    Fun Fact: I began watching this series bc I misread Turn A on a timeline graphic as the *beginning* of the Gundam UC timeline, not the end.
    Best mistake of my life.

    My only hope is that Tomino can share his final message to the world without it blowing up in his face now that G-Reco got the second chance it deserves with the compilation movies. With the last two movies set for this year, I can only wonder how it’ll all come together.

    You mentioning Luzianna in Turn A reminded me of how when I was watching Super Dimension Fortress Macross (a show I highly recommend), episode 19 constantly was mentioning my home province of Ontario Canada and how funny I found that.
    Also, high tier take on the Turn X. I'd legit pay for a Real Grade model kit of it if that ever existed.

    Turn a Gundam gave me the following things I can't forget:
    My friend and I could not watch the whole thing.
    The second OP is great.
    Edward Elric/Naoto Shirogane became a Gundam protagonist who fights evil Mu la Flaga.
    Gundam has a mustache.
    And finally, Loran is the BEST pacifist gundam pilot written the right way.
    ......Oh and he somehow looks great in a dress.

      The whole soundtrack for ∀ Gundam is incredible… I literally watched this 15 years ago as a fansub and the music still echoes in my mind. And it really feels like Correct Century **is** where the endless cycles of war and violence must end up: Society bombing itself back into the stone age again and again until finally both sides realize we've done this before … and consciously decide not to do it again.
      What about those Gundam universe that appear not to be part of ∀ Gundam? … Eventually, someone decides not to listen. It's like those kids in Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. The kids have just faced war and its horrors and only Al really took it to heart just how tragic war is. The others? Don't worry, soon there'll be another war with even cooler mobile suits! And they were right. Operation Stardust, the Gryps war, Neo Zeon wars, plural, on and on… Even LaPlace's Box didn't really solve anything, did it? Not for long.

    This is a wonderful video. It’s nice to see someone cover Turn A Gundam, it’s such a masterpiece but it’s also highly under appreciated and even a bit obscure. Even many Gundam fans tend to avoid the series because of how different it is. I’ve seen hundreds of anime now, and Turn A is one of my personal top 3.
    The series is a piece of art I would want to show to people even a hundred years from today.

    I just finished Turn A Last night. So it's still very raw and I don't have a cohesive thought about it yet.
    What I can say is that it's in the top 3 Gundams I've ever seen.
    There are some things I think needed to be a bit clearer. There's a vagueness and mysticism to some stuff which is fine, but they needed to clear cut some of the things.
    Like Queen Diana revealing her identity to Loran. It was off screen. WHY WAS IT OFF SCREEN? "Hey Loran I need to tell you something." Another scene happens. We come back to them. "I can't believe I didn't know." Stuff like that is important to me. It's big and they make it feel small.
    There was some real Batman going on in this show as well. So many people were left alive so that they could destroy cities later. Like how many times can you beat Lt. Poe or the Mahiroo corps before you finally say "Ya know what. No." Meanwhile Will Game gets Will Game'd. Are you kidding me?
    I honestly didn't even realize the Moon decedents were left to die in space. Like what? Remember Loran and Queen Diana meeting Keith's grandmother-in-law. I don't even think it was ever mentioned to Keith even when they were directly talking about said person.
    I feel like I'm missing something sometimes. Like are there post credit scenes I didn't know about every episode?
    I watched 50 episodes. This is one of those shows that really needed to resolve the plot by Episode 49 so that we could get a full episode of epilogue, because I just wasn't. . .onboard with the mini scenes of stuff. Reward your fans please.
    But. It's phenomenal. I honestly have Queen Diana and Kihel Heim as the best co-stars in the franchise. I was so invested in their stories and how it intertwined that I couldn't believe it. I still can't believe it.
    Loran and Turn A were great. Sochie was hot and cold, but that made her a complete character to me. Half the time I'm like "Goddammit Sochie!" Other half ". . .c'mon pull through Sochie." Harry was great! Just straight up. He was great.
    Over time even characters I didn't like I ended up begrudgingly nodding in approval for. Case in point Lt. Poe. I wanted her gone forever. You know what little thing that happened that made me uhh forgive? No . . .accept her? When she cried when Queen Diana returned. I was like "This traitorous. . .wait a minute you. . .care?" I was actually in disbelief. Like I loved that Diana was speaking with Kihel and told her "You've lived among Diana Counter. You above all people should know they are good people." Like these guys tried to perform a coup and you still had their backs. Cuz she's a goddamn queen!
    Turn X was great. So it took some time for me to accept it's design. And the action scenes of the show itself are. . .only passable, so you're already starting out with a handicap in regards to me respecting the machine. They pulled it off in so few episodes too.
    The episodes with the nukes were great. They really had gravity to them. And they are an INSANELY good misdirection of how the Dark History came to an end. You'd think they were the cause.
    Last thing I want to talk about was Agrippa. He did not have enough . . .force to himself. . .to have been soooo. . .influential regarding Earthly things. It felt whack. Up his like. . .I don't know but FIX him.
    9/10 show for me btw. I've seen about 8 Gundam shows overall. I expect this to eventually take #1 spot as I mull things over. It's just TOO RAW RIGHT NOW. And I feel incomplete after finishing it.

