I grew up with Superman in the 90's, this is the closest figure I've seen of that. The rest have a jaw like Quagmire, or look like they've been stung by a bee, and are allergic.
I’m thinking the reason why this works even though he’s janky, is because the head, chest, and cape look really good. That’s always been the visual focal point for Superman. His arms and legs could still stand to be a little better tho.
4:45 The wristbands are there because it's just reusing the action comics 1000 design which was the updated version of his classic suit with the trunks (which was the first Superman that McFarlane released) and he's still kind of has them now but most artists forget to add them. I have no idea why the sides near his back has that texture The only reason why I could see them having it would be that they are doing Suicide Squad video game Superman kind of like how they did the one year later Tim Drake Robin but the body was just a repainted version of his original look but the og suit got released later.
I fancy the light blue colour scheme. But dark blue is nice, too! I also personally fancy the Superman ‘S’ symbol/emblem on the cape; it accentuates the Superman aesthetic, giving the iconic comic character a more pronounced look. Moreover, the S-Shield is the Kryptonian symbol for ‘hope’. That in mind, I, too, am not the biggest Superman fan. I much prefer Batman. However, this is a rather brilliant-looking Superman - and that cape is quite lovely. Thank you for sharing, Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧🇮🇹
I prefer dark blue on my Superman, but not muted, just more rich in the blue. I’m glad you like this cape. I think this is the BEST cape for a Superman action figure. This has strong wires, so they help the cape drape straight down, which is amazing.
I tried helping Mr. McFarlane with this new line when it started out of respect for what he represented for the western AF collectors community in 2000 but after a couple of waves I just gave up. Occasionally there's one or two figures that catch my eye but unless I happen to find them at a very good price I wont buy them. Thanks for the review Anthony.
In my opinion there's not a single McFarlane good superman so far, all of them have awful body sculpts and those with decent body sculpts have horrible head sculpts
This the Best one, for $20 bucks with everything it comes with, it’s definitely finding a good home in my collection. I’m waiting on the Christopher Reeve one the most 😌.
I got a modern looking superman a year or two ago (I'm getting too old to know exactly what version I got. Not new 52 but it fs looked modern) and I was really satisfied with the proportions and look of it. My dad always told me to get a classic superman in my collection and I think this will be the one I choose. Thanks for the review Anthony, its always nice getting your take on if a figure is worth it or not
I usually like darker blue, but as far as classic Superman goes, I prefer the blue that's used on the Hush Superman: not dark but not light either. As far as McFarlane molds go, the Superman from the Page Punchers Black Adam Wave is still one of the better Superman figures to date IMO.
I agree it's definitely a mixture of good and bad. So strange how they can't just pick the best molds to make the figures all around good. For the cape logo I can take it or leave it and prefer the dark blue and regular red suit colors
I believe that the Christopher Reeves superman had a small symbol on the cape, the oversized one too much, but it's ok.Might get the non gold label one
@@AnthonysCustoms kinda. I picked this up to replace my other “big hand” Superman. I’m not as much a stickler on anatomy, but agree the figure truly looks amazing but the articulation is pretty problematic. And I love the cape too
I'm in the camp of having the symbol on the cape. It isn't supposed to show the red through it, though. It should be all yellow with very thin line work.
Nicely done calling out all the flaws and weird McF decisions. I have tons of McF figures, but only for customizations. It's always 1 step forward and 2 steps back with them. I'm done with McF.
That's the first Superman you reviewed almost five years ago. The main differences is the non sculpted S shield and the cloth wired cape. The paint has a different tone, but it's the exact same figure.
@@AnthonysCustoms I just posted the comment because you said you don't follow their announcements. By the way, you might have missed the pre ordes on the regular Christopher Reeve release, only available on chinese platforms as far as I know, but you might be able to find in stores when they release the figure. The page punchers version you will be up for pre order tomorrow at noon, probably will sell out within minutes in case you're interested.
