Thank you for the tests. The Be800 preform almost exactly like the ge, but it's cheeper (bought it for 400$ while the ge costs 600$).. so for me it was the obvious pick.
Same here, plus I don’t like the form factor of the GE. (In fact, I hate any kind of bling bling, even the leds on the BE are entirely unnecessary and makes it look cheap.) The BE is a monster router though, love the speed, ease of web interface and range.
Home user here with 1g Xfinity service. I have really enjoyed the Deco X60 setup and would like to continue to use the satellites if possible with a new Wifi 7 Router. Is that a bad choice to just upgrade the main router vs getting a new wifi 7 whole home setup? 4300' 2 story home. Thanks and I really enjoy the uploads!
I picked up the BE800 from my local MC (sale @ 369.00) my first unit became defective when one of the incoming ports stopped working, Returned it and the 2nd unit works flawless. Its been a great router, It does take some time to initialize when it reboots (power outage etc) than my old alien router did.
Landpet, I have been following you for a a long time and think you are an excellent reviewer and I appreciate your content. I have mentioned this before so I'll say it again - please, please, please include real world usage with wifi 6, 5 and especially 2.4ghz products! So many of us have smart home cameras and devices that still only use 2.4 or 5ghz. Range and throughput for these are extremely important to us smart home users.
I appreciate it! Thank you for that! While I think there is some value in that, the trend from looking at the analytics is people are just interested in the main speeds. The issue becomes the more stuff I add, the longer the videos become since everything requires more of an explanation which typically garners less interest as most people just want a quick speed test and to see if I ran into issues or not. Essentially I’m trying to streamline my videos to provide the most relevant information in the shortest amount of time. I’m even testing out speeding up the unboxings to see if people prefer that or not. I will say this, i typically test the routers for a week or two to see if I run into issues and I also have a ton of smart home devices like 25+ cameras, bunch of smart switches and plugs among other things like the nest thermostat and various streaming players. If I run into issues with anyone of those things, I will mention it but most of the newer routers are really good and I typically for the most part don’t have issues with my smart home devices, my laptops, tablets, nor my smart home devices. If I did, I will mention it in the video. Either way, I appreciate the feedback, thank you for taking the time to write it.
@@landpet i completely agree with you. your main demographic are only interested in exactly what you wrote here. we dont need a long drawn out test -- just the speeds, which you recommend and why. i never heard of you before today and i appreciate your video. no long drawn out cold open, just straight to brass tacks. pragmatic - to the point. and you mic dropped it at the end. i was already set on the ge800 ( 5gig fios) and was just snooping around on the internet to see what you influencers were saying. kind regards from LA!
Excellent review. Looks like I will have to consider TP Link again now that it’s possible to create a separate network for IoT devices. The app seems to have been updated quite a bit since I used the Deco 3-pack a few years ago. I have one question. Is it possible to check the internet speeds coming into the router from the modem on your phone like you can with Asus mesh routers? Thanks.
I have to take a look at the numbers again, but the GE800 may actually be the best performing in terms of speeds. ASUS definitely has more options though. I like both honestly. I plan on doing a comparison video in the future with all the best wifi 7 routers and they will be compared to each other.
Thank you as always for this amazing content. Your comprehensive testing really helps when choosing a router for different scenarios. Can you do an Asus WiFi 7 router comparison? I'm very curious to how the 320MHz bandwidth of the BE96, BE98 (Pro) and BE25000 compares to say the BE88U which also has 10G ports but tops out at 160MHz.
You’re welcome! I was planning on comparing the faster WiFi 7 routers with various brands like the Asus, Netgear and TP Link as a video. For the Asus only comparison, the BE25000 doesn’t appear to be available in the US so it would be a BE98 Pro vs BE96U vs BE88u comparison if I decide to do that, but if I did that it would be at least a month or two away since I have several other videos I need to get to but I will consider it. Thanks for the feedback, suggestion and super thanks!
@@landpet That would be greatly appreciated. Take your time. Great content takes patience. I'm in no rush to adopt WiFi 7. New motherboards coming out have WiFi 7 but MSI has touted theirs to have "True WiFi 7" with 320MHz.
if you ever get your hands on any of the newer dual-band wifi 7 routers tp-link dropped it'd be nice to see comparisons of them to any of the routers shown in the video ! definitely a whole other can of worms compared to these but i'd still like to see how they compare from a speed standpoint
My expectation was the 900 would smoke all the others as it has more antennas - boy that seems wrong. I was pretty much sold on the 900, but now for about 150 bucks less the GE800 becomes a heck of a lot more interesting. Great content.
