Weird that some people think this series is a Baki ripoff, since it first began as a series of novels around the time (if not right before) Baki started its run. Itagaki and the author of Garouden know eachother, some characters from Garouden have even appeared in a few of the Baki spinoff mangas.
Just finished this. This is the best cross between fantasy and actual martial arts ive seen yet. With more realism than both baki and kengan ashura. It draws you in making you think its going to be a high octane rush of flashy feats of strength than doubles down to more real martial arts technique and analysis. Fights are choreographed well and feel reasonabley paced in terms of storytelling. Though every anime likes to glizzy glaze, slob on, or top off its favorite martial art this felt satisfactory. I wont spoil which as that can be very subjective. Not the best fighting animated series, but maybe one of the best dedicated to actual martial arts. It was suprisingly solid and may not have given me that rush though it by far doesnt have some of the glaring weaknesses ive seen in other series. The tradeoff i guess in dumbing down the speed and power to such a degree relative to other series. Hopefully it doesnt change that formula to much if the series gets a second season. I'd give this 2.6 out of 5 or 5.5 out of 10. I wouldnt give this a second date but i'd smash the first time and finish. In other words low rewatcheability but worth watching.
I binged it all, and that was amazing! I like the art style - not too grotesque-looking like Baki. I look forward to many more seasons, but please give the tournament fights more time and focus. I enjoyed the very short fight between Nagata and Kudou - the animation was slick! I hope Nagata gets the spotlight that he earned. I would watch a whole season of just tournament fights. Thank you, Netflix!
I see. They are most definitely going to take a lot of liberties with the how the story played out and described in the manga. First change here is the visual one. Fujimaki looks more like serial killer in the original manga and the games while here he as babyface (almost). He also never sported a beard but they gave him one now. Second, that the reason he's on the run from the cops is because he killed a drunk who put hands on and violated his master's daughter who also happened to be his love interest at that time. But here they say that it was some random thief . Third, they are setting up Bunshichii as the main antagonist of the story, while in the original manga, its vice versa and Fujimaki is one of the greatest hurdles to overcome while Bunshichii is the main protagonist.
One more reason as to why the art style and the characters seem different very well maybe a Netflix thing, as it may want Garouden to be on par with Baki and Kengan in character presence and aura. So to achieve that, studio NAZ may have consciously chosen to beef up the characters, give them beards and stubbles , and in case of some totally remove the androgynous elements of their appearance (Himekawa).
Im pretty sure the narration of him killing a "thief" that invaded his master's dojo is an outsider view, since he is protecting her honour no one knows she got violated. They didnt change that, watch the wholw trailer.

The same guy who does the Baki manga The only character that I can recognize is the judo who is probably Juuzou but he looks so different compared to the manga. Maybe this is basedon the novel instead.
Jirou Taniguchi also worked on his own adaptation of Garouden. It only covers the first storyline though, where Tanba seeks a rematch against a pro-wrestler who beat him senseless back when he was dojo hunting.
Let's hope that Netflix gets it's hands on that one as well. And the holy martial arts combat tetralogy will be complete. Baki X Kengan X Garouden X Tough.

Many things have been changed. The animation looks awesome but they've very much toned the brutality and gritty feeling of the original manga and games here. I'm not joking when I say that at 0:09 , this scene in the manga is very different. The true reason on why Fujimaki kills the perpetrator and how brutally he does that are not here in this anime .
Now I also feel that the animators and Netflix allowed a much different art style so that characters look formidable and macho enough (they already were tbh) to be visually on par with Baki and Kengan, doing that by beefing up and giving beards and stubbles to certain characters, while removing androgynous elements from others like Himekawa.

