    Hey Matt- Coming from a DE89 I feel this razor shaves way more efficient than my DE89. It is a little more aggressive but I find I get less irritation since I do not have to go over my face as often. It just shaves more closer with less passes. I use the astra green blades and having sensitive skin it is the perfect combination for sensitive prone skin. I love it.

      I concur with the efficiency-passes factor, there is definitely a sweet spot for everyone. Astra SPs are great blades too, first and only ones I’ve picked up in bulk so far.

    Thank you very much for demonstrating this razor. It is a real learning experience for me: not only do I get an idea of the razor's features, I also learn technique from watching you shave. This is great training for me.

    Just got my red handle 3 one 6 in Saturday and shaved with it Sunday. It is a good shave. Love the Feather blades. I used PAA Meta Nectar Crown King formula. Very smooth and comfortable shave. Thank you Matt to you and your team for getting that out to me.

    I've never used a DE razor before but I'm tired of buying cartridges and struggling with clogging the blades. I just ordered myself the 3ONE6 razor after much research on DE razors. As a machinist and mold maker myself, I can really appreciate the quality of materials and craftsmanship that goes into a product like this. It's the reason I'm willing to spend the extra money for a premium piece.
    Thanks for the reviews. It's been a great help.

    • @robertcochran7103
      @robertcochran7103 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is what started me using double edge razors: the cost of shaving cartridges is ridiculously high. It got me so angry to spend a significant amount on cartridges, even when bought from Costco or similar stores.

      I've had a 34c for 3 years now, I use non-aggressive blades like a Parker etc. how would you compare this razor to my 34c? Would it be a good step up. My only complaint with the 34C. I have stripped two head threads

    • @alexk3948
      @alexk3948 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@tugboat8475 I sold my 34C as it seemed a pretty average clunky chrome thing and I prefer the medical grade precision of the 3one6. Still if you are happy with the 34C then maybe keep going with it? I find my 3one6 works best with Tiger blades for a close mild cut and almost impossible to cut myself. I find with Astra SP or Gillette Platinum then I get occasional cuts and burn in this and other razors. As a budget option it also works well with Silver Stars but they need replacing every couple of shaves whereas a Tiger might last twice as long. Happy shaving.

    Great shave Matt. I bought this model from Razor Emporium after watching your review. It's a fantastic shaver for those days when I have to rush through a shave and can't use a straight razor. Excellent review. I would certainly take one if someone gave me one, but I seem to be on a single edge kick since last November. Beautiful razor though. Cold water and one pass, huh? I've been doing cold water shaves for about five years now. I do two pass shaves, but I have been tempted to stop with one on many occasions. You have inspired me to do some one pass shaves. Thanks again.

    Interesting review, Matt. I like my DE89 a lot for its mild and comfortable shaves. Some say the 3-1-6 is between medium and aggressive, which sets it out of my range of preference. Stainless steel is certainly a great improvement, the razor looks classy, nice choice of colours and finishes, but the price is debatable.

    Find it a bit over priced for what it is and considering the alternatives out there.

    • @neokuji

    Hi Matt, great video as usual.
    As the Edwin jagger de89 and Mühle R89 are basically the same razor (head), I am interested to know if the similarities continue between the 3one6 and the Mühle Rocca.
    If u have the Rocca around would very much appreciate a comparison.

    Hi Matt, thanks for the review. I tend to like the mid to higher tier stainless razors over the mass produced models primarily due to their feel and obvious quality, where does this one tend to fall?

    Thank you, what a great review 👍 I have just purchased one, knurled handle like you have, online and can’t wait for it to arrive. All the places I tried in England were sold out, but I found one from a place in Spain. I have sensitive skin so may try the after shave balm you mention. Been shaving for the last ten years with a Murker 42C, the 1906 closed comb version, which has been great. But I thought I may try an upgrade to this Edwin Jägger model. I have tried many blades over ten years, Wilkinson Sword, Derby, Astra green box, Feather, Murker, but still can’t decide which I like best for my skin. Any ideas on what’s best for sensitive skin in this EJ razor?

    • @RazorEmporium

      Smoother than a rockwell in terms of fit and finish - comparable to the 4 or 5 plate.

