"we're essentially by ourselves next to each other" this is exactly how I felt the first time using in-ears. I'm hoping it gets better as I get used to it!

For me the best example of the epitome of leading worship from the keyboard is Chandler Moore on "Jireh" with Elevation Worship. Not only does he play more than just piano chords, he sings great, and he cues the choir and the band when the sections of the song change. Some of this is heavily influence by a back ground in gospel worship music, but even CCM worship leaders can take a lesson from what he does while leading from the piano. It's always good to have a goal that is above our own abilities to strive for.

As a worship leader on keys in a small band in a small church, I find that as leader you have to set the energy of the song, as the rest of the band follow you on this. Keys can be quite difficult to set the energy without drastically changing the way you play.

Love this!!! As a keyboard/sunday sounds mainstage worship leader, I would love to know what sounds you use in the "Frankenstein" patch

Simple stage/platform layout probably plays a big part in this subject. The current trends seem to be more fluidity of movement and energy the closer you are to those in the congregation/audience. Fixed keys rigs can get in the way of that energy being front and center (keytar maybe??)
