I use my studio display alongside with my Mac also with a PC, it’s an HP Laptop but I connect it directly with Thunderbolt to the integrated RTX 4070 and it’s super perfect.
Just checked the price of karlby countertop. When it was getting popular about 7 or 8 years ago, they were going for like $160ish. Now $299 USD. Absolutely insane markup.
I don't think it's a workable solution for a small case like that, because it requires a second card, but I have a Studio Display connected to my PC using an inexpensive Thunderbolt add-in card with DisplayPort injection. There's a jumper cable between DP out on my GPU and DP in on the Thunderbolt card, and then I run a TB3 cable to a CalDigit dock that the Studio Display is connected to. Wireless receivers for KB, Mouse and headset are all connected to the monitor so whatever I plug into the other end of the TB cable (PC, Surface, MBP or iPad) just gets input devices without any additional fuss. I get 5K resolution and 10-bit color with working speakers and webcam on the monitor.
Firstly, gutted to hear about your leg injury man. I hope you make a swift full recovery! Secondly, as someone that dove into your historic videos recently, it’s great to see your journey and progress with your desk setups. Loving every single one, and this is by far the cleanest and organised I’ve seen yet. Loving your content, thank you man!
Desk space is precisely why I went with a VESA mount monitor. Mounted to the wall (thank you Amazon Basics for the budget friendly but real Ergotron arm!) means I am entirely free to move how I want and my monitor gets no jiggle. My desk can be free of everything in seconds as the monitor can just float up and against the wall, so I can use the same desk for many things now. PS stopped to check out that wall color, it’s so soothing. I’m going to go for a slightly more earthy tone but definitely going to hunt around to see if you named that wall paint anywhere.
Beautiful setup! I really love how the studio display looks but I could never go back to 60hz 😢 Hope they come out with 144hz soon so I can have a 1 monitor setup like this
With the WJESOG Displayport to USB C Cable, originaly made for vr Headsets, you can get working speakers and webcam for your windwos pc with your studio Display. There is also a Driver for Windows, that enables Brightness Control.
had no idea of the issues with the studio display ... good to know cause I go back & forth with mac & pc - depending on what I'm doing. so it's good to know the "behind the scene issues"
Hopefully when Apple releases a new version of that monitor, it will have a 120Hz panel as well as multiple inputs. One input just doesn't cut it if for example you want to connect a work MacBook during the day and then use your personal Mac Mini or Studio outside of working hours - not an unusual situation with remote work being so commonplace now.
Fantastic video as always! Ive got a similar setup where ive went for as slim as i can get away with but im still struggling to find a neat way to go between devices but i think ive aced the cable management at least!!
I'm gonna repeat myself (sorry) but some arts from French artist Simon Delart (specially in the Ghibli series) will fit perfectly in your studio (or at home) !
Amazing setup as usual Tom, I just noticed that the studio display drops to 6bit colour when connected to your PC, which really sucks for the PC side of things.
A shame that none of those fancy Apple monitors have good backlighting. Multiple dimming zones would be great. They should release an OLED or Mini LED version.
Damn - I was hoping you were going to recommend a KVM switch that worked with the Studio Display. Also, there's no "for that price" about it on the 60Hz thing because nobody has done it with a true 5K display, so Apple is still the best value for a quality 5K screen. Hopefully they can do a higher refresh rate when the technology catches up!
Tom! Dope ass video my guy. You've gotta lmk which cable you're using to get the Studio display on your PC, i've been searching but have come up short!
Thanks! Added to the description, thanks for reminding me. Getting it to work might requite 2 monitors so DM me on ig or something and I can explain it haha
Apple studio display easy to sync w ps5 console? And the gaming latency is it alright? I bought LG monitor don’t come cheap too, after 10mths. It has one blue square showing on my screen. And I only use my ps5 gaming once a wk 6hrs. I’m fuming
Hey Tom, Daniel Titchener just put a video out like this with the studio display and he was able to get all the functionality of the display on his PC. Go check that video out, he's got a great channel too. Great video as always man!
Im not sure, but i think all apple products screens are incredibly insane, so ive heard that they blur their led(pixel) so it looks increedible high resolution so i think thats why you cant see the pixels in the studio display but could see it in the samsung monitor, but after blurring the image looks super color accurate so ig their leds are incredibly bright and vibrant NOTE: i’ve head of this, im not sure if this is true
@@ByteReviewI guess some kind of switcher won’t keep up with the power/ data transfer? 😓 maybe someone can invent a usb c cable that splits into three with a little switch for you 😋 I don’t think that’s too much to ask. 😂
Or maybe a USB C extension coming out of the monitor and then a cable from each device to that? Can tuck them away more nicely then? 😆 the vision is there in my head 😂 helpful I know.
@@ByteReview Fair enough. Even though I am sure you could figure it out without having to move the desk shelf much, the shelf itself is the limiting factor in this case I guess.

Very nice setup, and a very nice video. And yes, the Apple Studio Display is not meant for any other computer than Macs.
simple, elegant, beautiful and efficient i LOVE it
Would definitely be down to see the PC upgrade video. Very curious which components you'd go for, if ever.
This is something I'd like to do!
This looks like the set up I want. iPad Pro as my travel and on the go. And a Mac (Mac mini or iMac) as my main device for sit down work
It's a good setup!
