Years. Thank you for this brother all
My comments on the madvillainy album.
Kmd’s first albums was tough for us in the city during its first run. Not only
The samples but the lyrical content was hard and clear for us (black folks in the nyc hood of that lyrical back pack time) especially in what we were dealing with socially in nyc and in the country. Anyway thank you.

Something to note that im sure MANY will have understood by now is the grave/gravestone double entendre with his name. "Dumile" sounding eerily like "Doom'll lay" being... doom'll lay 6 fit deep. On top of the rhyme scheme, he made his last name have a double entendre whil rhyming everything together.. there's a reason everyone loves Hip-Hop's most mad villain to date. R.I.P to the legend.

Also "unmarked or engraved" on his tombstone meaning he'll either die a success or unknown, going down with his body either being "unmarked or engraved" by his struggles or not going down without a fight. DOOM has the most dense lyricism you feel like you can analyse his tracks for hours.

A lot of the videos on DOOM now are from people who don’t know hip hop, who have a very shallow level of understanding of the genre, giving the videos one dimensional elements (mainly due to his explosion in recent years). I’m case you didn’t know or if anyone didn’t know… after the album got shelved . Dumile got Depressed and was drinking everyday of his life until he Met MF GRIMM. A rhyme master at the time in Ny who was battling I believe and was good too. And he didn’t come up with the name himself . Both him and Grimm settled on Doom. Because of his history in Marvel Comics. Doom coming back as a villain not a hero when he came back with powers . And the title MF was given to him by Grimm wich stands for Mad Flows . He is not the only one with the title MF Mez etc etc other members as well. Doom flipped the name later on to Metal Fingers Doom on production notes henceforth metal fingers special blends the beat tapes. All in all someone picked up this man from the ground when he was down bad, real shit Doom was homeless, I never hear anybody talk about MF Grimm that’s sad cause they used to be best friends. And we’re beefing at the end kind of before he passed away. LLDoom🕊️. Big Ups to Jet Jaguar ( MF Grimm ) and the Monsta Island Csarz!

I LOVE MF DOOM, but I never realized his name's MF DOOM because his real name is Dumile

    • @diggingthegreats
      @diggingthegreats  ปีที่แล้ว +2

There are endless connections - the biggest challenge with this video was drawing a line of where to stop so I can keep it a watchable and cohesive video. For instance, the lyric "Right above my government, Dumile" - right above my government name, Dumile, got it - but also it could be interpreted as "DOOM I lay" which, considering it's the first song on the album as this character, feels like it's intentional. Spotify's lyrics even list it this way.
All of that to say - I love talking about music and analyzing things, it helps me understand and appreciate it better. But when it comes to my own listening, I gotta drop all the labels and everything and just enjoy it.
      RIP DOOM

Great video! Very happy to finally see some DOOM content. The way DOOM created his own universe in each record and then created multiple characters who lived in their own universes is unparallelled imo. Competing with himself cos nobody else could touch him.
    Best rapper - MF DOOM
    Best beat maker - Dilla
    I'll die on this hill.

Yasiin is a fan too, as videos on here will show. From doing DOOM rhymes in the studio, to performing Figaro and Meat Grinder live with Robert Glasper, Chris Dave and Derrick Hodge. Not to mention his bars on JID's song Stars - he sounds a lot like DOOM on that song.

1, at the time of his debut album the mask he used was a cut Kane mask that was spray painted grey, 2, that last line of the first song IS a reference to “it’s a bird, it’s a name” but it’s also a callback to his references to jeopardy earlier in the track

His plan worked... I never thought he'd pull it off but he was right... this is like watching ant's being amazed at a sugar cube. There is no mystique to Doom's plan, he was very straight forward, he was just above your heads. I tip my hat to him for doubting him after that Adult Swim run... in the end... this end, he has been right. But Doom is not finished.

I'm cool that everyone loves DOOM. He was pretty good, but a LOT of his sampling was stuff that was already done before.
Like that The Deele sample was used by Kwest the Madd Ladd on I Met My Baby at the V.I.M. and Lord Finesse did that Scooby sample for You Know What I'm About by Lord Finesse off the Trespass soundtrack.
I love to see people love hip hop but I'm not gonna be sold that his projects were these far out super original pieces of work.
Love YOUR vids though and this was a great watch. 👍🏼

Fun fact: His wife didn’t call him Daniel… and nobody actually seems to be able to pin down what his real name is.
His immigration paperwork, his school record, and his arrest paperwork don’t actually match up. Some say he’s Daniel Dumile, Dumile Dumile, Dumile Daniel, and something else I can’t remember.

when u slowed down DOOM's vocals, he sounded a lot like ghostface.
interestingly enough, on a flight where they were sitting next to each other (sounds like a dream, right? lmao) DOOM told ghostface that he modeled his whole abstract style after him. it may sound subtle when u hear DOOM in passing, but when u slow it down like that it's REALLY evident

    This was excellent!
    It begs the question.
When these artists perform under an identity, which they all are because of “stage names.”
When the artist’s stage name dies, or that persona dies, does that necessarily mean that the “real person” has too?

Personally, the worst example I've seen was from that Michael McCrudden guy who does the "Before They Were Famous/Dead/Etc." videos. His pronunciation? DINGLES-WEE. I am not kidding, that's how he said it 😩
