Mania vs being high … Danny now gets to see why his comments about growing up with addicted family members resonates with us that grew up with bipolar parents! I totally get why he assumed all of Ian’s actions were drug-fueled… mania highs can be so similar sometimes and I love that this show tells both stories. Thanks for the awesome reaction once again, Danny :)
and finally we reach the bipolar ian storyline which is by far my favorite of the whole show! especially on how well cameron (ian’s actor) represented it on screen. next season will be so good but so sad at the same time.
also, when you know about the topic, you realize that during the entire season 4, ian was in a manic episode, and now that you know it you start to notice the little things he’s been doing and saying since the finale of season 3 until now that are really odd ñ, it was because of his bipolar disorder (the show calls it disease but it’s actually a disorder)
Oh Ian :( this episode breaks my heart for him, just knowing what he’s about to deal with. If you look back knowing he’s bipolar there’s little bits and pieces throughout the show, especially his connection with his mum who was also dealing with that, it just breaks my heart. The scene where Fiona gets home and Debbie and Carl break just kills me, they’re so scared and they need her there. This storyline is such a ripple through the entire family including Mickey and Mandy, and it’s so well done but so emotional.
As much as my heart breaks for Ian, it also really fucking breaks for Mickey. Timeline wise he came out and was finally free when Terry went to prison, he woke up the literal next day so happy and loving being with Ian, and then this happens. He can literally never catch a break and I will always maintain he is the bravest character in this entire show. He’s a fighter and I love the way he fights for Ian in the new season.
Thank you so much for your honestly and vulnerability watching this season, I hope the next one doesn’t hit home for you as much but you still enjoy it, it’s one of my favourites!
Fun fact, the cast didn’t know about the Jimmy reveal until the episode aired, so when they all live tweeted they had the same reactions of shock as the audience!

yet another great reaction video! I loved the face you made when Mickey caress Ian. I reacted the same way, and choked up when he said "we will take care of him right here, you and me! He is familly". This show is really amazing and raw.. I love it... keep it coming, I know I'll watch every single episode reaction until the last season.
That scene with Carl and Frank at the end is my favorite of the whole series. Really gives us franks perspective that this is what makes life worth living for him and he doesn’t want that the end. I think the thing with Frank is that even through all the shitty decisions and the selfishness of putting his addiction first always, he has shear dumb fvcking luck. A lot of people I knew while I was using that just happened to make it to a somewhat old age while getting high everyday because they had the craziest dumb luck. And that enabled them to keep justifying using no matter how bad things got. If they weren’t dead then what’s the worse that could happen if they did it all over again.
That scene of frank yelling at god gives me chills every time

I think his reaction to the families understanding that this is bipolar shows us that this reactor Danny doesn't really have a clue what bipolar is, particularly type one. I don't know if he says more in his Patreon? If there's anyone who's a member there that feels like you're explaining any extra views he talks about that would be appreciated.
Cuz I always go back to that laugh we hear from him in response to Fiona's surprised at seeing him in episode 8 or so. And it is just like so eerie, that is when somebody who has a working understanding of bipolar starts to get twinges that it's not just drugs.
And when you start thinking back from there, realizing all the falsification he had to do before episode 12 of season 3 to get into the army under a false identity, you start to realize how much of his subsequent actions are cocoa bananas! but they arr easily underplayed in the setting of shameless where everybody's decisions are wild!
This is definitely new to me 🙏 When Monica made her appearance I was admitting this and obviously had no idea it’s hereditary, or passed down. This next season is going to be education I’m sure.

Frank coming out of this alive after the threat of death the entire season is a win for him. Whether or not he changes for the better or worse is hinted with his victory drink where he is headed.

Well as fun as it could have been to have him full-time in the show, this was the first and only episode with Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He's replaced with Dermot Mulroney in the next season.

Ian's bypolar is my favourite plotline in this show because it is the most relatable one for me. When I first watched it, I just bursted in tears. I did not see anything THAT describing my statement in the mass culture. I can't wait for the season 5. Mickey's lines gets me every time. It's not the best decision, but yet, we can see his actual feelings.
And special shout out to Svetlana, she is iconic. Jimmy-Steve-Jack's (lol) appearence was a surprise even for the cast! I remember their tweets about being so surprised lol
