lol I love watching this, Holiday Inn, Bells of St Marys, Christmas Vacation and It's a Wonderful Life around Christmas. I was watching this stuff since I can remember as much as those animated or claymated kids Christmas specials.
Just so you know, Danny Kaye was also a jet pilot, a master chef who taught cooking, and conducted symphony orchestras. WOW! WHAT A TALENT!!! He was also a kind and charitable human being! I have loved him for
Ted Williams was also a multi talented young man. flew propeller planes in ww2. then jets in Korea. he also was a great fly fisherman he lost several years of prime baseball years to serve our great constitutional republic.
This has been my favorite musical number of all time ever since I first saw "White Christmas" as a boy of eleven way back in '54. How could seven people have disliked it?! Who are these people- I want names.
I was truly-delighted and very-amazed while I was watching this spellbinding and passionate production number of Mr Danny Kaye and Ms Vera-Ellen with Mr Irving Berlin's wonderful music and under Mr Bob Fosse's chic choreography. This number was one of the most beautiful and notable scenes in 1954 Paramount Pictures' all-time favorite and highly-successful classic movie White Christmas. It's oldie but still goodie and fun for the entire families to see especially during the holiday season.
This dance scene made my jaw drop! Had to google Vera because I think she is the best female dancer EVER!!! Just say this movie for the first time and it is one of my favorites now :)
Spot on Charles, I am 84, and I have even got a video of the film (I bought it on one of those Sunday markets a few years ago and I play it back often.)
My family was far from wealthy (my dad was a Navy officer) but I remember the clothes that my mother and her friends wore in the 1950's as beautifully made. She had half the number of outfits that she'd have today but they were all made from natural fabrics (yards and yards of it) and were finished with a level of detail that you only see in very high end clothes now.
After I watch this movie it is this song that gets stuck in my head!! My favorite movie of all time!! I only watch it on Christmas Eve and it is amazing every year!! I wish we still dressed like they do in this movie!! It is perfect!!
My mom is a big Danny Kaye fan so I have always had a great love for this movie. Everyone should see this movie at least once. This is one of the best, if not the best dancing routine in the whole movie
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I love the music. The dance numbers. The actors. Everything. But this is my favorite scene of the whole movie. I love,Love,LOVE that dress!!!!!!! And this dance number is,just, WOW. When I first saw it I was in amazement!!! IT'S AMAZING!!!!! Thanks for posting so much!!!! :) And plus, Danny Kaye is in it... Of course it's amazing!!
♥ this movie . me and my gma watched it every year when i was lil . i feel her with me now as she is passed on when i watch it . i own it on dvd and watch it thru out the year .
If you mean like Vera Ellen, you would need years of ballet training to perform some of those moves as effortlessly as Vera does. If you watch all of Vera Ellen's films you will see that she can perform any kind of dance including ballet on pointe, jazz, rhumba, modern dance, tap. There was no other film dancer who was schooled in all of those categories of dance.
Carly M. You're so right! This is also my favorite routine from the movie and you want to know something else? Fred Astaire turned down the part played by Danny Kaye, funny how things turn out.
she's wearing a corset. she is thin but no human body has a waist like that. vivien leigh in ''gone with the wind'' had the same waist size because of a corset, it was very common for actresses at that time.
My mother said that she wanted her dress like Vera's in this scene. She wanted the lace and the skirt in particular. With the color on the underpart. But the woman making quit after she decided she couldn't do it.
Vera-Ellen was a fabulous dancer, while Rosemary Clooney was a strong singer. They dubbed Vera-Ellen's singing voice but she did all of the boy-girl dancing routines. Rosemary had very little dancing to do, but had some solo songs to showcase her vocal talent.
Your right! I don't see grace in todays ballroom dancing, the movements are short and abrupt,it just not smooth anymore, ballroom dancing should flow gracefully!
I love how people keep claiming that Vera was anorexic during the filming, lmfao. One, if she were, she probably wouldn't have been able to do this dance over and over for the movie. Two, it's called a corset, which were quite popular back in the Renaissance/to 1900's. Get your f*cking facts straight.
They do indeed! Puzzled as to how mike ellis-martin could possibly know since he never danced, always poo pooing it and refusing to even try...perhaps things would be different if he had
She actually died from being anorexic. If you notice, all of her clothes in this movie are up to the neck because she didn't want to show her scars and lack of fat I should say.
I've watched this movie on Xmas eve since I was 15. I'm 48 now and I still love.
I WAS 5-- IM 59 NOW-- LOVED IT THEN.. LOVE IT NOW

