    Only one thing that needs correcting is the RTT - smittybilt is an American brand but those tents aren’t made in Australia, it’ll be Chinese made like every other brand. CVT, ARB, 23ZERO etc, they’re all out of China sadly.

    Very well thought out build. I’m looking for ideas and found a few good ones here. Have to look into the smitty bilt tent. I have a small tent and was going to build to accommodate it. I’m using aluminum tool boxes for storage stead of a box type design. Two 6’ side mount boxes with doors on the side instead of top, one opens upward and the other opens to a lay down position. There is a shelf running full length inside separating the two compartments. Then a 40” aluminum box up front at the tongue with a expanded metal box below it. I’ll add a small gate at the back and use the interior area between the boxes as fuel and water storage. I like the integrated solar. I’m doing the same using a ECO Flo 1300 solar generator with 4x 100watt solar panels. Working out how to transport the panels on the trailer. Probably below the tent platform above the de boxes. I’ll build a box to house the generator with air flow and then case around it for rain protection. I’m thinkin out loud here, sorry. Great video, thanks for posting it.

      Love the idea of truck boxes with external access. One thing I did not like about my build was reaching stuff up in front of the trailer. I now have a cap with built in side boxes on my truck. Will never have a truck without this option. Better to have some solar exposed while driving to charge batteries while driving during the day. I had them mounted on the two vehicle with a heavy wire to the batteries in the trailer. Good luck with your build. I'd like to see it when done...

    I was curious if you know how much the tent and I'm guessing its platform weighs on its own before installation? This is along the lines of what I wanted in terms of building and towing behind my touring Harley-Davidson. My trailer fully packed with camping cargo and additional wife cargo comes in at around 350-400 lbs. I was hoping to stay under 500 lbs if I could.

    Hello, I am definitely a fan of your awesome set up. However, I have a couple of questions. I hope you can help me with. I love the fact that the trailer has been constructed with a low center of gravity with the rooftop tent mounted lower for easier access. However, I was wondering what type of steel you were using For the uprises and also the base of the rooftop tent. Are you using angle iron or box steel.?I am concerned about the steel or weld cracking with the movement of the trailer on the road. Also, are you running a torsion? Axle or leafspring. My other thought was to convert my 7 x 12 cargo trailer and mount the rooftop tent on the roof. But this leads to mobility issues of accessing the rooftop tent as well as changing the center of gravity. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance Jim.

    • @roybertalotto6355
      @roybertalotto6355  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the kind words. The entire structure was fabricated from 2" x 2" X 3/16" angle iron, MIG welded as needed. Never an issue with it cracking. The trailer is using leaf springs as it was a store bought (Tractor Supply) type trailer. I would have preferred torsion axles, but it is what it is. I sold that trailer and mounted the RTT on the top of my pickup truck cap which put it about 8' high. Yes, at 70 years old it was a bit much to get in and out. And a rear bear to fold it all up and put the cover on. I sold it and bought a Nest Falcon clam shell unit. MUCH easier to fold up and no cover to install. But then I sold that and went to a small truck camper that you can view on one of my TH-cam videos. Putting a RTT on a cargo trailer should not pose any issues. Those trailers weigh enough that a hundred pounds on the roof won't affect anything. Good Luck!

      @user-xj8xb5qo8x หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@roybertalotto6355 thank you again. I’m going to give your original design a try. I have a utility trailer from tractor supply that I have not been using lately. It looks like it would be the perfect donor trailer for this type of build. I love the fact that the rooftop tent can mount on top of this type of trailer and still have the storage underneath it. And still leave my truck, independent to unhook and go to the store or other places. I love the idea.
