The 1971 Kenyan Coup Attempt | A Chronicle

  • While most people are well versed with the happenings of the 1982 Failed Military Coup by a group of Kenya Air Force Officers, very little or nothing is said of an earlier coup plot in 1971. Though the 1971 Coup Plan was scuttled before execution, it was the first attempt at power grab in Kenya. This video uncovers details of the little known 1971 Coup Attempt.

Today's owners are just but thieves.

    At least the reasons for the coup attempt were somewhat valid. This compared to some coups that happened in other Afrikan countries. The GEMA oaths to consoidate power over the other nations(tribes) was going to be our undoing. The divisive poitical structure still haunts us.
    It shows that tribal politics was engrained in our political system since independence.
    So sad that we still let tribes divide us rather than let our diversity be the our strength.
    We need to rethink our political structure, frankly the system that we have still works for the white man who colonized us rather than for us. We are still not free, Neocolonialism is alive and well.
    The time is now!! Decolonize your mind. The future of Afrika depends on it.

    • @adroapatricklumumba1618
      @adroapatricklumumba1618 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well said.
      Our diversity should be our strength.

      Gen. Ogolla told him that he had no answer. That he had noting to say and that if that was the problem, he (Ogolla) was okay with not being given the job.

      In 1979 Uganda exiles in Tanzania, Kenya led by Gen Tito Okello, Gen Bazillio Olara Okello, Gen Oyite Ojok supported by Tanzania President Julius Nyerere and Kenya VP Oginga Odinga( close friends Obote ,graduates of Makerere and same ethnic group) launched a rebellion against Idi Amin through Mwanza/Lake Victoria restoring President Milton Obote .
      In 1980 Yoweri Museveni disagreed with Obote and Launched Luweero war . Gen David Oyite Ojok(one of best trained soldiers in Uganda history, at least 6 years EU,US) died in a plane crash on his way to Luweero . This changed the direction of the war . Between 1981-86 Paul Kagame and Fred Rwigema together with other banyarwanda tutsi exiled in Uganda fought alongside Yoweri Museveni in Uganda .
      In 1985 regional/nepotistic disagreements between Uganda National Liberation Army Commander, General Tito Okello(Luo-Acholi) and President Milton Obote(Luo-Langi) over the promotion of Smith Acak Opon(Luo-Langi) to replace the late Gen Oyite Ojok(Luo-Langi) instead of General Bazillio Okello(Luo-Acholi) caused a coup against Milton Obote . Gen Tito Okello became president(1985-86) and Gen Bazillio Okello became army commander . Daniel Moi called peace talks in Nairobi between Yoweri Museveni and Gen Tito Okello . The agreement(witnessed by Ambassador Bethwell Kiplagat of Kenya) required Gen Tito Okello to be president and Yoweri Museveni to be vice president . THE TALKS COLLAPSED when Soldiers allied to Yoweri Museveni and led by Rwandans Paul Kagame and Fred Rwigema continued a push against Gen Tito Okello led Soldiers mostly Luo-Acholi,Luo-Langi in Uganda including Airforce Commander Major Alfred Otto, Airforce Cpt Harry Oluoch,Cpt Peter Oringi,Major Stephen Abili,Lt Col Wilson Okonga,Lt Col John Ogole, Buffalo Commander Major Eric Odwar.
      Yoweri Museveni became president of Uganda in 1986 . Paul Kagame became head of intelligence in Uganda and moved to the US FOR MILITARY TRAINING . In 1987 a rebellion against Yoweri Museveni was launched by LRA Luo-Acholi led by JOSEPH KONY , Alice Auma Lakwena , Dominic Ongwen , David Otti, Okot Odhiambo ,Raska Lukwiya ,Nixman Opuk Oryanga ,Ceaser Achellum ,Bunia Ocan . By 1990 banyarwanda tutsi led by Fred Rwigema , who had been deputy defense minister in Uganda, had launched an offensive against president Juvenal Habyarimana of Rwanda . After the death of Fred Rwigema Paul Kagame returned to Rwanda and became head of RPF . Habyarimana plane was downed in 1994 . By 1996 Paul Kagame and Yoweri Museveni supported Laurent Kabila against President Mobutu Seseko in Congo . Laurent Kabila was also supported by Banyarwanda tutsi in Congo(Banyamulenge) who form the bulk of M23 led by Sultani Makenga . Laurent Kabila became President in Congo in 1997 . Paul Kagame became president in Rwanda in 2000 .

      @@janendegwa5462 Come on! There were Kikuyus involved in the coup attempt of 1982. Some were of even higher ranks that the coup leaders. Seek the info and you will find it.
      Secondly there is nothing wrong with overthrowing a despotic regime. If a despotic regime fails to be amenable to peaceful democratic change, then that alone makes a violent change, including a military coup, a legitimate process.

    My personal opinion is Kitili & Ndola both got a deal from Jomo to resign, live quietly and never touch pol;it is and they’ll be free. I don’t think Ndolo was killed but died of a genuine road accident. Kitili’s definitely a hi but by Moi after thinking just because Jomo died he could now get into politics again freely.
