The Tessuti dress is gorgeous on you Kristen…even with the overlocker accident! I can see why you’re saying you’d prefer a more drapey fabric, but i think you need to have a look again at your twirls (as Hayley would say!) and you will see how gorgeous it is!

Nice save for the Tessuti dress - I wouldn’t have known😂. It turned out great. Love your silk duster. And thanks so much for the joy of a Sunday morning video with a cuppa😊… for those of us in the southern hemisphere.

The Sylvia in the silk is gorgeous Kristen and you’re so right, we do save our precious fabrics and they should be made up and enjoyed! Oh no, I felt your pain when you were talking about the overlocker accident 😢. All gorgeous makes and plans. Oh I like the look of that new caplet jacket. Off to check that out! As for sewing, I’ve just finished a few shirts off with another ready to cut out, trying out some different styles and preparing for the welcome cooler weather 💐

Solids are always excellent to have to widen the ability to wear prints in the wardrobe and that tercel linen is going to make a wonderful Jenna shirt. I have a striped Jenna shirt, a Jenna dress in the Coyote and lion fabric from Gabriela Larios for Nerida Hansen and a Fran set in some quilting cotton I had initially bought to back a quilt I was making for my bed and because I don't have the quilt top anymore I used it to make the Fran Pj's - the print is similar to the green and rust print you've just shown (but it's blue and a mustard colour) and it came from the collection called Cuzco. I'm unsure as to if I will finish them before Wednesday as this is hip replacement day for me. If I get to sewing the buttons on, then I'll take them with me to hospital to stitch the buttons on and then I can wear them. I wanted to squeeze in some knit pants and t shirts also be one has to be realistic with time. If I don't get to all the things then I can have them cut to sew when I'm home just like Hayley from the Hay meadow did when she had her surgery last year. My wardrobe is extremely sparse so I naturally want to sew all the things.

I love to wear dusters, they are the perfect layering piece (in my opinion). Cardigans are often too warm for me, but dusters are perfect and I plan to make up bunches of them.
Somewhere there is a picture of me standing on our front porch in the 1980's wearing a dress that I swear is almost exactly that Tessuti dress, but without pockets. Now I am feeling nostalgic.

That Sylvia is absolutely lovely, and I have 4 meters of silk that I bought in Italy in 2018 which I am constantly worried about getting eaten by moths before I figure out what to do with it. Tempting!! It's silk satin though, so I'm nervous about sewing with it. I love that you did the trim in the cross grain because it looks SO incredibly stylish.

Hi Kristen, thank you for sharing your sewing ups and downs. Shame about your tessuti dress overlocker misshap, but great recovery in creating and finishing a lovely wearable garment. Congrats.

That deep blue/indigo is gorgeous on you. The overlocker incident resonates… last week I caught the side of an ikat top in my seam finishing and the ikat weave is so loose that there was a hole when I picked it out 😢 But this stuff happens!

Your new makes are lovely - good save with the Mattea dress - no one would ever notice! I have made a couple of Mattea tops in plain linen, which I'm very happy with - my new woven go to basic top - have just finished a white one to wear under a caftan type jacket similar to yours - made last year from the Pattern Emporium Songbird with 3/4 kimono sleeves. I also have made a friend a couple of Tessuti Eva dresses and she wanted one with a bit of shoulder coverage for work - she suggested I put the Mattea top onto the Eva dress which turned out really well. Have just finished the Jenna shirt ( have to sew on all those buttons yet!) and love it - I downsized 2 sizes as I didn't want it too oversized particularly on the shoulders and am very happy with the fit. Already thinking about the next one!
I love the look of the Atelier Jupe caftan - may have to get that pattern!

Always dread putting a hole in my garment when I'm overlocking a seam; go slowly and make sure everything is flat underneath. Once when making a dress for a wedding I accidentally had the iron on too hot and burn a hole in my dress; ended up doing applique with pearl buttons around it and it looked like it was meant to be! Also worry when I'm doing button holes on my Bernina 1230 that they will all be the same size but it has never let me down. Glad you could fix your dress.

Great minds thinking alike! I just finished the Jenna shirt in a linen stripe using the cropped version and I absolutely love it! It’s my first classic shirt with collar and stand and tower plackets and cuffs, but has come together beautifully as it is such a great pattern. I am also sewing the Tencel Linen in the Sienna colour right now! Making it into some Chanterelle pants, from Sew Liberated.

Hi Kristen, Im loving your silk duster. I have this in my stash too and have been saving it for something special. The duster showcases all the beautiful detail of this fabric. Did you prewash it, and what did you use?
I have been working on an upcycled skirt in a cotton sateen polka dot and stripes. Ive got way out of my comfort zone by cutting up a designer dress that was originally a box pleat skirt and mesh top. Its now closer to a straight skirt and Im loving how its looking. No patten, just using my other skirts as a guide. I have enough fabric from the box pleats to make a second skirt, but contemplating a PE smitten Jacket with some interesting panels from the lengths of scraps to make up for any shortfalls in fabric.
BTW I overlocked Tessuti Eva dress in about the same spot- great save on yours!

Hi Belinda, sorry for the late reply! No I havn't washed it yet but I'm thinking it wont need washing very often unless it gets dirty. You really need to use it because it's so nice to wear!

Hi Kristen. Love hearing your plans. I am looking forward to seeing how the Jenna Sews up. I kinda dismissed this pattern as not for me until I saw the dress version. Now I'm kind of interested. I have a smaller frame and often too much fabric or over sized garments swamp me. I am looking forward to seeing what you think of it. Love your plans and those beautiful fabrics ❤❤

Love your silk jacket. I like the cropped jacket pattern you could wear over a sleevless dress. As for me I want to make a cropped bomber style jacket and a skort to match. I think sewing shirts is very difficult for me I am looking forward to seeing that make.

Hello Kristin what about doing pleats instead of gathering particularly on a heavier linen. For example you could try reducing the width of the gathering rectangle and have five small pleats in the front and back. The pleats could be centred front and back and the rest of the rectangle without any gathers. I agree the fabric is too heavy for the pattern. Otherwise a lovely pattern and the colour and design look lovely on you. It reassuring that you too have some mishaps 😊Love your hair too. ❤