Best McFarlane Superman, but that's not saying much. I would love if Jada Toys could get the DC license. One can dream. I prefer a lighter blue and no Superman logo on the cape
If jada get their hands on a mortal kombat/DC and a Marvel/capcom license, they would cook things that would make the most premium mcfarlane and marvel legends figures look like a McDonald’s happy meal toy
That's too bad the body seems to be a Frankenstein of old figs, the headsculpt is one of the better Supes they've ever done. Loving the cloth/wired capes of late too, my Damian Robin's cape is great.
Typically I'm indifferent to the shades of blue and red on Superman but they should always be a bit brighter than we got with the Zack Snyder movies. And I think Superman is one of those characters who's logo does not need to be on his chest and back just keep it on the chest. Even with its flaws I do think it's an overall good-looking figure I definitely would give it a 7.
Mixed bag here, I like the painted-on S vs the sculpted, and yeah that metallic paint is nice, I do like a logo on the cape but not huge like on this figure. I hope I can score this one but I may try to kitbash him in parts
even though i know this is the old release superman with some little new things added, for some strange reason i want to get it despite being on a bad body and one jointed elbow. hope they make a good one using a speeding bullet body mold with this
I was expecting this review. I've been wanting a decent Superman from Todd for the longest time. Let's see how I feel by the end of it. QOTD: I prefer the lighter blue tbh, so I'm not loving that in this figure upfront. Regarding the logo on the cape, I can do with or without, I don't have any strong opinion on that, I think it depends on the overall design. For example, I don't think it would've looked great in Henry Cavill's suit, but it looks really good in David Corenswet's new suit and in the original Christopher Reeve's suit. EDIT: Damn it, I did not know he didn't have two fists. Overall, I think I am okay with picking this up, but only if it doesn't get too expensive here on my country. This is not worth the gold lable title, but to be fair we've known that that lable meant nothing since it started.
Id say both the dark and light blue are completely fine. Each fit a different continuity of superman. Perhaps dark blue with a realistic face and light with a cartoony? The cape i strongly prefer no added S
I think its the bigger superman mold people like swapping the arms and thighs with and it does wonders. I'm kinda impressed with upper torso, it looks better than i remember.
I’ve wanted this but it would be great if any Walmart even stocked this line so I could get it not on eBay. I do wish they used the rebirth Superman arms and legs since those look better on this body but the blues don’t match because this is different. Guess I’ll just stick to the original action comics figure with swapped limbs
I dig it. It’s not perfect, but they’re not many good McFarlane Superman’s out there. I think the color tones are true to the comics. Ordered it through the WM app. Canceled at one store. In stock at the other. Good luck.
It depends on the story being told. For a solo superman i like a light blue, in a justice league setting dark blue tends to look better. Always a yellow s on the cape though
Indifferent about the logo on the cape, I'm just glad it's a cloth cape. I've kinda taken a break from collecting, are cloth capes becoming more of a thing?
I actually really do like the logo on the cape. Maybe not as big as it is on the figure though. As for the shade of blue, i tend to lean more towards his sky blue color.
This mold is strange in that the bad is obvious, but there is just something charming about it 😂. Even the original release was loved by a lot of people.
I like the shade of blue seen on this figure as an example, the logo on the cape I could be fine if it was not in there since it isn't as cool as the spider logo on Spider-Man's back. I wish this figure was retooled even further to not have those weird wrist and ankle joints in addition to giving him double-jointed elbows and a right-fist. The McFarlane-ized details are fine but I feel tempted to work on a part swap with some other Superman figures and just make a custom.
My favorite alternate Superman costume is Superman Blue...(and Superman REd to an extent...yet I´m glad the "main" Superman was blue leaving the red for Flash). I also liked, as traditional ones go, New 52 and the white and black from the Justice League series that later made into comics; Superman Lord. I don´t care for the logo on the cape. Fine if he as it or doesn´t.
Found a McFarland blue beetle figure at Ross it was 5 bucks days ago which is worth it! I love that I add the blue transparent wings on its back and absolutely love the hand option. maybe you could review that please?
Prefer light blue and love the logo on the cape I just feel like it brings everything together well. The reason I don't have any supes figures while he's my 2nd fav super hero is because I can't find one that I like that meets a good face mold, light blue, and yellow on cape....
