Awesome...good advice. I just so happen to be moving to Belfast in a few months and will be taking us Sea Kayaking. This was the first video i opened on the subject...hmmm. See you there!
An additional benefit to the methods you show is that they don't require as much upper body strength and strain on the shoulders as some commonly shown techniques.
Is there a paddle-friendly method to get in and out of a lightweight composite kayak with a short coaming? Like a wildwater racing boat, whose cockpit is way shorter than most people's thigh bones, but the deck can't carry the weight of an adult.
Participating in a kayak race is one such scenario. Coming ashore on a beach -- and trying to get out before the next wave comes in -- is another. Sorry not to respond sooner. Thanks for viewing!
This is a great vid but I wish someone would show how to get in and out of an inflatable boat rather always a hard side boat. Inflatables are trickier due to their buoyancy.
@capitalgaming4567 it is the same, just using a different scenario. Are you bored today? Is that why you are antagonistic towards ppl online? I suggest getting a hobby.
I love this!! Finally, instructions that make sense and are to the point without endless yacking.
Thank you!
Excellent video for those of us who have high performance carbon paddles and fiberglass kayaks, both of which are more susceptible to abrasion damage.
Excellent info 8 years later !!
Thank you
Glad you found it helpful!
These are informative and useful techniques. Thanks!
Ray great video!! Finally a good method to get in and out that I can use
What a style the way you carry your kayak on your shoulder! Thanks for the video!
Best video I've seen. I'm new to kayaking and this was most helpful. Thank you!
Lol I tried that paddle saddle to get in and yet didn't quite work out so I really appreciate your video thanks
Dude you're Clint Eastwood of kayaking, you're a boss thanks for the video it was really helpful.
You remind me of John Malkovich 😊 thanks for the video!

Lovely dismount! 10/10

Excellent, I use some of your methods too. The last one I've yet to try. Thanks.

Really clear and useful Thank you.
Thanks Ray. I fish over here on OD5 Fishing. I'm about to get my kayak into the equation.
Very well demonstrated

Hi Ray, Good video. Could you do one about getting out of a kayak at the dock where the dock is higher than the kayak?
I use the saddle method on the West Coast of Scotland where there are more rocks than sand!

Thanks!
That straddle method is more difficult on the wider kayaks.
Straddle is meant for touring boats, which are narrower, not recreational or fishing yaks.
That was great but what scenario would warrant you getting out in a hurry like that?

Excellent hood
What if we're short
thank you for this video
What if you are short and have a wide kayak? Cowboy method is impossible. Legs are not long enough!
Isn't that why he suggested the alternative "sidesaddle" dismount?
expert
It works if you're tall, I am not unfortunately. Hopefully I won't break my paddle.

@capitalgaming4567 Well, using your logic, if I'm driving and I can't see the lane I'm in due to excessive fog, I should get rid of my car. Smh.
