I called a fire extinguisher company that tests those. They hydro tested two tanks for 30$. I suggest calling around to your local fire department and see where they send their air tanks to get tested.
Brad, appreciate everything you do! You do a really good job at being a goof ball who can explain things easily and then get into details for others. Much Love from everyone in Panhandle Social PB!!
What do you recommend doing to old compressed air tanks that we do not want to keep nor rehydro? In other words, what's the best way to dispose or recycle the HPA tanks?
Although DOT(Department of Transportation) that sets hydro testing standards used the word "cylinder" for containers holding gas/liquid....your word choice of "vessel" appears to be better suited given their respective definitions. 👌🏼
I’ve never had a tank tested I usually just get a new one before it comes time for it they are so cheap these days unlike in the late 90’s early 2000’s.
Well answer this, how do you get a permanent attached air cylinder on Hatsan Blitz PCP air rifle? it clearly states to get the cylinder hydrotested every 5 years for max of 15 years. It's a carbon fiber tank btw but it cannot be removed from the rifle. WTF
Interesting. Just looking to get back into it. Two questions. Where would you get a Hydro test done and when it does get tested is it marked on the tank somewhere or do you just have paper work to prove when it was last tested? Thanks! ps. I have one co2 tank that is labeled 91 and 2 labeled in 99 lol I guess they are ready for the trash.
If they are Aluminum they have an unlimited lifespan but still need to be tested every 5 years. I would contact a local scuba diving shop, paintball stores or paintball fields. They should at least be able to direct you where to go.
How do I change the output pressure on the empire basic carbon tank? I thought you had a video on it but can't seem to find it. If you did could you please give me a link? I know how to adjust it on a ninja reg, is it the same?
So a buddy of mine wants to change his regulator to change his output pressure. Why would some one change their regulator (or remove shims) to either lower or raise the output pressure?
So I'm looking to upgrade from my 48/3000 dzs and empire aluminum bottles to something with a little more umph and capacity. Now I have to questions for ya my good sir. 1.) Is it true that carbon fiber wrapped aluminum bottles still have the Fifteen year total life span for the bottle? 2.) What is a good bottle to test? I keep seeing carbon fiber bottles that are 48/4500 and 50/4500 peanuts by empire. Is the 48/4500 peanuts going to hold more air than my 48/3000 dxs and empire aluminum bottles?
a 4500 will give you more shots per CI, while it depends on the marker, a 3k tank will give you 'about' 10 shots per CI so a 48ci 3k tank is good for 480ish shots, while a 4.5k tank will give you 15 shots per CI so a 48ci 4.5k tank would get you 720 shots or so. As mentioned the 10 and 15 numbers aren't exact, but on the same marker you'll get more shots from a 4500psi tank than a 3000psi tank of the same "size"
I know this is 2 years to late but if you are just playing with a regular gun and not an electric, speedball gun that Ramps there is not point to get an electric hopper
hi mate I just started paintballing and your channel is great also I would like to know if you have done a review on the tippmann gryphone fx if not could you do one please
hey awesome video, in the future or if you can answer here one way or another what about Ninja tanks or any other tank with a gel coating that's cracked or chipped are those automatically disqualified from being rehydro'd if they're within their date?
nathan murch depends on the crack or chip A hydro test is preceded by a visual check If it is minor in the coating then they will be happy with it, if it goes into the fibre wrap they could reject it for affecting the integrity of the fibre wrap use a cover to protect fibre cylinders
You should be good. I have seen A LOT of them cracked and they have all passed hydro, because like you said "coating" doesn't have anything to do with the integrity of the bottle. If you have a tank that is within its first 5 years though Ninja will resurface it.
For carbon fiber tanks you said their good for only 15 years. If I got the tank retested a year before the 15th year would it be certified for 5 more years after that test date or would it only certify it for the remaining year?
jayhags scrap yard maybe? Or just give them to your local paintball shop. If you had a bunch of them it's definitely worth recycling because each tank is a nice solid hunk of aluminum, and a shiny brass valve too.
I think really going to come down to how much you want to shoot and how the tank feels on the gun. I know that if I played pump I still would use my Empire 80. I just like the way it feels and Im used to it.
Co2 is compressed carbon while HPA is just compressed air. He did a very good separate video about the subject if you want to know more and which you should use. And HPA is MUCH higher pressure
