      SMH disgusting greedy people. All a sample does is open up their catalogue again why they so butt hurt this many
      Years. Thank you for this brother all
      My comments on the madvillainy album.
      Kmd’s first albums was tough for us in the city during its first run. Not only
      The samples but the lyrical content was hard and clear for us (black folks in the nyc hood of that lyrical back pack time) especially in what we were dealing with socially in nyc and in the country. Anyway thank you.

    Something to note that im sure MANY will have understood by now is the grave/gravestone double entendre with his name. "Dumile" sounding eerily like "Doom'll lay" being... doom'll lay 6 fit deep. On top of the rhyme scheme, he made his last name have a double entendre whil rhyming everything together.. there's a reason everyone loves Hip-Hop's most mad villain to date. R.I.P to the legend.

    • @kodiacstephens8104
      @kodiacstephens8104 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Also "unmarked or engraved" on his tombstone meaning he'll either die a success or unknown, going down with his body either being "unmarked or engraved" by his struggles or not going down without a fight. DOOM has the most dense lyricism you feel like you can analyse his tracks for hours.

    I have several music projects where I play different characters in a sense. Not as developed as his, but I am showcasing different aspects of myself, sometimes saying things I don't even necessarily agree with. I enjoy it because it allows a certain creative freedom to write from different perspectives and exaggerate them. Story writers can often say more through characters than they can with normal monologue, so why not. MF was great at this.

    Just making my normal comment about how good I think this channel is. Already recommended the video.
    On a personal note, I’m really happy to see you covering Doom. One of my absolute favorites on the mic and I always loved how he (or his producers) would mix in things like the Scooby Doo sample that I recognized from Saturday morning cartoons as a kid. You also commented that “he’s your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper” or some such, but I’d also point out that I think Doom was one of the more beloved rappers by lyricists in other genres. My first musical love is rock and I remember after he died there were a lot of rock songwriters I follow (I specifically remember Thom Yorke of Radiohead saying something about him; I know there were several others but I don’t want to name names if I’m not sure who it was) who praised his creativity and wordplay in tributes to him. I guess the ability to not only come up with a 9 syllable rhyme but have it flow with the beat and being on point for the overall subject of the song transcends genre?
    Second side note- I know you tend to go back in time with your song choices but there’s a great song “Belize” on the album Danger Mouse and Black Thought did that features a verse from Doom that I’d definitely be curious to see a breakdown about.

    At 9.06 you claim that 'Clementine' and 'Valentine' is a 3 syllable rhyme...
    But, the actual rhyme from DOOM is - 'Oh my Darling Clementine - He hold his Heart when he Telling Rhyme'... it's a SEVEN SYLLABLE RHYME. Yes, 7.
    You should annotate this in the vid. x

      If you weren't hip to DOOM, you probably still heard his beats on some Wu-Tang members solo albums. Also, Operation Doomsday was only the beginning. Check Madvillainy and MM... Food.

    Well explained. Seeing this romanticizes it and brings high expectations. So because of this again I went thru albums. To be honest there are good tracks but to me it mostly sounds like radioshow freestyles. His lyrics are advanced but when it's not in tune/tempo with the beat it doesn't serve the end result. A track in where all elements are in sync, that's what I need to
    find a song great. Never the less he made some great things.

    • @thebiggestofoofs3176
      @thebiggestofoofs3176 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there's beauty in being out of synch when it's a stylistic choice. It's like seeing the core basics of making music like the guidelines of a coloring book and actively opting to color outside of the lines, or even taking it a step further and continuing the image outside of the lines provided, either redrawing what's there or adding a background. I forget what song did it to me, but it was exactly this thought process and for a moment I was like "damn, is the song out of synch, or am I?" 😂😂😂😂

    Lowkey great album analysis I’ve been obsessing over DOOM’s earlier shit ever since I started listening and seeing someone talk about it this in depth about the character, the separation from the main industry, the purpose of the mask itself, niggas usually don’t go this deep but I’m glad you did all love bro

    At 07:30, he says MFDoom compares rap to selling drugs, i immediatly remembered Nas' line on NY State of mind when he says "somehow the rap game reminds of the crack game", and then i look behind him, there's a Nas' backstage pass 😵

    I’m case you didn’t know or if anyone didn’t know… after the album got shelved . Dumile got Depressed and was drinking everyday of his life until he Met MF GRIMM. A rhyme master at the time in Ny who was battling I believe and was good too. And he didn’t come up with the name himself . Both him and Grimm settled on Doom. Because of his history in Marvel Comics. Doom coming back as a villain not a hero when he came back with powers . And the title MF was given to him by Grimm wich stands for Mad Flows . He is not the only one with the title MF Mez etc etc other members as well. Doom flipped the name later on to Metal Fingers Doom on production notes henceforth metal fingers special blends the beat tapes. All in all someone picked up this man from the ground when he was down bad, real shit Doom was homeless, I never hear anybody talk about MF Grimm that’s sad cause they used to be best friends. And we’re beefing at the end kind of before he passed away. LLDoom🕊️. Big Ups to Jet Jaguar ( MF Grimm ) and the Monsta Island Csarz!

    This was excellent!
    It begs the question.
    When these artists perform under an identity, which they all are because of “stage names.”
    When the artist’s stage name dies, or that persona dies, does that necessarily mean that the “real person” has too?

    On Black Bastards you can hear Zev refer to himself as the villain on the track Sweet Premium Wine. Also on the 1994 track Checkmate with rapper Earthquake, he's almost MF DOOM by then, pay attention to the lyrics.
    Also, if you listen to the 12" version of Go With The Flow/Greenbacks from 1997, you can hear him rapping with that Zev Love X voice. It makes me wonder when those were recorded.

    I'm cool that everyone loves DOOM. He was pretty good, but a LOT of his sampling was stuff that was already done before.
    Like that The Deele sample was used by Kwest the Madd Ladd on I Met My Baby at the V.I.M. and Lord Finesse did that Scooby sample for You Know What I'm About by Lord Finesse off the Trespass soundtrack.
    I love to see people love hip hop but I'm not gonna be sold that his projects were these far out super original pieces of work.
    Love YOUR vids though and this was a great watch. 👍🏼

    Incredible work!!! Well done and to the point. I go back to hip hop's very beginning and had the pleasure of seeing it go from the Saturday afternoon throw down in the park when none of us had a dime to the stages worldwide making millions. MF DOOM was one unique brother!!! Gone too soon like all of our musical greats. This video is a history lesson. Required viewing for all who love hip hop. The sad truth is he never received his props while alive.

    Mr. Hood was recorded in Calliope studios and it was easy to interact with Prince Paul because he was always there working. Deee-Lite worked in there around that time which is probably how Q-Tip ended up on their song. Dj Maseo was producing a side project at that studio - Black Sheep was recording their first album at the time, and Brand Nubian worked there as well. Organized Confusion's first album - All were being recorded around the same time. It was a vibe. Not to mention De La's 3ft High, Tribes 1st album and Straight Out The Jungle previously recorded at Calliope...The Native Tongue crew made history there.

    • @KevKruz

      I'd say Doom was grieving the loss of Hip-Hop ...Hip-Hop was the girl he lost. He lost her to the streets, to the "gangsta rappers". So he became a gangsta villain. If anything, I would imagine the day Sub-Roc died marked the day Hip-Hop died for him...also the voice on the album intro says "notify MF-KMD". KMD couldn't save their people or Hip-Hop from "making a buck on self-destruct", so it was time for Doom.