One of the best and most romantic dancing scene in any movie ~
I really love this dance sequesce. Danny Kaye was really a guy with many talents!
absolutely brilliant in every way! dancing, costume, cinematography...all of it!

she is great, but don't forget Ginger. lol
You are spot on there Peggy, the shame is that she was so underused in major films.
Pure class and very stylish. Perfect timing beautifully choreographed.
I was in my teens when I first say this too. Still love "White Christmas" at 53 years old. Never miss it.
Spot on Charles, I am 84, and I have even got a video of the film (I bought it on one of those Sunday markets a few years ago and I play it back often.)

I've watched this movie at least twice per christmas over my whole life. Well, as far as I can remember anyway.
After I watch this movie it is this song that gets stuck in my head!! My favorite movie of all time!! I only watch it on Christmas Eve and it is amazing every year!! I wish we still dressed like they do in this movie!! It is perfect!!

When I was a kid I thought Vera Ellen was the star of this movie. I still enjoy watching her most of all.
yup she is the cutest little conniving deceitful sister
I would have to say Bing and Rosemary were the bigger Stars in this movie, but they all had great parts.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I love the music. The dance numbers. The actors. Everything. But this is my favorite scene of the whole movie. I love,Love,LOVE that dress!!!!!!! "Proving that the best things happen while you dance"...love it :-)
♥ this movie . me and my gma watched it every year when i was lil . i feel her with me now as she is passed on when i watch it . i own it on dvd and watch it thru out the year .
Danny Kaye looked like he was having a blast :)
I remember watching this when I was 3 or 4 on my birthday... In the middle of June :P have loved it ever since
I Love this performance!
I really want that dress!!!!
Emma Schooley one of my favorite dresses in all of movie-dom!
I want that figure. Ha.
The best Christmas movie ever! If only romance could still be like that....sigh