3 year necro post for others information. As someone who worked at a field for 5 years, I checked before I filled tanks and I would not fill out of hydro tanks. For my safety and those around.
Do I need to do the hydro if I used the tank (aluminum) for a year or two then stopped using it, left it without air and just picked it up back to play? The hydro date is overdue, it had to be done some time last year in theory
ALL tanks need hydro tested every 5 years. Carbon fiber tanks have a 15 year lifespan. So yes, you need to have it hydro tested? What kind of tank is it co2 or compressed air?
Hey man i noticed you had a 3000 48 ci. Im not sure about U.S.A but in Canada you don't need too re hydro a tank smaller then 52 ci! Anything bigger you do every 5 years!!!
It's 1litre internal volume, or 61Ci in Canada. If DOT changed the hydro dates it would be all over PBN. Downside of this change is that it is hard to get 68ci tanks hydro'd because they are so close in volume(~1.1L for the 68Ci) and 77Ci tanks(~1.2L), so some places won't touch them.
Great message and hopefully it'll keep people safer. There's a tremendous amount of stored energy in a full tank it's not worth risking safety over a questionable tank. Question: I noticed your Ninja tank had quite a bit of surface cracking. Will a testing facility hydro a tank in that kind of condition?
That depends on the company doing the hydro and what they consider "damage", the clear coat cracking is realistically cosmetic, but it makes it hard to verify that the carbon/glass fibers are in 100% best condition, so that's entirely up to the person/company testing. Now as for the cracked coating, Ninja has a specific part of their warranty page that covers what to do www.ninjapaintball.com/warranty It's down at the bottom.
R34_LIRA depends on the specifics of the cylinder specifications For the majority it's 5 years between tests For some old types it was 3 years Here in the U.K. Aluminiums can last 10 years between tests Old U.K. Steel 5 years between tests Certain old uk models were 3 years, but got 'upgraded' to 5 years
Co2 tanks are around 800 psi and, as long as they have a rupture disk, don't need to be hydrotested. The industry has gone way too far with this so called safety standard. Hi pressure air certainly needs to be tested every few years. Extending this standard to co2 was unnecessary.
Thank you sooooo much for posting this, all the hydro test vids were a bunch of old dudes talking through the process of hydrostatic testing.
Thank You Brad for re-hydro testing my Ninja carbon fiber tank!! Quick turnaround time!
please keep doing this doooood its sick
Will Do!
In Canada, any tank under 61 cubic inches does NOT need to be Hydro tested. Transport Canada updated this rule in 2015.
I called a fire extinguisher company that tests those. They hydro tested two tanks for 30$. I suggest calling around to your local fire department and see where they send their air tanks to get tested.
I did the same thing and I got my tank back within a week for cheap! Supporting local businesses!
Brad, appreciate everything you do! You do a really good job at being a goof ball who can explain things easily and then get into details for others. Much Love from everyone in Panhandle Social PB!!
This vid helped me when I got my old gear back out! Thank you for the knowledge my man (-: ✌️
Also aluminum 13/3000 and I've seen some 26/3000 are exempt from hydro testing.
This was extremely helpful, thank you so much!
What do you recommend doing to old compressed air tanks that we do not want to keep nor rehydro? In other words, what's the best way to dispose or recycle the HPA tanks?
I took my reg off and trashed the tank
I had that happen with a carbon fiber tank that was too old to test. The field said they dispose of them so I just gave it to them - no charge
When I get tired of Tony, I come here and never leave
THIS IS SOOOOO HELPFUL!!!!!!! Thank you! 😁😁
Although DOT(Department of Transportation) that sets hydro testing standards used the word "cylinder" for containers holding gas/liquid....your word choice of "vessel" appears to be better suited given their respective definitions. 👌🏼
Correct, not necessarily for the type of gas/liquid, but more for the reason that the substance is under extreme pressure. Ever seen an exploded tank?
Very Helpful.. you covered everything I could think of. Thanks, great job!
Thats becoming a problem! hahah i need to find new stuff to make video on lol
I wanna say one thing... I love you
💖
I wonder if you guys have started seeing COPVs yet? Things are pretty nice.
Wonder if the cost and time of this is worth the effort .. would be easier just discarding and buying a new tank?
ARE THE 13/300 hpa tanks exempt from hydro testing?
What can you do with old expired fiberglass tanks? The ones that have to be hydro'd every 3 years? Can you recycle them?
Unfortunately you can not. They are just trash now.
Came here hoping you’d have tips on where to get it done. Some of the comments did mention it though
I’ve never had a tank tested I usually just get a new one before it comes time for it they are so cheap these days unlike in the late 90’s early 2000’s.
Thank you so much for this video. Very informative.