I'm more of a fan of a medium blue for Superman, maybe a little darker ever so slightly. This one's a little too dark, the Hush Supes was close to what I want color wise. Considering this was literally just the first Superman redone with a new chest and wired cape, I don't hate it but it has all the faults of the original like blue pegs for the wrists, no dual fists, single jointed arms that look weird when posed, etc.
The Action Comics #1000 figure holds up surprisingly well, weird early McF Multiverse design choices aside. But it’s still a weird choice for a sculpt to reuse, IMO.
Superman also doesn't need to be wearing his underwear over his pants either, so I'm fine with the "S" on the cape. Though here, it's not solid yellow and too large, IMO.
U need the S on the cape so it won’t get mixed up with all the other capes on laundry day! Could u image Sups puts on his super suit and they got his and Supergirls cape mixed up! He’d be running around like Frozone looking for his cape!
Yeah, that's a really old body mold reused for this figure but proportionally still way better than that movie Wolverine figure you reviewed a couple of days ago.
I don't have a Walmart in my area, and this is not listed on-line, so I can't really get my hands on it. From what I see, the only improvement on this figure is the cape. Other than that, it's still the same Superman we got during McFarlane's initial salvo. I'm not getting this from the secondary market, because he still hasn't improved much. Still the same bad legs and ankles. This would have been a perfect time to use better legs, but they didn't.
I dislike this Superman mold because of the legs being so skinny. I thought Todd crushed it with the Earth-2 Superman. I genuinely hoped that Todd would be using the Earth-2 body going forward.
For me this dark blue. Is better but I do like both .... and what!! You don't like the logo on the cape? Dude that what makes r the rather simple vape cool. We all have been constantly harassing McFarlane to make his Supermen with the yellow on the back 😆. And the metallic S on the logo is not accurate but I loved it
It's 90% the same figure. The only difference is the upper torso has been swapped. The original had an inlay for the logo and this one is just smooth with the logo painted on.
McFarlane has been gettinf away from inlayed seperate part logos for Batman and Superman. Could that be that much of a cost saving or do you thi k its a design (more comic accurate) decision?
Would you review the JoyToy 1/18 TMNT? Awful figure btw, it's sad that the most decent Superman figures in recent years are the MAFEX ones, and they don't even feel "complete". They're pretty good of course, and I know they're based on specific comic books but that could be the problem, who wants Ivy plants accesories with their Superman instead of lasers or a missile he can hold? Or even a cool base I know the Mezco one has plenty of accesories but pijama figures are not for everyone, including me
Unparalleled puts this banger out and it's amazing. What is going on with Anthonyscustoms and his toy line that he's been showing on his outros. It's been YEARS, and nothing.
I've explained in multiple videos why the project is on hold. Not sure what comparison you think you're making but it's most definitely misguided. I'm not paying people to make a figure for me. I'm designing an entire line of action figures from scratch by myself in my free time with my own money. I ran out of free time for a variety of reasons. Once that's free time is available again, the project will resume.
This is a Good Superman! Great Head Sculpt, Flight Stand Good Paint. The S on the chest metallic look and with the Symbol on the Wired Cape which is a priority for Both 😌. This is an Absolute pick up for my fellow fans of The Man Of Steel .
I mean, definitely, by far, Todd's best Superman. That's pretty sad because this is the first one and all of them that follow suck. Crazy how there's not a lot of good Superman figures, as well as videogames and movies. Dude gets shafted 😂
Saw this at Wal-Mart too and passed. Glad I did; thanks for the review. Are you planning on reviewing the Mafex Zack Snyder Justice League Batman? I've been seeing reviews where a ridge, flashing, or something on the inside of the upper torso is causing scraping on the lower torso. That's really made me think twice. Unacceptable in my opinion to pay $100+ and deal with issues like that, or have to take the figure apart yourself and file it down.
Bought this thinking they finally made a food Superman, but the articulation is so bad it almost entirely negates the good points, especially if you wanted to put this in a classic flying pose. And let's not mention the flight stand. If that's what passes for a flight stand, I will provide my own. Flimsy thing that can barelt hold onto and support the fig.
