the butterfly putting all the tracks together was nicely done
Yeaaah, that should be on a shirt. Ish is dope.
This comment sounds like a troll in an Anthony Fantano comment section haha
@@whyisntitpossible404 fantano's comments are a lot of tpab jokes so yeah i get it
Bro the butterfly artwork was so nice 🥹.
Best Nas bassist ever
I could not agree more, a masterpiece in graphic design.
One of the few albums that deserves multiple parts
I just with there was more😂
@@CamdenLiftsI mean… technically Untitled Unmastered
"Embrace your loss, I am God" gives me goosebumps everytime
sameeee omg
An even more incredible detail is that on the vinyl there is a portion of braille on the inside cover that reads Tu Pimp a Caterpillar.
this is what makes the line in "savior" so crazy. "YEAH TUPAC DEAD GOTTA THINK FOR YOURSELF".
Reminder that David Bowie was a fan of this album
A man of impeccable taste, indeed.
He wasn't just a fan, he was inspired by the album and used that inspiration for Black Star.
The way you said “This man is an artist.”
I remember when this album first dropped, I was alone in my living room in the dark, earphones on, just absorbing the album whole. I never understood why this album received negative reviews when it first came out, I thought it was perfect!
Then I realized, the only people who didn’t like it, were people who weren’t actual Kendrick Lamar fans (people who never listened to Section 80, Overly Dedicated) they were fans that came from GKMC, and so they were expecting another GKMC.
This album was a masterpiece. I enjoyed it way more than Damn, which ironically did more numbers than TPAB.
The fact Knxledge produced momma is another cool layer to the theme of the song 🔥🔥🔥
one of the best hip hop beats ever on of the best hip hop rap songs ever might be kendricks best next to sing of me
@@ronhart2000 love that shout. Duckworth gotta be up there too
@@aziz2196 duckwrth is wild i forgot ab damn honestly
16:36 That’s epic wallpaper material right there 🔥
i literally just wrapped up part one and was bummed there was a part two i had to wait for. only for it to be uploaded when i refreshed! love your channel friend, much success to you
Happened to me too. Sometimes the algorithm does us right.
"I'm going to pause and let the magnitude of all of this hit you for a second". I FELT ALLL THAT 🫶🏾♥
I've listened to this album repeatedly over the years, and I've never heard it analyzed like this before. I've seen it all myself, but the way you put it gives it another way to love it. Thank you for two great videos on a classic album!
Mortal man is my favorite song of all time. That instrumental is just too good
this break down gave me a much more appreciation for this album
Would love to buy a print of that butterfly artwork! So amazing. Appreciate the pause to let this video blow our minds
This is one of those albums I listen to once or twice a year at most. A lot of his discography to me feels like movies, where I may not revisit them a lot but it's always impactful whenever I do get back to it.
Right.its great artwork. But I just wanna hear dope music
I listened to it once when it came out and never listened to it again. I'd rather listen to Joey Bada$$ or J. Cole. They had better albums with way more replay value.
@runegeezy I'm not a huge Cole guy anymore. Love Friday Night Lights but that's about it for ones I really enjoy. Joey is my guy, but 1999 and Summer Knights are still the ones I return to for him. Kendrick for me has exceeded my expectations since I first heard Section.80, so to each their own
@@JulianWyllie Amerikkkan Bada$$ is better than anything Ducky has ever done. So is 2014 Forrest Hills
@runegeezy lol as I said to each their own.
A part two??? Let’s gooooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I thought I knew this album to a T, but this video (as well as part 1) makes me look at this album in a whole other light now. I’m kinda fighting tears just thinking about it, especially considering this album came out in a pretty dark time for me, and I related so much to this album.
a bit of a reach but i think Tupac's answer to the caterpillar poem is right at the beginning of Wesley's Theory.
"every n-word is a star"
ofc, you need to put the album on repeat, but i just think it's interesting.
Amazing analysis of this multi-genre album.
GAAAH, this breakdown is sooooo GOOD. I lost count of how many times I said out loud “ugh this album is soooooo good” so the comparison is the same. Well done. INDEEEED.
I cried the whole time watching this.😅thank for the good series bro.
Love this channel. This is like “Reading Rainbow” for music! You're doing a phenomenal job. Especially with this album breakdown. One of the best rap albums of all time.
It’s insane that despite how unbelievably complex and masterful this album is, it’s even more profound in the context of his greater discography.
Literary master of the modern age.
You know who else is an artist?
You are sir!
This was pure 🔥. I love ALL your videos but this one sorta hit different.
Well done! Much ❤️
Butterfly hero’s journey reveal…chefs kiss 🤌🏾
Great video as always
Just found this series. Amazing work
this is one of the best albums of any genre ever created!❤️
Thanks to you I'm listening to the album again, again and again. Awesome part 2.
This is a masterclass of a video! You’re doing incredible work
Thank you for taking the time to create such an insightful breakdown of one of, if not, thee most creative albums in the last 25 years! This is what art is about. I was late on this album, I’m just glad it caught me when it did. People always say what they say about this album but I promise you, better late than never! For anyone curious, this album is the equivalent of whatever your favorite film director does in audio form!
I don’t think the reveal of the homeless man being God was a gotcha moment by God in “How much a dollar cost”. I think Kendrick is saying in his car he’s having a staring match and an internal monologue with himself and the homeless man, he was struggling with the bitterness that’s normal with people’s ideas of homeless people, they’re deciding to smoke that crack, I’m not paying for his drugs, entitled, lazy…. Etc, but Kendrick is on a spiritual journey, and his internal struggle is that bitterness and the ideology that we are all God’s children. And that passing judgment on one of God’s children will condemn him to hell. And the cost of that dollar is truly realized by Kendrick. I think is symbolic of him shedding ego and pride.
