The 500 AWHP, AWD, Hillclimbing, Psycho Syclone - /TUNED

- We end our fourth season with probably our favorite subject car of all time, Adam Auerbach's GMC Syclone Hillclimber. This truck is what "Tuned" is all about; customized in every way possible, 100% function with form following suit. It's nasty, dirty, evil, and perfect.

Thank you for staying with the turbo 4.3/awd setup. It's too easy to drop an ls in anything these days, the setup in that truck is what made it special.
It's the 3.8...same one that was in the GN.
@@WhistleTeets85 the original is a 4.3 just like a it's brother the tryphoon
@@WhistleTeets85 nope, not a 3.8, not the same engine. Not close at all. The thing that made this truck special is the fact that nothing special is on it. But it all works well. Live axle, awd system from a van, tb from a Corvette and an 18g turbo. Nothing special at all. Yet the result was special.
@@WhistleTeets85 lol get schooled
@MAD GRUMPYMAN 4.3s are great engines. This one is an Aluminum 4.3 block.
I cannot get enough of this Syclone. I rewatch this video from time to time :)
Same here
Same!!!
have you seen the c10 video. if not check it out it's on drive
I revisit every 4 or so months.
+William Neigum Theres alot of C-10 videos. Which one?
"It couldn't haul anything but ass" My favorite line
I still come back here from time to time just to listen to that magnificent exhaust sound. It's wonderful what a big turbo can do to a nice deep exhaust sound that would otherwise be loud and obnoxious.
Nice GMC. This is professional grade.
In 1999, Mark Guimont and Bob Gibson from Kingston, Ontario drove a 1998 AWD Sonoma with a v6 competition engine of around 350hp in the One Lap of America, and again in 2000. The truck handled very well, accelerated with AWD and was generally set up well for racing. They did quite well despite some issues that you'd associate with a one-off GM show vehicle. Which it was, it was put into a trash compactor directly after the last race.
Just a bit of history which is similar to this Syclone.
This is amazing. I love the Syclone, Grand National, and Typhoon. I would love to have any of the three in my garage. The owner is a true enthusiast.
Yes thank you typhoon the properly set up one blinged out beats any escalade
Or navigator as sexy as the body styles have progressed
I work at a go kart place in Reno, NV, and this guy comes into my work once a week to race go karts! Very nice guy.
This truck has been one of my favorite vehicles since I was a kid, and this one does not disappoint. Love everything about it, especially the radiator in the back!
This video pushed me to start up the search I had started in the late 90's for Typhoon number 13. I had given up hope of finding it but when this video first came out I decided to start looking again. Found it in 2017 and bought it. Had a badass engine built for it last year and working on getting a good suspension under it with some nice brakes this year. Got a lot of work ahead of me but I always wanted to come back here to thank you for rekindling my search for my childhood dream car.
inspector13jjf You are welcome!
This is just an epic build, I love Syclones and this one is just in another level. Bravo Sir!
And Matt, thanks for this season of tuned, it was fantastic. Keep uploading videos to TST.
This guy gets it... Keeping the original spirit of a base vehicle has been something I truly believe in, and I'm glad to see such an example of such, especially on a vehicle as unique as the GMC Syclone!
3rd or 4th time I've come back to check out this truck. Makes me smile every time.
yeah, and i keep coming back to check and see if anyone found the name of this song... seriously, come on internet.
It's probably that royalty-free generic stock stuff. Shazam wouldn't recognize it nor would the google play music widget.
McBango Right there with you, LET'S GET A LINK FOR THE TUNE, TY!
Here due to inspiration for my 4.3
Every time I watch builds like these, it makes me believe that I can do what I truly want to do with my car. Taking an 05 Malibu and doing a drive train swap with a 6th gen Corvette or an 06 GTO. I hope that one day when I complete that build that you Matt, can come drive my car.
"Couldn't haul anything but ass" lmao
Honald Trinton , and pass everything but gas stations..
