the toilet for 9 hours (due to the use of some classe A's and an urinary infection). I've also got a stent on my left kidney. All because of a cyst (15cm) on my right ovary that is pushing the organs down there to the side. What are the chances that my bladder will recover? Are there any risks of it not working again? Is there people who live with a bag their whole lives?
Hi Ellery If the nerve supply to a bladder is damaged/doesn't work normally it can lead to the bladder becoming a bag that doesn't generate the pressure needed to allow urination. In some cases a mass in the pelvis can obstruct the bladder in women. If you don't have any of these issues then your bladder should start to function normally again
Hi Tev, thanks for the informaton, I was interested in the flipflow valve because i have been using a catheter now for 3 months. The district nurse told me to try a flipvalve if i wanted to wear shorts . I tried using the valve and only had it attached for around 2 hours because the urine from my bladder just ran out around the outside of the catheter tube through my penis. Is this a common problem ? Just to add that I have visited the Urology dept today and have a prostate scrape appointment being booked, hopefully this will stop my urine retention because of enlarged prostate.
@@InJusticeAustralia I had a TURP procedure, not long after replying to your video, spent an over night stay in hospital and everything is working well. I am still having 6 monthly PSA tests as my results are at level 9, if it increases they will book me in for an MRI scan
Thank you doctor. I got a kidney stone removed with laser via the urethra and I lost the ability to urinate. I'll be wearing a urinary catheter for 4 days according to my doctor, but I feel I might need more time as the tip of my penis hurts a lot, and I can tell by the feeling of the catheter that it definitely needs more time. Where do I go from here? Should I wait more or trust my doctor and remove it and then try to urinate? I really don't want to have to go through the whole thing all over again, any thoughts on that? Also is it possible to tell while wearing a catheter whether you're fixed up and the ability to urinate is most likely going to happen ?
Thanks for that, im having Aquablation in a couple of months , very nervous about the Catheter thing, and its removal , can you do anything on the removal aspect
Hi , yea it went well , you dont feel a thing obviously as your out cold, you will wake up with water being flushed through the parts that they have quarterized , you will note the color of the bags of water that they will take away periodically , take a note of how red the color of the bags are, that will give you an indication of when the bleeding slows down, then they will take you to a ward where you will spend the rest of the day and night hooked up to that water flushing system, then in the morning the consultant will come round and check on the color of the bag , by now it should be pinkish , then the nurse will be instructed to remove the catheter , that only takes a a few seconds and not really painfull, a little embarrasing if your not used to a nurse handling your bits, , so then they will get you to pee at least three times , and once they are satisied you can, then your sent home that same day, it will sting a bit at first, and you will also still pee pink urine for a day or so, im fine now and everything still works how it used to , still get good erections and havent lost the firing pin lol@@kennyl.TheSilverJewelryGuy
I’ve been in the hospital an antibiotic treatment seven weeks. I have a catheter. I will probably have a catheter for sometime after my treatments are finished. They actually just ended day before yesterday. I have pain in the tip of my penis.. It’s so bad that sometimes I don’t want to get up and walk around because the movement of the catheter going into me pulls on my penis with any movement. I desperately want a topical suggestion, please. I’ve gone onto Amazon and I’ve seen numbing creams that have lidocaine. I have no idea if a general rubbing cream that has lidocaine in it is appropriate for skin as sensitive and thin as the tip of my penis. I desperately want something, Laying or sitting around because I’m in so much pain due to the pulling of the catheter, on my penis with the slight movement, is no fun and unhealthy.. I want to be able to walk around and get some exercise.. so please any suggestions,

Thank you so much I knew something was wrong no fluids were going into the bag so I squeezed the parts you showed and it started working again 😅
What an awesome teacher

How do you remove a catheter from someone nonverbal or can't communicate?