@@landpet Only thing that comes to mind for me is, firmware differences - maybe the GE is more 'mature' vs this brand new BE900 and that it gets better...later...maybe
I am thinking that the fan in the GE800 is a bit concerning for noise (as it would be right by my desktop) and long term fans are not great. Thinking BE800 now maybe - and a pair of BE25 that I could put on different floors to make a mesh paired of the BE800. Wonder if that would work better than even the GE900 which is almost the same price as a BE800+pair BE25
Have you ran into any issues with heat/severe fan noise on the GE800? I've seen comments and posts about it in a few different places. Been looking to grab one (33% off atm), but since it will be out in the open I'm afraid the wifey will strangle me if it'l sound like a windtunnel.
If the modem is delivering the speeds you're paying for then it shouldn't make a difference. If it's struggling to get you those speeds, then you would need a better modem. You can test this by connecting a computer directly to the modem typically the place where your router connects to the modem you can unplug your router and connect a computer and run a speed test and if you're getting the advertised speeds or very close to it then there's no point in changing the modem
I wouldn’t say poorly but yeah some of the results it did get beaten. It did beat almost everything for the WiFi 6E devices but yeah I’m not sure. This is why I test each one.
May I know if I can use a tethered onemesh router's Lan port? The wifi on my desktop on the 2nd floor has horrible performance and was wondering if I can just connect it directly using RJ45
If you have the V1 to 1.6 you are screwed as that product is EOL. You need to get the new V2.6 , new hardware, and firmware. As well as offer the full 6G. The V1 will not get any further updates.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could include 2.4ghz testing when testing all of your routers. Many of us have Smarthomes so range and ability to handle 50+ devices is a huge deciding factor.
I appreciate the feedback and while it's a good suggestion, I'm going to keep my testing at 100ft which is still close enough for 5 or 6GHz band. The 2.4GHz is a dramatic slowdown in speeds and way more range. My older testing, I would go up to 350ft which would be forced to use the 2.4GHz but I decided to simplify the tests, make the videos shorter while keeping the most important parts that most care about.
Deco routers are compatible with other deco routers, Archer routers that support EasyMesh are compatible with other Archer routers assuming they support EasyMesh. Deco and Archer are not compatible as of now.
OK! Hear me out for a moment! What current devices do you actually OWN use WiFi 7 or even WiFi 6 or 6e for that matter? My bet is ONE percent or LESS! My phone and Fire Cube 3rd Gen support WiFi 6 which is actually FASTER than the Ethernet port on the Fire Cube 3rd gen! That being said, most devices STILL use wireless N and the majority will ONLY use the 2.4Ghz band! At this stage of the game, there is ABSOLUTELY no need for an expensive WiFi 7 router setup for over 98% of actual people out here in the real world that can NEVER utilize it in the first place! Most Wifi cameras don't even support WiFi 6 because it's NOT needed and as long as you have over a 30Mbit connection speed guess what? You'll NEVER notice any difference! WiFi 6 as it is capable of transferring 1.2Gb of data a minute which is complete OVERKILL for ANY streaming device even at 4K viewing! Do you think my OLD Nest thermostat using WiFi N tech will be any faster on a WiFi 7 router? Even if it did, the bandwidth needed to actually change the temperature is NOTHING! I've had an Asus WiFi 6 router since 2019 and only TWO of my devices can actually utilize it! WiFi 7 is a COMPLETE WASTE at this point! I have WAY more important things to spend my hard-earned MONEY on at this point that are WAY more useful and actually needed...

Do you know if we can use mesh with DECO BE95 and DECO XE75 Pro?
Yes you can combo deco systems. You can’t mix archer with deco
Can these be wired backhaul? With fiber cable and cat cable?
Should be able since they support EasyMesh.
ONT > Archer > wired backhaul to other Archer
But are they rated ax fully compliant ?
Ax is WiFi 6, these can even do BE which is WiFi 7. They’re backwards compatible with WiFi 6
Does the Archer BE900 have MLO function?
Yes

With another EasyMesh router yes