And it did that very well
I have a 91 Sonoma with 330,000 kms on the 4.3 V6. Best damn vehicle I've ever owned.
Lovers of fast trucks might like to check out the long tradition of small truck racing in Thailand - often diesels and often not as fast as you might imagine (some have to double as everyday farm trucks) yet a real, proper, open access, home grown racing for people on real-world incomes and limited resources - wonderful!
Yeah....I love their scooter races.... Pretty impressive
There's something so special about classic unique cars like this it puts a smile on my face every time I watch this video.
Allways loved the Syclone and the Typhoon, but this is insane! Great car!
Back in 92...rode in one with a 150 shot.... Cassette litteraly flew out of the deck and hit the back wall of the cab ..... Complete Animals....love Syclones
I love builds like this. Amazing job!
Almost clicked away but stuck around after you said kept V6... Great build man! Love my modded 4.3L yours is just a work of art, just WOW!
Excellent build and a damn nice garage!
It is always a pleasure to see an American who respects the car, doesn't V8 everything and doesn't pimp out the car so it looks like a circus car. Great project!
its been 9years. wonder if this guy still has this gem of a syclone
i owned a typhoon back in my high school daze and absolutely loved it....until it broke, but it was the same platform as the syclone and was a fun truck especially for a 17yr old kid.nothing like this beast of a truck here but still brings back memories.nice truck!that thing is wicked..keep up the good work
I gotta stop getting sucked into these videos and get back out to the garage! Nice truck!
Matt Farah!!! this is what i call tuned, no doubt like you mentioned horsepower sells. this is 1 of a few good examples since my last post on your video that has covered all aspects of a tuned vehicle ground up. ben stiller impersonator might be an impersonator however this vehicle is a gem and a true definition of the title tuned. beautiful piece, well covered... not a GMC fan or a truck fan and dont know anything about this car... but im sold, the right suspensions, brakes and a well thought of chassis with weight distribution and weight reduction in mind is never wrong. Once again good job, keep it coming its covers like these that really gets me of how involved people are to their car... its a true representation of who they are.
oh btw love your sub
I love episodes like this. Keep it up, the outrageous builds are the coolest ones to cover!
I too, rewatch this unicorn fly from time to time. Just hearing it tear up the winding roads makes me want to send my little 93 s10 as well.
I wanted the Syclone badly as a teenager.
Matlock Wallace build it now with grown money. Lol.
@303StreetMachines Syclone AND Lightning, niceeee
.
I STILL WANT 1🤗🤗🤗🤗
@@InfluentGlobe9 U HAVE BOTH MY FRIEND 🤔😑🤔😑
What a work of art. That truck is one true definition of creativity and ingenuity coming together to form something badass.
"It couldn't haul anything but ass" lmao... love that!!
Stunning build and that exhaust note just leaves me speechless!
Why put a V-8 into a Syclone anyway? Why not save tons of money and put it in a regular S-15 or S10? In other words, why would anyone buy a Syclone not for its inherent uniqueness, the turbo 6?
MAN I AGREE WITH YOU 100 PERCENT!! TO ME PUTTIN A V-8 IN A SYCLONE MAKES IT NOT A SYCLONE ANYMORE..ITS LIKE PUTTIN A 4 CYL IN A FORD LIGHTNING AND STILL CALLIN IT A LIGHTNING.. HEH
tyeson85 CAPS LOCK WAS NOT NECESSARY FOR THIS POST!!!!
why not just switch to Geico and switch 15% on your insurance while you're at it?
History, if you watch any history on this thing, its the perfect sleeper.
justforever96 , could have used a 1st gen s10 with zq8 suspension and bravada awd and left that one a true syclone
Its people like these who really make the car world unpredictable and amazing!
Not typically into American cars, but thank goodness it doesn't have a LS. Respect
Buddy an LS is the this truck needs....
Glad he kept the 3.8 turbo6. It just wouldn't be a cyclone without it. Same with the GN.