    I cried more at the end of Turn A than any point in Victory because I went into Victory planning to avoid any attachment. The girl at the end who'd been so poisoned by tragedy and hate that she'd destroyed her chances at love ended up making me so much sadder since I wasn't ready. I get some people may have found it neutral or even funny "Silly space racist gets cucked because she never stood a chance to start with" but she was a kid who lost a lot and coped poorly.

    27:30 He did a lot of passion project in the mid 80s such as Ideon (which is one of the influences for hideki Anno for evangelio btw) and also created a novel called the wings of rean which he make an adaptation as Aura Battlers Dunbine, the same as the novel but with mechas thanks to Bandai being part of the production team, is basically the first anime Isekai, yeah, it's exactly what you think but it was fresh at the time, is kind of still is though.

  • @soragranda

    27:53 Victory was more of revenge... Bandai and sunrise make tomino rewrite the content of Gundam CCA like three times, the one he liked the most was Char Counter Attack Beltorchika's Children and even that was ditched, imagine rewrite something you love, make it to being something that is arguably great... And they still make you change a lot of stuff, everyone will be mad about it.

    • @soragranda
      @soragranda 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@angellara7040 That is not true at all, they did make him rewrite a lot, reason why high streamer has had more segments on earth for example, tomino had plans for it to be a duology, CCA:BC was his most ambitious version of the script.
      The new type baby of the most powerful new type makes sense, also, the only thing the kid did was guiding the feelings of other kids on earth (via the psycho shock of Amuro and char, which also happened in the movie) to make the axis shock and pull the axis off earth, it's the same in the movie but instead of kids from earth was randomly zeon and federation soldiers last wish (which was super random since char wasn't going to surrender, he was resignated after the axis shock begin with Amuro which makes total sense).
      Tomino never try to change the movie script, the existance of high streamer and beltorchika children are the fault of sunrise and Bandai ruining tomino creativity to fit a schedule he didn't agree with (which is why he was so mad with them).

    There will never be another Gundam series quite as unique as Turn A. The 90's in general were a very experimental decade for Gundam (G Gundam's tournament fight premise; Gundam X's post apocalyptic setting; 08th MS Team's realistic mech battles). I feel that 90% of Gundam series from Seed and onward are too derivative of previous iterations in the franchise. The fact that Sunrise and Bandai have been focusing a lot more on the Universal Century in the past 10 years could be a sign of creative bankruptcy. Gundam Unicorn is a prime example of this.

    • @thomasffrench3639
      @thomasffrench3639 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eh the 90s Gundam shows besides Gundam X and Turn A Gundam were really derivative. Even G Gundam just combining the Brave Series and Shonen battle shows, but was held up by the talent of Imagawa. At least the post 2000 Gundam shows were creative with the premise such as 00 and IBO, even with it not reaching their potential.

    You know, I haven't seen Turn A yet, but I will say that for a show with the most Androgynous protagonist, it has one of the manliest-sounding and fitting theme songs in the entire franchise (Turn A Turn), complete with lyrics foreshadowing the grand reveal and adding to the whole "all roads end with Turn A" concept!

    0:45 Interesting and confusing fact : G no reconguista is the canonical sequel of turn A, being set 500 years in the future, meaning they used the correct century and the reguild century at interchangeable times (this is confusing since technology wise it can be a sequel but it's waaay too advanced, this can be solve by saying that maybe moon technology was more advance than what was showed in turn A or that some colonies that went out of solar system at the end of the Universal Century eventually return, that said it was never explained where exactly they got the turn X technology but we know is from outer space, a far away solar system from people that migrate after the end of UC, where CC begins?, We don't know specifically, but it will be possible that there more century's before after the end of UC, the beginning of CC is after a war that erase earth and the solar system technology with some exception).

