Sir Nigel looks really haunting in black, last I saw it was on the NYM a few years back, A4's have always been my favourite loco ever since my trainspotting days in the 50's

So nice to see locomotive-hauled stock, and fantastic to see Sir Nigel Gresley at the front!
Last time I saw that loco, it was in bits at NYMR.

Wonderful to see this magnificent engine. I was 3 years old when I first encountered a steam engine at a level crossing. As it raced through on its way to Chester it was terrifying but I loved it at the same time. That started a love affair that I still hold dear to this day 👍

I grew up near York and that first image of the beautiful curve of the main building under that massive vaulted roof with a steam locomotive coming round the corner brought a tear to my eye. Makes one proud to British.
As a slight grumble, could someone go round the Uk railway system and pick up every bit of junk, broken rails and the like off the track. There are some that have been laid alongside the track for years outside Oxford.

Black is a great colour for locomotives, even streamlined ones.

I did not get out for this one with the rain being so bad Great view of the turntable which is where I would of headed too. I saw someone on Railcam standing on the bridge.

Loved the image of one man pushing the whole turntable and locomotive round while all the others stood chatting.😀

@@brianthesnail3815 LOL It has an electric motor when it works so they often need to help it round. A few times they have all had to join in with the push. I think the just wait around to see how much help it needs.

@@cedarcam I did wonder if he was getting some 'help'. I have been up close to the turntable at Swindon which they claim is so beautifully balanced it could be pushed by one man.

@@brianthesnail3815 I have heard it was quite an art getting a loco in the right spot to be turned easily. The balance of the table has to be good like Swindons and position of the loco as it weighs a lot more than the tender just placing it in the centre is not always the best position. This one is able to take Duchess of Sutherland which I saw last year

Magical to see this great engine running again. It was the last "streak" I saw steaming through Chillingham Road junction on the Newcastle to Edinburgh main line in the sixties. Steam trains had been replaced by diesel and the thrill I felt as a child when it unexpectedly came thundering down the line has never left me.

Why so much steam vented nowadays? Unnecessary, it never used to be the case.
