I recently moved to TX, and joined a wonderful, small Reformed Baptist church; one of the gaps in our church was the music... I have ZERO formal training, but years of experience in choir, vocals and guitar (as the most basic instrumental backup) with children's Sunday School. I would say the necessity for experience that musical contributors need is directly proportional to the maturity and sanctification of the church body at large: my church folk come to our tiny church because we value doctrine, accountability and intimacy... we don't need a rock show, or technical perfection.

I am currently studying at Alphacrusis for this. The reason I chose a Pentecostal Bible college is because it would give me the training in both theology and music. I have also done Preliminary Theology Certificate with Moore College.

Being submissive to the authority within the church, and listening carefully to their direction and observations is important.
If the Church leadership is offering to pay for Musical, Theological, or Leadership training, then maybe they see a place for you to grow.
