this is actually insane I can't believe it even manages to run as well as it did I think most of the sluggishnes comes from the missing graphics drivers as the cpu usage wasn't pegged
Looking at the driver options in the initial installer in a VM test (where the only driver that works is the generic VGA driver) I'm pretty sure there is a generic open source NeoMagic driver installed. The 64MB of RAM and the fact that the swap is used as much as it is makes me think that that's the problem more than graphics.
Great video! you managed to install ubuntu with a DE on such an old machine! i have a ThinkPad R50, running OpenBSD as a server. you should try it, its very minimal.
@@DistrosProjects oh great , i realy wish to see it soon couse it is hard to find videos like this and i think this video literaly took 6 or more hours can't imagine how many hours will take to make an another video on this old machines

This was very much like a Michael MJD video. Same intro, even. Only thing missing was "and everything went wrong." 😁
My dude has the "I use arch btw" laptop
Whats the best OS to run on these and 600X? I'm interested in gaming.
Windows 98SE has good forward and backward compatibility. For drivers, use download.lenovo.com/eol.
Has your 380xd always worked? I have an ED with no display to the internal or external and idk why
I have no idea what the issue is, I'd imagine a ribbon cable is broken or something is dislodged internally tho.
Suprised it ran at all lol, wonder how Puppy or DSL would run?
Probably slightly better, but tbh puppy Linux is pretty bloated for a “lightweight” distro. Idk about dsl though.
@@DistrosProjects Iirc it was bloated in terms of hd space, but it was light on ram and cpu. This was a few years ago though
nice video mahn, and can you run like nano linux on this machine ? can you make more videos with this machine? 🙂
I put in a bigger hard drive recently (80GB, enough to break Windows 98 ScanDisk) and I will make more videos with this machine at some point.

😯😯😯, that is cool
Thanks!
try puppy linux - super fast
Haha this video is great
Thanks!
Sorry, you forgot Warty Warthog 4.04.
There was no 4.04 release of Ubuntu, the earliest was 4.10 Warty Warthog.
@@DistrosProjects you are probably right, it has been some time ago.