All these labels they have been doing since the start and making up along the way are a ridiculous confusing mess, they have been from the start and keep getting worse, they need to pump the breaks and streamline them, just make like regular, platinum and gold, that is more than enough
@AnthonysCustoms simply because he's iconic. A big character, popular all across the board. He may have a simple cliche nature, but that's not a bad thing. You can't have 20 top characters who are all dark, complicated, layered, etc. The simplicity of some, breaks that.
Hi Mr Anthony. I Have An Idea For Your Robin Figure. For Robin's Accessory Staff? You Could By Some Different Shaped Dowls As Robin's Staff. If It Helps.

Please Macfarlane, fix the abcrunch and proportions! Other than that I think his line has potential.
That's just a reissue of the Action 1000 comic Superman that came out like 4 years ago, lol. The only thing new here is just the wired soft cape.
Still a great pick up for those who don't want to pay aftermarket for the original
And the chest as discussed in the video.
QotD 1: Dark blue. Light blue just doesn't look good.
QotD 2: Never understood the logo on cape.
Why did they make this with a 4yr old mold? The infinite crisis mold is right there!!
McFarlane has been gettinf away from inlayed seperate part logos for Batman and Superman. Could that be that much of a cost saving or do you thi k its a design (more comic accurate) decision?
I'm guessing it's an assembly thing and beneficial for future reuse as well
Would you review the JoyToy 1/18 TMNT?
Awful figure btw, it's sad that the most decent Superman figures in recent years are the MAFEX ones, and they don't even feel "complete". They're pretty good of course, and I know they're based on specific comic books but that could be the problem, who wants Ivy plants accesories with their Superman instead of lasers or a missile he can hold? Or even a cool base
I know the Mezco one has plenty of accesories but pijama figures are not for everyone, including me
Literally a re release of the action comics 1000 from the first few figs McFarlane did. Only new thing is the cape
The legs are too skinny, but I’m sort of digging this figure. Looks like a revamped DCUC Superman.
There reason for the logo it’s make cape better or makes looks like he’s wearing a curtain your crazy lol
*But Superman shouldn't have pure red colors, he's just a journalist*
I like making fun of that guy because that Daredevil comment was so dumb lol
Superman shouldn't have muscles because he's never lifted anything that was heavy
I will
@@AnthonysCustoms Great, thanks. Seeing the same for the shoulders too
Bought this thinking they finally made a food Superman, but the articulation is so bad it almost entirely negates the good points, especially if you wanted to put this in a classic flying pose. And let's not mention the flight stand. If that's what passes for a flight stand, I will provide my own. Flimsy thing that can barelt hold onto and support the fig.
Royal blue and don't care one way or another about a logo on his back of cape.
Dark blue , as for the logo on the back , Im indifferent .
I Prefer A Figure To Have A Whole One Body.
This is so cool where can I buy edit:plus cool video
All these labels they have been doing since the start and making up along the way are a ridiculous confusing mess, they have been from the start and keep getting worse, they need to pump the breaks and streamline them, just make like regular, platinum and gold, that is more than enough
Todd should see critical videos to their figures.
Not having Superman in your top 20 at least, is kinda crazy lol
Why? He's one of the least interesting and most cliche characters of all time. That's fine but why would he be a favorite?
@AnthonysCustoms simply because he's iconic. A big character, popular all across the board. He may have a simple cliche nature, but that's not a bad thing. You can't have 20 top characters who are all dark, complicated, layered, etc. The simplicity of some, breaks that.
Popularity has nothing to do with my theoretical to 20.
Ok Anthony from the way you were rating it at the end, I KNOW you were thinking really hard about it, like you wanted to rate it higher lol.
I did want to but there are too many problems
@AnthonysCustoms yea hopefully in the future, they make a new mold for Superman with these colors
Hi Mr Anthony. I Have An Idea For Your Robin Figure. For Robin's Accessory Staff? You Could By Some Different Shaped Dowls As Robin's Staff. If It Helps.
Hey Anthony can you review the new amazing Yamaguchi Arkham batman
I will
Is it a good figure?
Watch the review