The way you keep the narrative well organized and quite logical, I can see the virtuoso bassist in you
Okay, you got me. I will listen to the album again
One of my favorite albums of all time! Thank you for expounding on this masterpiece❤
This album from the meaning of the artwork and title to the music and story is my top 5 album of all time.
Fun fact, the Freestyled verse is actually from the TPAB throwaway "Falsehood"
One of Kendricks best unreleased songs, Flying Lotus production as well...
Your channel is the only one I regularly check. Always on point. Thanks for breaking down this masterpiece over 2 parts. And thanks for what you do.
That sufjan sample is wild! I would have never caught that had you not played it side by side.
I said this on the last video, but To Pimp a Butterfly is such a masterpiece. Perfect album.
This album is amazing and probably the most effort I’ve seen put into a persons album. While I understand a casual young music listener not being into it. I’d encourage anyone who is 30 and up and appreciates our culture to listen to the album in full
Heavy on the 30 and up part. With tpab damn and Mr morale you gotta be in a grown mindset to truly appreciate it
Been waiting all week for this one
Really amazing content man! Your work impresses me more with each check out video and its honestly mind blowing to see that a channel which evidently puts so much effort into each release still isnt getting millions-worth recognition. Definitely keep up the passion and unique style of content and things are guaranteed to explode!
Thank you for this two part breakdown. Love this album
Brilliant!!! J
Crearively designed and great background stories, another gem of a video.
Bravo! Incredible! 👏👏👏
You're the only show I trust can give these masterpieces the care they deserve, you show such grace when dissecting the frog that it comes out not dead but BETTER afterwards. I really appreciate your attention to detail and clear love for the medium and its history. The butterfly graphic in this one is just *gorgeous*, and so satisfying to watch it slowly come together 🦋✨
Your album breakdowns constantly amaze me and help me love the albums I already live even more. You help me understand the genius of hip hop on a whole other level. Thank you!
greatest album of all time 🔥
The first time i heard i a year b4 the album dropped that shit made me cry ....it def hit my soul
You should do Mr Morale next
Yes been waiting for this
Great analysis 👏🏾
Dope videos. Myke C Town form Dead End Hip Hop was the first person I heard break down the Tu Pimp A Caterpillar theory.
Man. I was just about to type this. Shout-out Dead End Hip Hop!
WOW!!!
great work on a great work, thank you
Need that butterfly graphic on my wall
Dope vid.
Hi, big fan of what you're doing. Especially loved your video on 93 'till infinity.
I'm making a translation of that video to my native language and I was wondering if I could get your permission to upload it to my (yet to be created) TH-cam channel. Of course I will leave links to the original video and your channel in the description.
If you give me permission to do it, I might make more translations of your videos in the future, cause you've got a lot of good stuff there.
Anyways, whatever your answer is, much love from Russia. Hope to hear from you soon
This is awesome!
bump
been waiting on this one 🎉
great channel pray you get bigger
You're an absolute legend and I loved every minute of this.
finally!
You have to make a video about hieroglyphics' first album!!
Bro, your videos are mind-blowing 🤯. Thank you very much for it ❤
thank you, been waiting for this
hell yeah! Thanks so much dude, have a good weekend :)
How come we not breaking down Drakes music like this. The difference between a man who poses and be famous vs a man who wants to invoke change humbly and is true to himself.
great vid! been waiting all week for this
Excellent series man. Really enjoyed it
Favorite album Kendrick Lamar. And first listening time favorite Artist name Rapsody . Favorite song Complexion (A Zulu Love).
mortal man is somethniig else entirely
when Mr Morale dropped its been a few years since i listened to TPAB, when that song game on when i was giving the whole album a listen (i stayed up till midnight) my first thought was the song (Mortal Man) after making it to "Savior", when he quotes "2pacs dead gotta think for yourself", Change comes from within, nobodies gonna help you you gotta do it yourself.
because at the end of the story pac is silent meaning he's no longer there and Kendrick specifically states "Only hope that we kinda have left is music and vibrations
A lot of people don't understand how important it is"
the whole analogy of the butterfly's life comes to an end, in the end cycle of a butterflies lifecycle, butterflies lay eggs and they die shortly after,
Everyone is a caterpillar, meaning everyone has a butterfly inside of them"
the egg or as some people say "plant seeds for the future generations to grow" pac interview influences kendricks pen
pac laid his eggs (planted seeds) when he died and his wisdom in interviews and writings/music which were left behind in "music and vibrations" for future generations.
pac died 1996, kendrick was born in 1987 meaning kdot was 9 years old.
damn and mr morale & the big steppers next.
The greatest album of the 2010's. Hands down. Makes you still puzzled as to why Drake thought he had a chance against THIS level of artistry!!!!!!!!
thank you for your work, it is profoundly appreciated.
At first I found this album boring, soon became my favorite of all time. Same with madvillainy, we need one for the next video
Amazing video bro, thank you very much for this! 👏🏻🔥
Awesome
Such a great educational piece
great work! awesome video
Thanks for this
Thank you man!
EXCELLENT
Honestly you’d have to really know and love this album like we do to even begin to appreciate this video
Damn man. That analysis was ill!!
Just watched part 1 and cheked for part 2. And it was uploaded an hour ago! Haha
I love you guys keep going
incredible video 😀😀
Perhaps your finest yet!
hell yeah
Wow another great vid
I really hope you do a vid on his DAMN album
Can you do mr morale and the big steppers please

Do you have the design for the butterfly? I'd love a T-shirt with that
I was looking for this😂
How in the fuck did you find a way to show me something I never caught with this album as it’s entering its 10 year of existence
Tu P.A.C
You’re brilliant, sir
