@@systemsproceed248 It's a reference to Edward Platt who's playing Lou here- Platt famously played the Chief on other very popular 1960's sitcom "Get Smart" and that was a famous line used on almost every episode by Agent Smart. I couldn't resist 😁. It's a 60s thing... 😄
@@jason60chev You just made my night! 😆 About 10 yrs ago I thought I was having a stroke (turned out to be nothing but a potassium drop out of the blue, but anyway) I called an ambulance and my sister told me to take an aspirin. When the paramedics were transporting me they said "oo- actually aspirin not good. Aspirin's good for heart attack but not stroke". Later that day when I related the story to my brother, he looked kind of like "Yikes" and said (of our sister's error) "Oops. Sorry about that Chief" Omg it was so funny - It was a welcome laugh after the day I'd had! 😆 (and yes, my poor sister was indeed horrified that she had gotten THAT wrong!! 🤯 Very unlike her, and of all things omg.)
But Rob tried to say forget it and he also tried to lose. I think if I had been Lou I would figure out that Rob's actions were a mistake on his part. I wouldn't have been angry at all I think Lou is a hot head.
I noticed that too! So cool. He was a great talent in everything he did including the many Sid Caesar shows. I usually don’t pay much attention to the directors or writers on these, but now I feel like searching for Howard Morris’s directorial filmography.
I never realized how many of these episodes were flashback. No wonder, as a kid, when I first watched these I had a hard time with the time lines. I used to think they had no kids in earlier episodes but now I realize those were flash backs.
I was 11, and the oldest sister who entertained my younger siblings playing cards. This show gave me the BEST idea ever. I didn’t forget‼️ You can guess the rest 😂. We, six, are still around 😅
How about that?! This episode was directed by Howard Morris.. from Sid Caesar’s many great old shows! I always liked “Howie” Morris as Mel Brooks used to call him. Very cool.
We get a few quick glimpses of the "fourth wall" behind Jerry and Millie's closeups. With their backs to the audience/cameras, they had to pick up those shots after the main performance.
I was scratching my head trying to figure out your comment, then it hit me ... she played the wife of actor Bob Crane/'Hang lip Harry' in the Cleopatra episode. Good one! 😉
That's a really stodgy and unpleasant Edward C. Platt as the former D.A. Platt suffered a period of such extreme depression that he tried to kill himself three times and finally succeded in his 50's. Don Adams from Get Smart was a friend to him up till the end.
@16:24 min. Love it when they carry Ritchie out of the room -- and this happens in a couple of episodes when Ritchie innocently reveals something, and they quickly want to silence him.
I'm just watching on MeTV right now...Rob WAS a little annoying with his singing and super perkiness, Lol...And Platt IS a GROUCH...nice ending...pleasant, well, it was okay...I think...decent...goofy???!!!!!
@@shorty7363I saw him as a mean person. Especially when he put an angry face and turned away when Ritchie walked in twice. The first time the wife told the ex DA that Ritchie was adorable and shakes his shoulder to look at Ritchie, but he just kept looking at his cards and wouldn't turn to look. I'm still wondering why the ex DA was so upset and wouldn't turn to look at Ritchie like he hated him, maybe he lost a kid, or was afraid of something.
Rob Reiner is 8 years older than Mathews. Acting talent (or lack of it) aside, you either would have needed a different actor swap (if you did it mid series) or a different character entirely.
I sooooo appreciate whoever posted these EXCELLENT episodes...thank you so much!
Love it when they let Dick do his magic tricks ❤❤
Rob could've just said "Oops. Sorry about that Chief." 😁😳

Bro, I love that show!! I didn’t know any one else watched that! I’m only 14 too!
@@CamilleGG451 Carl Reiner created "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and his best friend Mel Brooks created "Get Smart".
“More water?! Is this a kid or a camel??” 😂😂
Ahhh good clean funny television. Miss them days.
"I'll get you a drink of water, and show the kid where the beer is". LOL
Qué bueno poder ver nuevamente esta maravillosa serie de tv después de tantos años. Me encantan estos comediantes especialmente Dick Van Dyke.
Thanks for the upload.❤
Jerry seems to hold a certain degree of reverence for Laura. He always vouches for her beauty and honesty, sometimes more than her own husband does.
As a kid I played Rummy with my mom, who wore glasses. She wondered why I always won!
I would never have thought of looking at my Mom's glasses. I couldn't win even if I cheated. Not good at playing games. 😅
😂
I love this episode mostly because of Guest Star Edward Platt
That $10.00 that 'Rob' won in 1964 is equivalent to about *$96.00* in 2023! 😲 I'd be just a little angry too if I had lost!
Wow !

@@wiseguymaybe Sorry about that, Chief
@@benvye4279 No that was Max not Chief. You missed it by that much.
...and now, in 2024 (just one year later), $10 is equivalent to $100.75. (Inflation? *What* inflation?🤔)
Directed by Howard Morris! Ernest T. Bass on Andy Griffith

I was explaining yesterday to a fellow music student how Dick Van Dyke and Andy Griffith were on parallel career paths

Interesting about seeing the cards in one's glasses.

😢 that's sad
Ah 😢
I never knew this…sad; like so many actors we just never know the internal struggles.
11:40 Even if Laura takes no cards, they don't have enough cards to deal out 5 to 7 people and a total of 16 draws!
Hi Sal.
😆 It's all those little things we love about this show!
@16:24 min. Love it when they carry Ritchie out of the room -- and this happens in a couple of episodes when Ritchie innocently reveals something, and they quickly want to silence him.
Rob isn't even looking at the other cards. What difference do the marked cards make?
I think he was a good kid actor
@4:44...Dick van Dyke "broke the fourth wall"; maybe from force of habit, playing his magic tricks before live audiences.
Petty Crime in the city
Cheating in the suburbs
Great show but ended with a weak denouement i ... still, at least the show isn't based on dimwitted humour ....

The ex DA was a miserable..... person
Yes he was, but that is how they wrote the script. I don't know why they would make him so mean.
He wasn't mean or miserable. He was just a matter of fact type personality.

QUIT INTERRUPTING!! 😐
Considering Larry Mathews was a horrible actor, they might as well have let Rob Riener play "Richie".
That might have been cute (except that Rob Reiner wouldn't have been any more well-known than Larry Mathews)
