My dad played an early 80s Toaki in his band when I was super little (0-3yrs old). This video made me very happy as I was too little to see/hear/remember him playing it, wld love to get 1 for him for his birthday this year, he's 65 this year.

Lovely playing I watched it all. I bought a Tokai springy sound strat in the early 80s and I still have it in original state. Lake Placid blue with metallic flake finish and a tiger stripe maple neck with maple fret board. Out of all my 12 electric guitars I would chose this one if I had to gig tomorrow. When a guitar sings to your touch you know you have a good one, it always wants me to play it more and I usually do! Thanks I'm off to plug it in again and again. :-) Roddy.

Tokai, hermosas guitarras. Ingualables.

Saludos!

Nice playing. My TST50 is a year younger than that and it's a great guitar.

This is an earlier model from 1979 as it has the trussrod plug like a 50s neck.

    私も初めて買ったのが、TOKA Iのシルバースターでした。
    とても重くて、それが功を奏してか音が良かったですね。

you can still get japanese strats for under 1k. For some reason the collectors haven't noticed them yet like they have the les pauls. When fender initially contracted to have fujigen build strats, the initial strats that made it to the US became highly collectible. They were the supposed to be the low end of the fender line and were labelled squiers. Those guitars had been built for greco by fujigen and they were B grades (the highest is A grade). In Japan those guitars are greco st and they have different grades from 500-1200. the highest arethe 1200's and you can get those for around 1200 and they are comparable to custom shop strats. Get the models built before 1982 and all the necks were still shaped by hand so no two were exactly the same. Get a modern custom from fender and they are all cut by cnc routers.

Great explanation.... How do you recognize a model prior to 1982?
      Thx

Early springy's from 78 to think 1980 had plug like a 50s strat would have. Trussrod at the heel.

this tokai wasn't even the top of the line model. this was an intermediate grade and listen to how good those mid grade japanese pickups sound.