Never thought I'd see the day it'd get an anime.
I hope Tanba Bunshichi is in....
Tanba is in it i have finished it.
PETA is not gonna be happy with this anime. Good.
Short fights same techniques repeat over and over but i enjoyed every moment of it...i want s2 the after jail ark or maybe a jail mma tournament like boyka a lot of things could be made and a lot of potential
How long before we get Baki vs Kengan vs Garouden?
2027 or 2028 or not at all depends garouden if it get famous from this. Hopefully yes. Looks good.
That one dude looks like Abraham Lincoln.
Netflix need to make more hand to hand combat anime! Appreciate this!
May 23rd?? Just marked it on my calendar. Can't wait. The main character reminds me of Khabib Nurmagomedov from UFC. Thank you Netflix!
Wait, THAT Garouden?! I only ever read about the Tanba one and I KNOW that this will be a banger! Good job, Netflix!
Kinda feels like baki and Kengan Ashura vibes and I am here for it!!!!
Where Tanba? Where Matsuo Shozan? Where The Great Tatsumi? Where Tsutsumi? This ain't Garouden I know.
Fujimaki doesn't even look like himself, I thought that was supposed to be Tanda. Are they sure they're making a Garouden show?
It takes place in the Garouden novel universe, it has nothing to do with the manga
Eh?! Shut up its on !😂😂😂
Me encanta el echo que al final aparece bunshishi tamba. Esto apunta a ser una precuela a lo que hizo Juzo en Garouden. Como que estaba haciendo mientras huia de la ley
Is this a anime based on Baku Novel and Itagaki’s Manga? Looks different. I liked it until I got halfway in. Got too Blue for my taste. It’s first half though was legendary! The Whole Wrestler Past Arc effected me on emotional levels I never thought possible!
Edit: Okay, looks a bit different…
The same
We got Baki, Kengan and now even Garouden on Netflix. The Holy Fighting Tetralogy will be complete if Netflix gets their hand on even the Tough series.
Is not based on anything, this is the continuation of Jyuzo's story straight from the novel's end.
@@catlike4456 So this picks up off where the manga left off on the cliff hanger?
@@JoeInTheElement If we get Tough too I'll lose my shit
As a longtime anime fan, I'm impressed by Tea Anime's vast library and up-to-date simulcasts. The streaming quality is top-notch, and the community features are a fun bonus.
This garouden looks way more different than what I am used to. For me my only knowledge is the manga garouden illustrated by itagaki . The same guy who does the Baki manga
The only character that I can recognize is the judo who is probably Juuzou but he looks so different compared to the manga. Maybe this is basedon the novel instead.
Jirou Taniguchi also worked on his own adaptation of Garouden. It only covers the first storyline though, where Tanba seeks a rematch against a pro-wrestler who beat him senseless back when he was dojo hunting.
Thank god it doesn't look like Baki
The novels are from 1985, Garouden inspired a lot of Baki and MMA manga back then, so before you compare this to Baki or Kengan, this novel was first
The characters i am most excited to see is Tsutsumi and Kurama.
Ислам Махачев теперь в аниме от нетфликс, поднялся парень однако
Внатуре он) тоже грепплер
This looks sooo goood im excited!
Baki should be animated like this ☝🏼
This reminds me of Shootfighter Tekken aka Tough.
Let's hope that Netflix gets it's hands on that one as well. And the holy martial arts combat tetralogy will be complete. Baki X Kengan X Garouden X Tough.
never thought anyone would mention Tough but i still looked anyway
@@JoeInTheElementalso don’t forget all rounder megeru and Holyland.
@@OmegaKatanaXIII My man!!
@@JoeInTheElement yup more anime like this needs to be made tired of the battle shohen and isekai.
When I first saw this it immediately gave Kengan Ashura vibes except a bit more realism or equal to, but Kengan Ashura has more realism than Baki. I'm possibly going to watch this.
Don't watch it till the end it's gonna ruin the experience, ending fking sucks
The whole show sucks.. dont waste your time man
@@alexdelarge1375 it is not finished yet. there will be 2nd season.
Fujimaki as the main character? That's odd but might be interesting and since Himekawa is in this trailer will see if they show their fight.
YES!! About time Garouden got another adaptation. Can't wait to see this. A real shame that people credit Itagaki Keisuke for this IP though, considering Yumemakura Baku is the real mind behind the original novels that seem to be the inspiration for this series.
Song is FIGHT & PRIDE by AA=, ur welcome.
Watched it, I do not advise anyone on watching it.
This is probably the first anime out of 30 that I've watched that I sincerely did not like.
This looks awesome
Where is Tanba??
В конце кто то похожий на Танбу, жаль акцент сериала не на нем. Но возможно если первый сезон будет оценен зрителями достойно, то второй сезон сделают про Танбу
Whenever I see the word "garou" I always remember terry bogard from fatal fury who is also known as lone wolf
Just by the thumbnail and without seeing the length of his hair I was like, THORS, IS THAT YOU?!
Why did they change the art style?
Many things have been changed. The animation looks awesome but they've very much toned the brutality and gritty feeling of the original manga and games here.
I'm not joking when I say that at 0:09 , this scene in the manga is very different. The true reason on why Fujimaki kills the perpetrator and how brutally he does that are not here in this anime .
The manga and this show are both different adaptations of the same series of books.
If they use Itagaki's designs, they will have to pay him. They use original designs so they only pay the IP use.
Oh Netflix....finally it feels like my subscription is worth it! these martial arts anime are my favourite.
I hope we get to see Matsuo and Tanba! 💪
This goes hard of pure raw beastly instinct to test your might against might; even the music and beasts roar goes hardcore...
Actually Netflix is giving what real men wants to watch!!
Where tanba at?
2:04
@@stranger-sama no scar?
@@KILIM-fd8yj yeah, idk why he doesn't have the scar also.
Looks awesome.
Looks sick, id really love a street fighter anime that ties into sf6 the game, street fighter deserves a good series and a film
Garouden vs Baki next year, I’m calling it :)
Who else has just been rewinding to the shoes over and over again?
Name of the trailer song please.
This is like a better version of Baki, that doesn't look and feel ridiculous...
When looking at the thumbnail, I thought it was Thors and this would be a spin-off from Vinland story
I'm glad by brought Garouden! I thought it'd be about Bushinchi Tanba, but I like the focus on this character better
Ready for this
Baki, Kengan, now this. What a wonderful day.
SOME BUFFED GUYS DO SOME BUFFED GUYS THINGS AHH ANIME 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥, imma going to watch this anime
i'm still mad that himekawa got up and knocked out nagata after getting the kou-ou performed on him IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE HE WOULD BE TOTALLY KNOCKED OUT PLEASE but maybe in this they'll fix it if they go that far...i'm still mad
Why didn’t they use Keisuke Itagaki’s art style for the faces? 😢
Its not garouden ist garōden