    • @neokuji
      @neokuji 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Concur with Matt, better smooth finish and performance (and more maneuverable) than the Rockwell 6s, in that R4-R5 (or 4.5 on the model T) efficiency range.

    A great razor especially for men with sensitive skin because it's actually very aggressive, so there's no need to repeat the strokes to achieve a baby-bum-smooth shave. Just one stroke and you're done.

    Hi Matt. Would you consider the 316 a SS version of the DE89? Or does the 316 feel different? If so, in what ways? I really like my DE89, I just wish it were made of SS.

    It's crazy how similar I shave to you. Very similar produces, buffering and skin pulling, one pass comfort shave with cold water and I use a DE89 as my daily. Wondering if this is worth it or if I should save for something else. Looking for a nice fancy razor that still fits into that goldilocks zone like all EJ's do. Heard good things about the Parker Variant and Merkur Futur.

    I've never been able to shave comfortably with the DE89. It was the first DE razor I used and cut my lip pretty badly. I'm convinced it was due to lack of experience than the razor itself, but maybe the initial impression was enough to leave me with some kind of fear for it. I prefer a good old Superspeed 1000 times than a DE89. BTW, I imagine you had to refresh your lather at 4:23, didn't you? I was worried that after 4 minutes your lather would dry out. I believe you should get all your gear ready and lather just before starting.

      Martin Shaves & Reviews maybe revisiting the DE89 is in order, if only to confirm. 🤔

    • @MartinOcando
      @MartinOcando 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@neokuji I did a few months back, and still couldn't get it to shave comfortably. One of the reasons for my hesitation to use it again might be that I got it with the black smooth handle, and is so slippery, that it feels very unsafe. I might try it with another handle and see how it performs.

    Since I have nothing technological to add, I'll just propose this issue for analysis: Chrome plated zamak razors will last a long time, and can have as good form, fit, and function as stainless steel razors, but are much, much, less expensive. Given this, wouldn't it be more cost effective to get a well performing inexpensive razor, take care of it, and replace it every decade or so, rather than buy a more expensive lifetime razor? Jus' askin.

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Edward Miles I agree that a zamack razor - treated properly - can last a long time. But all too often we buy up old hoffritz / Coles razors from mid century that are completely ruined by corrosion.

    • @coolguy298
      @coolguy298 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RazorEmporium Zamak razors are fine. But I wouldn't like my razors to rust and break. My merkur started rusting and 4 uses. I still use it occasionally. Now I'm using a Slim adjustable and ATT Stainless steel.

    • @neokuji
      @neokuji 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edward Miles I get your thinking. From my perspective replacement/refurbishing big picture may end up costing more than my initial one time investment in a stainless razor.

    I can't justify the cost as the DE89 work just fine. Also more expensive than a Rockwell 6S with a 5/6 plate if you want to splurge.

    • @neokuji
      @neokuji 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a better razor than the Rockwell 6S though. I’ll be keeping the 3one6, the 6s didn’t stay.

    • @neokuji

      Enrico Buscaroli also there’s something to be said about the weight and balance of stainless steel, not that other materials aren’t good too.

    • @neokuji
      @neokuji 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cost wise there’s also the factor that plated razors need more care, may be more affected by drops, and may need refurbishing (which Razor Emporium does stellar work refurbishing). Big picture, the cost (and extra efforts) may end up being similar, or greater.

    I'm a little curious why you didn't use the feather blades that came with the razor? Although I think I might know why. Feather blades as I'm sure you know are scary stinking sharp compared to any other blade on the market that I'm aware of. I started traditional wet shaving with a Merkur 34C and feather blades. Smart way to learn? Maybe not. I learned double edge shaving by way of blood. Not terrible mind you but nicks along the way. I'm personally ok with that though. Feather blades don't irritate my face and some of the best lessons learned are those learned the hard way. I currently shave with a Rex Ambassador and feather blades. Talk about a learning curve. Setting on the razor and pressure definitely matter. Too much blade and too much pressure and blood is flowing unless you know the feel of the blade. I'm three shaves in on the new razor and still get a nick but definitely getting improvement. I love the results of the new razor.