Whistle Teets my gn got a ls1turbo now its way faster and better what u mean
@@WhistleTeets85 what? 3.8 turbo6? Syclones and Typhoons didn't come stock with 3.8L's they came stock with a 4.3L V6 that GM slapped a turbo system onto, and AWD system from the Bravada SUV. Faster then a Ferrari and a GN.
owning/driving a syclone has always been a childhood dream of mine.
.
This is what hotrodding is all about right here...
Nice
GMC Syclone (5.0 Mustang killer) '90s legend that'll smoke ur !@#$, lol
No that's what women who are into tuners do to great vehicles.
Yes, coming from one of fellow subscribers here
I've always had a soft spot for Syclones and Typhoons. This one is awesome.
Love it, I've always loved these trucks and nearly bought one in the past...Amazing project and I'm glad he left the soul of the truck intact, no ls v8.
More video(s) in the future of this build please.
The scoop to the rear mount radiator! Such pretty custom fabrication. Adam you're awesome.
That thing is fucking sick! I love it, it doesn't even sound like a v6. I have wanted a syclone or typhoon since I was a kid
These are the episodes that got me watching tuned in the first place. It is nice to see the Subarus, evos, and other popular tuner cars. but those all have huge markets with off the shelf products someone can bolt on without really knowing anything about engines and car setups. These are the real car lovers. keep it up tuned, another great season on the books. much enjoyed.
I love the style of those S10's And that mother is fast!
Big congrats to the builder! Man, you are living my dream. I had a Syclone for a couple of years in the late 90's, and it was just like the commentator said: good for straight line, but not the turns. I dreamed about putting a 6-speed manual in it, a longer duration cam to get the engine to breathe up around 5500 rpm, redistributing the weight and putting IRS on the rear. I've always been a corner-turner, and driving the Syclone frustrated the hell out of me: it was impossible to carve a smooth arc through a turn. It had a lot of initial understeer on turn-in, then the rear end would come around later on, requiring unwinding the steering wheel.
I've always liked the Syclone/Typhoon trucks...This one goes to Eleven!!!
This makes me miss my S-10 so bad. Had a 91 short bed, I dropped in a 30 over marshall 4.3 and a BW T5. Gutted all the weight it didn't need down to 3,065 lbs. Slapped on some dp90 flat black,14x6 wheels up front, and 15x10s out back. Sure was a lot of fun to drive.
Almost sounds like the rotsun..
+Benjamin Kenney same engine
Yeah I know, just made me think of it
+theduderski what's the engine?
+Sam Markstrom 4.3 v6
Yeah they both had the 4.3s but the rotson has a 7.3powerstroke turbo
This is like every final version Forza Motorsport 7 car I've ever ended up with... but real. This is the sickest fkn Sy/Ty ever . . .
So beautiful
Nice!
And I casted this video up to my TV, for that BIG look.
i hate when car specialist's call WRX'S or the syclone a 4x4!!!! damn.love the truck i remember when they were out.as far as suspension work for cornering it seems like he could fab up something bulletproof maybe adjustable too.it looked like i saw a little body roll on one turn.maybe a 4 link on steroids.LS1's are a thing of beauty, but glad you kept the 6.i had a vette LT1 in a 96 extended cab s-10 with air ride,4 link and 5 speed, that low to the ground it ran great,i miss it lol take care, awesome beast you got
this truck is my wet dream materialized in black.
Greatest. Video. Ever. If the GN was already a black sheep, a creation that wasn't meant to be, Darth Vaders car, what about this Frankenstein? Awd pandora's box of madness, memories of Madmax, Knight Rider, Hellraiser, and Metallica Enter Sandman come to mind everytime I see this Syclone. The hell with exotics I'd rather drive a 5 colored primered, smoking, salvage title syclone driving out a junkyard like Fred Sanford. Great, great show btw. Keep up the good work man!
There are next to zero performance mods retail for an s10/15. However if you wanna slam one, you're in luck!