Check out the under 2" diameter and 2 foot long rules, some small tanks do not need to be hydro tested.
Do you suggest buying a new bottle if I’m bout ready to buy one from latest date of 2005
OMG will someone please answer where to get these hydro tests done at please!?!
could you point me in the right direction for the first strike carbon tank that does not expire in 15 years?
Whoa 5k congrats
Almost 6k! Well about 500 short lol
Paintball Ruined My Life Dude you deserve it! Things like Q/As are very helpful, and no one else really does them

I have one co2 tank that is labeled 91 and 2 labeled in 99 lol I guess they are ready for the trash.
So something from 2012 is a no go they are aluminum or metal i believe...Where do you go to test them? I have heard universities?
If they are Aluminum they have an unlimited lifespan but still need to be tested every 5 years. I would contact a local scuba diving shop, paintball stores or paintball fields. They should at least be able to direct you where to go.
are those cracks on the HPA veneer normal? is that from the bottle being over filled or from dropping it, or does that just happen over time?
Does anyone know where tanks could be sent to have them tested?
I play airsoft but can I put plumbers tape on the thread (like on top and the thread that goes into the bottle )
yes, but it won't work very well. just get a pack of tank orings. Most places have a pack of 20-50 for $5-$10
How can you tell which first strike tanks have the forever lifespan?
WAY AWESOME, Your like better then Bill Nye the science guy!!!! Great info please never stop! FYI Paintball Ruined my life too!!!!!
Thanks, but....no one is better than Bill Nye!
I have a old ans carbon fiber tank the date is 07,08 what should I do
where do we hydro test them at??
Most paintball stores or scuba diving stores should also offer hydro testing
Also some fire extinguisher companies offer hydro testing
How do I change the output pressure on the empire basic carbon tank? I thought you had a video on it but can't seem to find it. If you did could you please give me a link? I know how to adjust it on a ninja reg, is it the same?
Is it wise to buy a used tank if it's out of hydro? if you buy it and then it fails hydro is it basically a paperweight at that point?
If you did have a tank that is outside its 15 year lifespan, how could one dispose of the tank in a proper manner?
Where would you get hydri testing done
So a buddy of mine wants to change his regulator to change his output pressure. Why would some one change their regulator (or remove shims) to either lower or raise the output pressure?

What kind of stores do hydro testing like say a friend of mine needs to hydro test a tank, where could he do that?
If you cant contact a local paintball store, if not SCUBA diving stores, fire extinguisher places or welding supply.
How about a cherakote finish on a tank
Ninja paintball are currently making their compressed air tanks cerakoted.
hey awesome video, in the future or if you can answer here one way or another what about Ninja tanks or any other tank with a gel coating that's cracked or chipped are those automatically disqualified from being rehydro'd if they're within their date?

I have a question, my tank is empty but is reading 1k pressure is this still safe to use
Sounds like you need a new gauge
what do you prefer ? Co2 or compressed air
compressed air for sure
@@PaintballRuinedMyLife why
Where do you get a tank hydro tested
I play pump sometimes and have a KP3 would it be worth getting a small 13/3000 hpa tank instead of running my usual 45/4500 I run on my electro?
I think really going to come down to how much you want to shoot and how the tank feels on the gun. I know that if I played pump I still would use my Empire 80. I just like the way it feels and Im used to it.
Canada doesnt require hyrdo testing on air/co2 tanks as long as its under 61 cubic inches :)
Can I fill my hpa tank with a regular air compressor?
No, most compressors are only good for 150psi. You need a hpa pump you can get a small one for around $300
whats the different from CO2 and HPA tank?
Co2 is compressed carbon while HPA is just compressed air.
He did a very good separate video about the subject if you want to know more and which you should use. And HPA is MUCH higher pressure

Where do I get my tank tested?
Can I do it at my local shop?
Most paintball stores can or at least should be able to direct you somewhere locally to have hydro testing done.
My tank is over by one year can I use it if I hydro test it
Should a site be checking my tanks are in-test when i go to play?
3 year necro post for others information. As someone who worked at a field for 5 years, I checked before I filled tanks and I would not fill out of hydro tanks. For my safety and those around.
How long does it take to hydro if u ship it to the place
Not sure there really is an answer. Im sure that every business is going to vary.
Check your local shops, mine has a guy that picks them up on Mondays and you have your tank back by Fridays most of the time.
I thought they don't charge you if it fails the hydro test?
It's probably going to depend of who hydro tests it. If it was my company I would still charge, we still did work so we should still get paid.
Do I need to do the hydro if I used the tank (aluminum) for a year or two then stopped using it, left it without air and just picked it up back to play? The hydro date is overdue, it had to be done some time last year in theory
lol yes bro if the hydro date is past due it HAS to be tested before it can be used
What about the 2x2 rule?
So if you have a tank from 2006, do you have to test it or can you still test it? I’m still a little confused
ALL tanks need hydro tested every 5 years. Carbon fiber tanks have a 15 year lifespan. So yes, you need to have it hydro tested? What kind of tank is it co2 or compressed air?
What if u bought a tank and used it once or twice that would suck
Linda Phillips if you bought a tank that then failed hydro test then it would suck less than having it fail when you fill it
True.
Where do I get them tested? Martinez ca
Most paintball stores or scuba diving stores should also offer hydro testing
