  • Is there still a role for the all-wheel-drive family wagon now that SUVs have a steadfast stronghold here in Australia? We pit the newly introduced Holden Commodore Tourer against perennial favourite, the Subaru Outback and the VW Passat Alltrack in limited edition Wolfsburg guise to see which comes out on top.

    Subaru is best.....I’ve had 4 of them now since 2007....very good space, quiet cabin, great handling, great off-road ability....and a full size spare alloy wheel. Been more places than most so called 4 wheel drives. Hilux, Navara etc. kicks butt everywhere.

    I have a 2015 Diesel Outback.....it's a superb car. I have the premium model with sunroof and heated seats, I tow a small trailer and it's used for work. I have had 3 years of trouble free motoring. It's the 3rd Subie I'ved owned ( I've had 2 foresters as well ). All 3 have been by far the most reliable vehicles I have owned in my 30 years of driving....

      The Diesel in the outback is one sad motor, that’s why they always test cars wth the petrol motor. We looked at one and after driving the diesel, which is the engine we wanted then drove the Passat which had a great motor however customer service made us leave the dealer. We ended up buying a Toyota Fortuna and are very happy with our choice 3 years later. My brother has now owed about 8 Subaru’s due to the resale he gets being a rep on the road and turning cars over every 2 years,

      As I own a TourX, I can tell you that the Holden is terrific in snowy conditions. In several inches of snow (4-6"), I could not shake the TourX's twin-clutch torque vectoring AWD system. I agree, Subie is by far the more technically offroad-capable winner here (and I admire the brand for that) but for my money, the TourX beats it in every other category.

    VW - Great car, although a bit expensive out of this bunch, has a nice DSG transmission and very economical.
    Subaru - Awesome ride, has the Eyesight system (perfect for safety), economical, may be expensive to device but still a great car. Looks refined inside and out
    Holden - Shares the same design as the Vauxhall/Opel Insignia, making it look a little bit unappealing, but still has the same qualities and driveability of a good ol' Holden!!
    My pick: the Subi

    Only the Outback is suitable for safe travel on gravel or rugged roads with decent ground clearance and X-mode traction. Spacesavers are an abomination in any vehicle marketed as suitable for off road use.

    • @DavidKent0407
      @DavidKent0407 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @alelx jines I agree with what you have said about the refinement, handing and power of the VW Passat Alltrack. I was discussing the lack of a full sized spare wheel, off road safety and off road traction which are only important when you go travel road gravel roads or go off road which are very different issues.

    ZB Tourer Calais in every area except were the Subaru can get too. Save ten thousand by dropping the "V" off the Calais. Do you really need a $3,500.00 glass roof, vibrating drivers seat, softer plastics and a sun glass holder lid?

      Wazz Zappening ...and that is why cars have unnecessary weight. Add to that electric mirrors and seats? I think cars need to go back to basics, get some weight down and the advances that have been gained in fuel economy and efficiency will be even more impressive.

    • @wazzzappening4848
      @wazzzappening4848 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed agreed 1969cmp. Some beneficial safety advancements aside.The main motive behind the usually unnecessary bells & whistles from the manufacturers is extra profit. Walk into a new car showroom hot and the sales people will always try to justify every noninclusive extra. $$$$$! I am looking at a new ZB Tourer Calais,the 7 year warranty is attractive but against a used VF series 2, 6.2 litre V8 Calais V with 48,000k as low as $39,990 in which no doubt will now increase in value as time goes by. It's seems a no brainer.

      Had a rise in an VF SS the other day. Very nice.
      I also like Falcons even if they ceased from any serious updated from the FG onwards. That straight four I think is still one of the great engines and mated to the ZF six speed was a good package.
      The 6.2 sounds good. Lets hope the Greens do not get their way - EVs for all. No thanks.

      The naming is so confusing. The last generation comodore was the Chevy SS here in the US.. meanwhile y'all's Opel VXR is our last generation Buick Regal while the new commodore is our new Regal. It definitely should've been called the new VXR. That's a hella letdown. Like the regal and SS share very little in common.

    • @nessuno5403
      @nessuno5403 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Landon Combass well said! Of course, before that, the coupé Commodore, the Australian "Monaro", was also your Pontiac GTO. These cars and especially your SS (an updated Pontiac G8) was exported in small numbers just to make Holden production a bit more viable until closure. GM never had major plans for more exports or support on purpose, because of the American unions (understandably) wanting to protect its workers. And lastly, the saloon on which the GTO was based, was developed from a modified Cadillac Catera platform, itself an Opel/Vauxhall Omega... which kind of is in the lineage that takes us to today's Insigna/Regal/Commodore!

      Your a fucking nut job, Toyota makes the most reliable vehicles on the planet followed by Honda and I'm a Subaru owner saying this. Volkswagen = fucking Garbage and I've owned 2 of them and both were problems after 40k Miles. Now as far as my take on Subaru goes its a real love hate relationship partly due to the way I drive the thing, I love how my Foresters can off road with lifted Jeeps on a stock suspension, I love how it can outrun a Mustang GT on the road of course mine is modded thou and an XT model. But reliability on the other hand is a problem after 120k on the Odometer. And your name is inaccurate as fuck.

    • @Xyb3rTeCh

      Zeki Patan the only good thing about toyota is that they build reliable cars. But they sure hell boring to drives. Trashy diving dynamics, fuel guzzling, and cheap. At least we all know Subaru is the better car maker compared to toyoscrap and fuel guzzling honda.

      Wrong you've clearly never driven a Supra

    • @Xyb3rTeCh
      @Xyb3rTeCh 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Zeki you know Supra may be the iconic sports car from Toyota, but too bad its no longer in production. Its a shame that Toyota is not giving enthusiast their great car. At least Subaru's WRX STI is still in production till today and they still offer stick-shift. Meanwhile, the rest of the manufacturers are pretty much going towards dual-clutch or CVTs. So that's kinda sucks. And yes, I rather buy a Hyundai/Kia rather than Toyota/Honda. Let me take an example, lets talk about SUV as many people nowadays are pretty much gravitating towards family oriented SUVs. Honda's CR-V is an absolute terrible car. It may have the power and handling, but its gas guzzling. Suspension on Honda's isn't as good as the Subaru Forester or Mazda CX-5 (Oh yea Mazda rocks too!) and meanwhile Toyota is always and still a fuckin underpowered shitbox with boring interior and lack of decent build quality.
      Also you dickhead, when you say Nvidia is the has the best GPU, you are basically losing on the fact that AMD GPU are known to age well like a fine wine and its architecture is actually far superior than Nvidia's. Just take a look at majority of the miners who actually utilizes AMD cards. Their cards purely on raw power while nvidia tends to do lots of optimization. And when it comes to mining hash rate, Nvidia just suck thumbs.
      Intel cpu outlive and AMD processor? Now you are the fucking nutjob. Then tell me will Intel quad-core could handle the future? AMD Ryzen is currently the best CPU and with addtional cores, no doubt it is the best CPU that everyone knows that it is a futureproof CPU that will definitely outlive Intel shitty quad-core processors. You are basically mad and got it wrong.
