In this video, we will conduct an experiment to see how fast we can cook a turkey. I will cook one the traditional whole bird style and the other I will spatchcock it and test how much faster it is than the former. While cooking for the Holidays time is so precious. The quicker we can cook the main dish the better. It frees us up to do other things in the kitchen. I will go in depth on how to spatchcock a turkey and the way I like to cook it.

I've been doing spatchcocked turkey on the grill every year for at least the last 5 or 6 years. It's the best result we've ever had, always moist, and it is amazing to cook a 15 pound bird in around an hour. No more getting up at the crack of dawn to spend hours cooking!
Great video! My Thanksgiving disaster happened awhile back. I had carefully cooked what I thought was a fresh ham. When it was done it just didn't seem right. Turns out that the grocery store had mislabeled a picnic shoulder as ham. I had family en route to my house for Thanksgiving. I had to rush to the grocery store to try to buy an actual ham. They had none in stock! Learned an important lesson - know your cuts!
Deep fry, deep fry, deep fry . . . . . never had a bad one! Faster than oven-cooking a spatchcocked bird. (Yes, I understand the risks and take great care to follow every safety precaution.)
It also preserves your oven for all the other side dishes that need the oven space . . .
The oil usually costs more than the turkey! Maybe you can use it in a diesel vehicle!
No thanks too many chances for 3 gallons of hot oil to create a bad time for somebody.
I have for years used the Safeway two hour method. I had to cook for turkeys, stuffing and mashed potatoes with gravy for office parties.
Wow, turkey fail! Not yet. As to butter compound. Mom taught us this as kids 👧. I’m now 71. And yeah. Excellent! Thanks mom. I’m making My Turkey. Your way! Always something New for me. Lovet
Compound butter; also add rosemary and Thyme. Even a little chicken bullion. 😉
Worst turkey fail. When I was a kid, my dad owned an appliance store. He got a panicked call from a lady who said there was smoke coming out of her oven. My dad went to diagnose the problem. She had set the oven to self clean. The turkey was reduced to some charcoal and ash.
My biggest mistake was with the first turkey I ever roasted. I bought a fresh bird from a local farmer that had a reputation for raising the best tasting birds in the area, and paid a premium price. It was a total failure. I learned later that I should have removed the feathers… and all that smoke OMG! Have a Happy!🤪
I count you a friend ❤
Got a request, could you video how to process a whole in the bag beef arm roast, my way is to steak the whole thing, really want to know how you would process the thing ✌️
Carnivore here, your beef chuck roll how to was the best of all !!!
Keep up the good vibes and dedication to good eats 😁👍😎
Also, how do you cut a in the bag beef sirloin ? Local met cutter say’s is easy, but I disagree, NOT easy to find the cut grain, for me anyway 😂
Failure is nothing more than success in progress 😊
Did I miss the wishbone removal?
Removing the keel bone and ribs was something I don’t do but will try next time as well as sexing up the under side.
I do however brine the bird so that is probably a big difference
At what point in the video would you spatchcock this bad boy?
Could you do a deep fried turkey next? I spatchcock cocked mine last year. Planning on deep frying this year!
Every bird. Every time.
I've only cooked a couple of turkeys in my lifetime, and they didn't have good taste, so I stopped cooking them. However, I'll be doing primerib for Christmas this year.
I spatchcock all my poultry, it works so well I got rid of my rotisserie.
When I cooked my first whole turkey (being used to roasting whole chickens 🐔) I did not check the neck cavity of the turkey so the turkey giblets got cooked in the bird 😅
my worst Turkey failure was when I 15 I tried smoking the turkey at 275F in a weber kettle and I expected it to be don in 8hours turns out it was 19hours. Had put out wet wood cips on and it gave an extremely of putting taste. Also it was before I not to use match light charcoal. I used the snake method.
I cooked a turkey that was so big I could barely left it .. got it prep and into oven was easy .. but then the trouble happen .. got the turkey out sat it on oven door .. that was easy .. but it was so wonky with all the juice it was like a ocean of turkey wave juice .. I only had a few feet to go from oven to counter top .. that’s when it happen the corner of the baking pan got hung up on the edge of the counter top .. and then it was a nightmare onto the ground it went .. juices and turkey flowed like a river 😮.. so grabbed a kitchen towel grab the Turkey threw it onto the counter top .. I Stood and cried 😢my gravy juice was no more .. 😢so I said I will never cook a turkey 🦃 that weighs more than me ..! It all worked out but the gravy was not my best .. lol 😂 I will never forget 😮that .. lv your vds could of used this vd 20 yrs ago lol ❤️❤️❤️❤️
At what temperature do you cook the split turkey, and for about how long?
Everything was done except the turkey. We just went ahead and had turkey free Thanksgiving dinner. It was done after we were full so it went home with friends for sandwiches. Since then I always make extra sides. 😂
What kind of pan did you use for the spatchcock turkey and what temp. to cook it at?
Well now, let's have a look.
I'm gonna send this to my brother as he's the one doing the cooking these days. Thanks.
Not a big problem, but your mike was rubbing against the shirt at times.
As for the pdf I was expecting a straight-forward download. The page has the box for an email address. Are you only going to use the email for the pdf or am I going to be getting other emails? I like watching the videos and learn from them, but my spidey sense is suggesting I ask about the email address request. Thank you.
How long did it take ?
Is it ok to thaw a turkey, break it down then refreeze it?
Worst turkey disaster: burning the stuffing by cooking the stuffing beneath a spatchcocked turkey at 450 degrees.
Small households don't neet to get whole birds, but instead could get the breasts that have stuffing rolled in them. It gives enough for 2 to 3 meals which is just enough. Otherwise you'd be consigned to eating turkey for a week or more which makes it less attractive. The smaller option means that you can enjoy it often without having to wait for a big holiday.
It wasn't really a disaster when I did barbeque turkey by smoking it is an ugly drum smoker for 10 hours. The meat was falling off the bone. Everyone agreed that it was delicious but it was too untraditional for Thanksgiving.

I went to Georgia to marry my husband. The oven didn't work well, and he was worried about me cooking in it. I cooked the turkey and it was beautiful. He was amazed. I kept in the oven on warm. The oven must have turned into an inferno because that turkey burned on warm. 😭 It was the worst smell in the world. It didn't look ir smell like turkey.
I guess not a technique for bad wrists. Lol first turkey is always the worse turkey
You can save even more time by skipping the turkey aka the most overrated meal of the entire year.
