Vic Boss was a name given to Snake during Peacewalker by the Sandanistas, released after MGS4. It's unlikely you're remembering correctly considering this.
Loved MGO1. It was definitely different and had its quirks but it was so cool. My friend would come over and was so addicted to this game. We'd take turns playing , eat pizza, drink way to much soda and eat a shit load of candy and eventuality pass out on the couch with the game still running. Ahhh the memories

I was guilty of doing this and walking around with a flamethrower. i feel bad looking back but i didn't abuse it all the time.

This was my very first online game I've ever played, after that was Halo 2, then COD. The OG MGO is still my favorite online experience ever. When you would see a FoxHound on the other team and know you're freaked! I was so happy when I finally got decent at the peek shots. All the noobs were on burst or full auto. Once you got the peak down, it was all about single shot, finally in this post but not least with MGO, the fools who would DB(dead body) lmao!!! Such a great time. I remember doing a try out for a clan and had to take them all on in a kill house. I got accepted and updated my online ID from Rez to KH-Unit Rez hahaha okay I'm done
I've always hated that clan "must update ID tag" shit. Talk about a waste of money for some hive mind mentality scam that won't even last forever anyway.

I played a ton of HD collection peace walker online. Best I could describe it, it was like mgo1.5 It did the job after mgo2 shut down. Last I checked it was completely dead, which is such a shame

Never got to play this online back in the day. I always thought I was missing out on like 80% of the game with my copy of Subsistence. I already owned MGS3 since release, then bought Subsistence for the extra content, and was so disappointed I couldn't do the online bit. I even had a 4 player multitap for my PS2, and I remember wondering why they couldn't have also had split screen for this mode.
i didnt even know this game existed and i played mgo on mgs4 from beginning to the end and still play it on savemgo. no wonder mgs4 was so good, this game is exactly the same they just polished it up

This is on a fan server via emulation (it is playable on PS2 with some modifying). Yes people still play; however, some effort is required to get a match going. If you ask in the MGO1 channel on our discord you should be able to get a game filled up. All of these clips were taken last year (2022).

Memories! I loved how the cardboard box worked on real players. I forgot about the MSX music for the Snake mode.
I loved Portable Ops Online and MGS4's multiplayer. I never got to play this, but I know I would have loved it too. No experiences like it since.

You still can play, and you should. MGO1/MGO2 are very much still playable with emulators or native hardware on our fan-made server.

They shut down the servers a long time ago, you can only play it through emulation on PC now

Regular characters were GRU soldiers, KGB and Ocelot unit.
Unique wise it was Ocelot, Big Boss, Reiko/Rowdy Reiko, Sokolov and Raikov iirc.

Not many concurrent players on MGO1. To get a match you usually have to coordinate on Discord. MGO2 however, is very active.