That's because a V8 swap is so easy.
The stock fuel injection system in these trucks in certain years is their downfall. With the spider injection (center sequential) injectors were not able to be swapped and thus the max one could obtain was around 400hp max with correct tuning. Later years used the multiport which solved this issue, but before that the only way was to swap to a marine intake and run an after market system. Also the 4.3 Z code engines were also multi-point in an era of throttle body injection, thus allowing them to stretch the limits when matched with the td06.
saw this truck make around 650 horses and 775 pound feet at all four wheels on the dyno last year
"Ben Stiller imposter" lol
+Owen “cashmoney” Hoover craft full of eels & wheels huh...i saw that 2....& glassless mirror...lol
Looks more like Paul Ruud.
much respect to matt, n the cars owner, thats one epic build, one epic truck, its left field, and I like that, I often see a GMC Typhoon parked in the same place in central london
Why does this sounds soooo damn good?
thsoe big displacement gm v6s my friend haha. they sound so ANGRY 😈
It really is mean
I'm usually not _really_ into the Mad Max looking builds. Yet here, somehow something shows through and keeps me interested. Great finish to the season guys!
Where he is driving looks like the roads from the movie "The Wraith"
+NoypiTheWhiteBoy Loved that movie!
This is right out side of Reno nevada
@@anthonypacheco1475 correct the road he was driving on was the one from Dayton, Nevada to Virginia City, Nevada. Adam lives up the street from me.
This car ticks all the boxes for me... i come back every now and then to rewatch this episode.
Always wanted one of these
"It couldn't haul anything, but ass" I'm definitely going to use that quote for trucks.
"everything except driving it ive left to the professionals"
that guy has the best job...like really...he gets to go around the world and drive all these cars...talk about a dream job
"Ben Stiller imposter" hahahaha
"It couldn't haul anything but ass" awesome line for this truck. Good video
Why is there even 71 dislikes??...oh wait they must not be Americans lmfao
Donnie Oneill because the bald guy is a douche
Lightning owners 😂
Farah - these are the type of builds you should showcase more often.
I would like to see where he put the coolant hoses and where they run on that truck
probably did it similiar to a Fiero where they run under the truck along the frame rails.
I came here to say that saying AWHP followed by AWD is redundant and silly. But when I saw you didn't throw an LS in it I stayed. And loved the build.
10.3 @ 132 mph in the 1/4...that's all i really cared about. Sweet.
Scariest part of 341 is that some of the turns are off-camber, which is sometimes hard to appreciate with the incline. Knew several people back home who had to make the wall vs. oncoming car vs. cliff decision. Always choose wall. Also random bicyclists.
Great episode.
Ben Stiller Imposter. lmfao
.
I LOVE IT!!!! GREAT VIDEO AND A GREAT BUILD!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!!
That's my friends dads car!
Gage?!
+Adam Jr Auerbach what
+Quadrider250 yes it's gage
+Quadrider250 Small world
+Adam Jr Auerbach I know right☺
a tuned american truck NOT built for only racing in a straight line? love it. and that bloody noise it makes. god, it's awesome.
At 88mph does it go back to the future?
Working on adding that capability as we speak!
I would help but I have no flux capacitor sorry
Well it was nice to not hear a bunch of truck hate for once. I really think the tuned team needs to visit houston so they can see more modified trucks like this. They are out there and they do preform you just have to knock on the door in the right city.
They don't feature diesel unfortunately. Would love to see an episode of tuned with a Twins Cummins.
What is the song in the very begining??????? :))
Thumbs Up for a crazy built. Most people don't understand what goes into this type of built.
is it 4wd or awd?
Viscous coupled all wheel drive.
ok wow no wounder is handles surprisingly good
.
They do an excellent job capturing engine noise in these productions.
music name please??? anyone
I think that Truck as absolutely awesome! Its a lot of wrench work involved. But it looks like the owner knows what he is doing. Very cool finale.
