  • This week on Prof G Markets, Scott takes a look at Tesla’s new shareholder vote and speaks with Charles Elson, Founding Director of the Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware, about the original ruling on Elon’s pay package and whether the superstar CEO will get his way this time around. Then Scott and Ed break down the latest big bank earnings and discuss “Basel III endgame,” a proposal for stricter capital requirements at banks following last year’s banking crisis.

      Well deserved respect as well.
Mr Elson is one of the better (if not among the best) SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) I have seen ANY PODCAST bring on to explain something.
I saw people like Common Sense Skeptic (CSS) do these massive takes on how Elon was going to be smashed in the Solar City case AND WHEN you look at the material (including actual court transcripts) they presented it looked quite logical to think Elon was going to be smashed. CSS and others have said NOTHING about why they were wrong and they were wrong.
In comes Mr. Elson and its explained in minutes.
This is what happens when people engage genuine SMEs to discuss and explain things.

I fear for this generation. They believe that Elon's compensation package was "fair" as long as they get theirs. What happened to corporate governance and the government's ability to hold these people in check? Thank you for bringing on a competent person to talk about the subject. Perhaps this generation needs a 1920s level event to learn the lesson. What a shame.

Elon Musk, through Tesla, has moved the entire international auto industry and market to electrification. Full electrification is now inevitable. Better, more reliable, easily charged anywhere, and 3 to 5x more energy efficient and cost effective. This is the greatest contribution to abatement of global warming of the century. Yet, the big 3 still drag their feet, because they cant sell electric cars. Meanwhile Teslas are the top selling cars in the world, and the saffet by any measure to boot.
I have several friends who work there, and they say they work their asses off, but they love it. They get paid well, and they feel that they are helping to save the world. and they are, Literally and significantly.
You were expecting to counteract civilization threatening global warming in a generation without extreme effort and some chaos?

My problem is that they didn't care before he hit his targets. They should've done something before the targets were met. And not pay these lawyers $5,000,000,000.00 If the lawyers were to make $20,000 then maybe this wouldn't be as bad... Regardless this is bad on the whole judicial system. Does this mean if you vote the wrong way that the laws will be fully enforced on you. And if you're liberal then don't enforce it the same? Imagine if I agree to do a job and then they take me to court after the job is done because they didn't like that I used the wrong negotiator thus having them keep the product and not pay for it. It's almost stealing.

Americas economy is sloshing around not just American debt but global debt, in addition to the proceeds of global production turned savings over the past 30 yrs. There's so much fat in the system it only hurts small start up's and young people's prospects at first, having raised interest rates and so quickly. Terms haven't even expired yet and bloated assets like property haven't corrected given the suffering present still by unaffordable real estate. It takes time for rates to catch up with the people who hold most of the wealth. It squeezes everyone else first, exacerbating the problem and which proves to be the trigger for lowering rates - when it hurts the wealthiest.

Musk is not asking for more equity in Tesla. He is asking for more voting rights without any other equity (a different class of shares). The compensation package at issue was already agreed upon with the consent of the BOD, the shareholders, and Musk. The Delaware judge made a political ruling which is proving out to be very inequitable to the shareholders. Only in our truly backwards, modern world is a judge acting equitably by damaging the shareholders on behalf of a short seller, and their attorneys (who are seeking 6 billion in attorney fees). The acquisition of Twitter, and its proprietary data, will end up being a major boon to Tesla's future AI aspirations. Personal biases seem to be coloring the rationality of this conversation.

Gravity has nothing to do with Trump stock. Try making this conversation relevant. It nothing but a means to funnel political donation money to Trump.

People at PayPal thought Elon was ridiculous too. People at Intel thought like this as well. Microsoft was moving like this before satya. Guys like this will ruin a great company. Lol. Him saying Elon will blow himself up while he’s b crushing it in real life with like 5 companies. He would never end up on a board. Tesla is public so he’s not some Tycoon Baron of a massive private company. He wants the people to have power over the Governance of Tesla and why the retail investor take their fiduciary responsibility seriously to keep guys like that far away from the company. Lol.

"He wants the people to have power over the Governance of Tesla" was this taken from eyawn's cult pamphlet or something? lol. mr. union buster, right. even people that were loyal to him after him trashing twitter and slept in office to work long hours, impress him, were fired.

Trump is the answer to all the economic chaos going on right now. Tens of thousands of high paying workers are getting laid off right now. I hope Prof G will talk about that.
