    Some risks are worth taking.
1917 France. With every death a British sniper inflicts he risks everything to make a strange inventory to those he has killed. But the strain of war and haunting images of his wife merge to torment him.
Starring Beth Winslet and Alex King.
Produced in 2005 I've finally decided to make this film fully online.
This is a rather basic transfer to a digital file, but for more information go to www.goodguysproductions.co.uk
Thanks to all who took part that summer, I had a blast.

Excellent work depicting this situation. I like the attention to detail, and especcially the attitude of the officer was very realistic.

This just came through my feed and Thank God it did. What a powerful film. The exact thing that kept him sane and steady is what killed him. To show there is nothing safe and sane about war. And yet it gave the fresh young recruit his courage to pick up where he left off without a beat. It just shows what lengths and how powerful our minds can go and be to put us in a place of “comfort and safety” under the most horrific of circumstances. You created that beautifully. Thank you. Thank you and God bless to all those who served and sacrificed and continue to serve and sacrifice. 🙏🙏💐

Hi Lorne. I don`t know if your remembre me, but I worked as part of the art department during the shooting of this short, in Winchester. I have the best memory of those times, and yesterday I decided to search the internet to see if I could find the finished film, which I had never seen. It was great to find it, and it made me proud to have been part of it! A few months after shooting I came back to my home country, Argentina, where I worked a lot as an art director assistant in film and advertising. Then I switched to opera. This year I´m stage-directing my fourth opera production after countless of jobs as an assitant director. But I miss my days working in the art department of short films in England. Just wanted to say hi and thanks for letting me be part fo your film. All the best, Mercedes.

I want to go home......I want to go home.....i don't want to go back to the trenches no more where Whizzbangs and shrapnel they whistle and roar. Take me over the sea, where the alleyman cant get at me, oh my i dont want to die, i want to go home.
I want to go home.... i want to go home I don't want to visit La Belle France no more, for oh the Jack Johnson's they make such a roar. Take me over to the sea, where the snipers they cant get at me, oh my i dont want to die, i want to go home.

Hi Jacob so good to read. I do read all the comments and its truly heartening to read your appreciation. Yes a lot of effort of course and made for a pretty small sum for film, our cash budget was only £10k

    One glaring inconsistency...
He has a working class accent.
Unlikely he'd be married to a middle class, educated woman, back then or have a property, such as the house, with a large garden.
I'm not saying it's impossible, however...
That aside, an poignant film, well acted and credit to everyone involved.
Incidently, I noticed the _"We'll not be mastered by no Jerry bas..."_ was omitted from the wartime refrain we heard at the close. Lol.

It could of been made for my Grandfather,...he was a sniper in WWI... the only difference is he survived, but his experiences left him affected ...for the rest of his life ,...he won the military Medal . Bob Cowell MM

Decently shot short, and decently acted as well, however; this may be one of the most ridiculous premises for a WWI short I have ever seen.
A sniper ventures into no mans land to pick flowers and keeps them in a book... what horse shit lol. Other than that it was fine.

Trenches look awfully dry and newly made. One thing as long as there are old crusty men trying to relive their past lives glory and make up for past failures there will always be a war to fight somewhere in the world and probably in outer space some day the way we’re going

Im not sure that the brittish that quickly got scopes to sniper rifles im not even sure if they had snipers only three years after the war started it was a long process to get good snipers

my great grandfather was an English rifleman who was lucky enough to be promoted to the role of sniper before being sent to the Somme, i recently found his binoculars and a spotting/periscope in my grandma's spare room and so decided to look into some of the WW1 history as i feel a duty to attempt to understand what it was like; i never knew him and he never spoke of his experiences to anyone.
I don't support war of any kind, but its been very enlightening looking into the statistics and history of the War, and your movie has given me some insight into the lifestyle that my Great Grandfather would of had before he was lucky enough to make it back alive.
Thanks for your movie; i think these films are important and that we should use them to try and remind ourselves of the horrors we can so easily bring upon the world.

on a side note: ive noticed this has been shot with a film camera and not digital (?) i love the grain effect, i think it makes atmospheres more real in films. Im one of those "vinyl better than CD" type of guys.

You would do well to get a technical consultant who knows something of ballistics. one never hears a bullet coming. you only hear it if it doesn't hit you or after it has already passed, and then all you ever hear is a "SNAP" or "POP" if you want the sound of a hit, take a good sized hammer, buy a pigs carcase, hang it up, and give it a good swinging smack with the hammer. that's the sound of a hit. If you want a head shot, try a good solid mellon or winter squash treated the same.

Great take, but I don't think anyone didn't see the end coming. Read a Rifleman went to War sometime. The average WWI movie send the same msg. His book says "yeah, there was a lot of misery and death, but there was some really cool stuff, too".

Why are they mocking him for being a farm boy? Most of fucking uk was farmland. Why do people up there hate the very things that give them what they have? So it’s better to live in city? Nope.

    • @francisjohnification
      @francisjohnification 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Relax. ‘He’ wasn’t mocking the farm boy, he was portraying a type of banter which I assume (as I wasn’t there personally) was or could have been prevalent in the situation. Pisstaking and ribbing amongst mates, associates...... nothing personal and nothing has changed.