Would be nice to have "Music Used" in the credits or something
Loser.
RandMan14 You seem bored. Why don't you go find out this music for me or something, since I am still curious. Run along now
+insanitystudio loser
why u do dis
I've been a fan of the r34 since I was 8, the grand national since I was 11, and the syclone since 13. This is a Frankenstein of my dream truck, but it's amazing!!!! The fact it's still a 6banger with most the original dash and awd is badass, turbo 6 bangers
WHY DIDN"T GM SEE THIS AS THE NEXT BIG THING?! American performance cars should have been AWD! FR-based AWD! NOT FF-based! All GM had to do was maybe bring back the Monte Carlo and/or the Grand Nat as a Mid-size/large AWD sport coupe. In not Chevy or Buick, then give it to Pontiac so they can do something to justify themselves, in big way. The G-body was not that big back then, so something about that size would have been awesome.
FR-based AWD?
JD
I think he meant Rear wheel drive biased AWD system...
JD
FR = Front-engine, Rear wheel drive. FR based AWD examples include the GT-R, BMW AWD cars, AWD Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, AWD/4WD trucks and Truck based S/CUVs. You take out the Front wheel drive components of an AWD vehicle and it is still a RWD vehicle.
FR based AWD cars are fairly uncommon becasue of the prevulence of FF, Front engine, Front wheel drive, cars to which AWD is often added after the fact, like the Ford Fusion, Mitsubishi Lan Evo, among others.. Purpose made FF-Based AWD cars include most AUDIs and Subarus.
vix121
Nope. "based". FR-based AWD...
If you take out the Front wheel drive components of an AWD vehicle, it can still function just easily as a RWD, as a FF-Based AWD will function as a FWD with the RWD components removed.
FR based cars are uncommon because there aren't many FR cars this is done to, these days. But FR-Based AWDs still occur, like the GT-R and BMW and Mercedes AWD versions of their RWD cars. CHRYSLER and GM have similar offerings but there are desperately few Purpose made FR based AWD cars.
Nobody would buy them, look at the GTO.
Fantastic! Very nice indeed - Custom fab is what we need more of. Plus with 3D metal printing you'd think we'd have more of stuff like this.
What is the intro song?
Henry Windsor I wanna know too!
Thanks matt for including a quarter mile time. Also as always keep up the good work.
Reagan
Sould i suggest my 532 bhp Lancia Zagato
That truck is completely bad ass man! Incredible build and uniqueness! Sending lots of respect your way haha. Great episode
Meanwhile in Australia... v8 ute racing is completely normal...
(a ute is what you yanks call a pick up)
Phillip Tunstall lol utes..some of us already knew that one &
we have NASCAR pickup racing for some reason
been down under for a lil while, got in a V8 ute, still shiting my pants 5 years later
weve been racing puck up trucks forever.... pick ul truck is what you koalas call ute
Krevin Grard el camino (68-70) is my favorite car but its technically a truck...
Krevin Grard guess that makes since
These are the kind of builds that I like. Straight from the heart builds. I want to see more of the clone :)
i want to see an r32
I hate trucks with a passion but this is fucking legit, I'd drive that!
Oh come on, you can't shit on ALL american vehicles (besides the syclone)
Much respect. I pulled next to one at a light. I didn't even think about trying it. Like he said 0-60. :-)
i want it but needs a real paint job
Every time I get around to getting the truck ready for paint, I need to modify something else from a functional standpoint. On second thought a race track can be pretty brutal to a nice paint job.
HighPerformanceTruck Cool build man. Great to see people doing unique stuff. Every week I feel the comments section is full of people who don't understand the premise of the show, so don't pay too much heed to the haters. I like the rough and ready look; going fast makes everything look cool anyway.
Vary true just my opinion this is your truck?
PainEditz
Totally understand. Yes my fast pig.
HighPerformanceTruck Amazing build :) i love it tho so different shoot if u lived close id pay u to help me build a car