  • @sayansaha155
    @sayansaha155 ปีที่แล้ว

    Turn A I think is an encapsulation of Tomino's original UC timeline I feel. The Gundam mythos was born out of the hellish nature, unfairness and destructive potential of war. War, and how it affects people. There were two aspects of Gundam 0079, the war and the characters. Well, one character : Char Aznable. It's his story. And his death at the hand of Amuro (kind of) during Char's counterattack. The proof that Tomino liked Char more than Amuro (just cap) is that he was killed off screen in the original story of Crossbone Gundam. But nevertheless not counting Unicorn (since I'm not sure Unicorn Gundam was a part of Tomino's original vision of UC) and it's Char representative in the form of Full Frontal, Char did get a happy ending in Gais Gear in the far of late UC0203. One of his two aspects of the original UC got a bookend ending. Now, there was one thing left. The very foundation of Gundam, that war is unfair and hell, must be changed. Turn A Gundam finished off UC, by dubbing it the Correct Century thus showing this is how it all should be, and it ends with the titular characters finding peace after a war for the worlds. Further cementing the fact that Turn A Gundam stands at the end of all Gundam timelines. Why Tomino tried to f*ck with the lore (probably to piss off Bandai and Sunrise) and say the G Reco comes after Turn A due to the reappearance of the deadly Moonlight Butterfly, I'd say they are the race of humanity that eventually created Turn X in the future of the Correct Century. Sunrise opted for a more supernatural explanation, as the Correct Century may not be the end of all timelines, but the Turn A Gundam itself is. In UC Chronicles Light of Life Turn is depicted to destroy a civilization on Earth and turn it back to the stone ages (kind of) and it showed that everytime Turn A destroyed a civilization, within 100,000 years another timeline (i.e. alternate universe) was born. And destroyed again. The cycle will continue again and again and again until the heat death of the Gundam universe and the end of all times will be heralded as the God of all Gundams Turn A. And as to why I said Turn A is the God of all Gundams despite there being stronger Gundams such as Phenex and Unicorn? Well, they are locked in a stalemate never ending fight with the Ideon creator of new humanity in an alternate dimension letting our Moustache moon god have an ever vigilant grip of the state of human civilization. If the last portion did a complete 360° turn, just watch Boofire191's G Saviour is a masterpiece video.

    Loran is by no means looks more girly than his contemporaries(within gundam at least), other than the context you've gathered from guins view of loran, he's androgynous much like predecessor kamille and his distant descendant bellri

    turn A is one of few titles I'd recommend to someone when they ask what gundam should they watch though I'll still warn them about the slow burn on the first half

    • @knghtbrd
      @knghtbrd ปีที่แล้ว

      See, I wouldn't recommend ∀ Gundam as a starting place for for someone because of the slow burn, because it is a full series, and because its full impact happens when you get to the reveal about how the Correct Century fits into everything else.
      If I know it's someone who's going to appreciate the seriously depressing ending and the realization that people just don't learn, I recommend Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. If I don't think they're going to be ready to get into the rest of the series of series after such a downer, I'll recommend 08th MS Team. I can tell someone all they need to know about Gundam to appreciate either one in a few moments:
      Space colonies … treated like colonies by corrupt government/military. Some break away, but the people who end up in charge are basically space nazis. So … not an improvement. Major atrocities, half of both factions dead, they're practically (sometimes literally) recruiting children to fight. The common soldiers are just people-some good and some bad-most having no idea how screwed up the people at the top are in either camp. Oh, and the space nazis had humanoid mechs, and the Earth military was losing until they developed their own. Now both sides are trying to develop better weapons before the other side wins.
      Good enough for OVA. And if that seems interesting, either OVA will tell you if you want to get into Gundam or not IMO.
      (IBO is also an interesting starting point, though for that one I don't give any info until they're in season 2… Then I only ask a question: "How do you know who the good guys are?"

    honestly if more people were ignorant and blind to the fact mecha is much more than strong robot go boom
    and its more war is bad message especially coming from the gundam series, it would be so much bigger,
    turn a is what I describe as a studio ghibli movie and gundam had a love child and that love child was
    a beautiful lil creation. I want to see this community and series as a whole make a big comeback and starting a new chapter for gundam and the view on mecha as a whole

      When it first was on Toonami all those years ago, I hated G Gundam because it was absolutely ridiculous. Now, I love G Gundam because it is absolutely ridiculous. Take the Gundam formula, stick it in a blender, add a dash of super robot quasi magic, and just go fully off the rails and see just how batshit crazy it can get. That's what they did, and it's glorious.

    I think one of the reasons why I really love Turn A is because of Loran's skin color. his dark skin really allowed me to see myself in him as I am a dark skinned South East Asian kid when I first watched Turn A way back when.

    Loran The Man is absolutely freaking awesome. He was originally written as female, but the studio execs apparently vetoed it so he got written as very femme and crossdressing a lot, and taking repeated nutshots. But he's one of the most solidly kind, well-intentioned characters in Gundam.
    Also, fun fact about Harry's shades - They're prescription lenses, without them, he's almost completely blind. And Guin Lineford is, apparently, the first openly gay character in Gundam - he's low-high-key interested in Loran, but his influence and power trap him in a situation where it'd be nigh suicidal to come out as gay, so he treats Loran as Laura.