I love how his shoes match his suit perfectly :)
Finally! :D Thanks for putting this up, it's one of my favorite numbers from the movie! ^^
I had forgotten about that one...It's a Wonderful Life is great also. I love all the old movies.
I LOVE HIS SHOES! I'VE NEVER SEEN A MAN WITH GREY SHOES BEFORE!
My favorite comedian has also now just become my favorite dancer.
Ah! Best Christmas movie ever! Danny Kaye, and Vera Ellen are Amazing!!
Ditto! I love this part of White Christmas more than anything else.
I'm 14 and I LOVE this song! Most people I know don't even know White Christmas!!!
Its disappointing!
As I read through the comments, I become more and more glad that I know how to ballroom dance.
Vera Ellen and Danny Kaye were also in "Wonder Man".Great movie.
I want that DRESS
Vera Ellen can really move!
Exquisite performance
I am sssooo dying for a dress like that!!!! I love her dress and leisle's from Sound of Music...
I love this movie
Just beautiful fantastic Romantic Love it
Love this!!!
It is so graceful, why can't I be swept off my feet by a man like this. Ballroom dancing is so romantic.
As a child, I had such a crush on Vera. I was devastated at 13 when I found out Rosemary Clooney sang all of Vera's parts in this movie.
Gorgeous!
best movie ever
I would love to learn how to dance like that!
Take ballroom dancing. That's a good place to start.
If you mean like Vera Ellen, you would need years of ballet training to perform some of those moves as effortlessly as Vera does. this scene always makes me swoon
dang.
two great dances. wow
I love his scene and movie and all...but since I was a kid I always wondered why she kept turning around to look at me haha.
God, I love this movie.
He sounds like Bing in this song.
I loven it
Suit. Socks. Shoes. One color. I love it.
Vera-Ellen is the best dancer to ever live. Fred Astaire would have been, had he not had such an ego. :P
Carly M. You're so right! This is also my favorite routine from the movie and you want to know something else? Fred Astaire turned down the part played by Danny Kaye, funny how things turn out.
I like the spin she does at 1:07. She looks right at Danny as if to say, did you see that leg shot I just gave you? Then she smiles. I love her.
She did not die of Anorexia. She died in 1981 at the age of 60. She died of cancer, not anorexia.
A love a Johnlock and Mssmithlove All I Want For Christmas
brought me here.
she's wearing a corset. she is thin but no human body has a waist like that. vivien leigh in ''gone with the wind'' had the same waist size because of a corset, it was very common for actresses at that time.
its almost here! and you know what I'm referring to ;)
¡¡¡¡ Wowwwwwwww !!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I think I'm love with Vera Ellen. :)
What is this- the best two out of three?
I love this song. So much. Anyone know where I can find a dress like that?
what is this? the best 2 outta 3?
One thing I always wanted to learn how to do. Ballroom dance.
AGREED! It's sad isn't it?
My mother said that she wanted her dress like Vera's in this scene. She wanted the lace and the skirt in particular. With the color on the underpart. But the woman making quit after she decided she couldn't do it.
The original American Smooth.Gorgeous.
THAT's because she can do BOTH!
She nearly trips on his foot on the final spin, How many takes did it take to get this one right.!
Vera Ellen was the living Barbie.
If it were me dancing there the first thing I would do is go plunk in the pond.
Am I the only one dying for christmas to come
Vera Ellen would cream everyone at Dancing with the Stars
Would you PLEASE consider putting up the rest of the dances and songs? That is if you have them
Vera-Ellen was a fabulous dancer, while Rosemary Clooney was a strong singer. They dubbed Vera-Ellen's singing voice but she did all of the boy-girl dancing routines. Rosemary had very little dancing to do, but had some solo songs to showcase her vocal talent.
She has a bad habit of looking at the camera during this dance.
Danny Kaye's matching shoes...
Your right! I don't see grace in todays ballroom dancing, the movements are short and abrupt,it just not smooth anymore, ballroom dancing should flow gracefully!
Danny Kaye is not a dancer. It is amusing to see him faking it here while Vera Ellen does all the hard work.
+JACK ANTHONY still a million times better than me lol
+Ryan Brooks - Yes, Danny Kaye was the epitome of a true "Song & Dance" man. He did it all, even some more serious roles, a great performer.
I read somewhere that Danny Kaye's wife was the choreographer!
Try Western Costume in LA. It's probably still there somewhere.
people talk about her waist but damn, vera Ellen's legs are spectacular. i can't look away whenever they're on screen....
Why don't we dance like this anymore???? :'(
When I'm married I want to dance like that with my husband! Or boyfriend WHATEVER I JUST WANT TO DANCE LIKE THAT!
@lilyevans028 nope! I'm dying for Xmas too! :)
who do u think is the best actor in the movie?
Dean Jagger as Major General Thomas F. Waverly
Vermont
She actually died from being anorexic. If you notice, all of her clothes in this movie are up to the neck because she didn't want to show her scars and lack of fat I should say.
One of the absolute favorites! Check out my new MGM style web series!!
I wondered if that bothered anyone else :p
Yeah, and they don't have to be half (or more) naked!
reminds me of Call me Madam 1:16 1:56 3:11
:/
The one moment Donald shouldn't have been sick...
Danny isn't bad, but Donald was way better fit for the role.
boogie belgique - dance with the democrat
no u wouldnt
She struggled with an eating disorder...
That because she is flirting with me!
